There are not many hotels in this town but we needed a place to stay in Escanaba for two nights a week apart. The reviews for this place are just so-so but our experience was just fine especially for the price. Our rooms were decent with a nice sitting area - I guess that is the suites part of the name. The room had a bigger sized refrigerator with a freezer compartment which was welcomed and the only one with a freezer in the five hotels we stayed at during this road trip. The only gripe was the room on our second stay had a water saving faucet that was pretty worthless - funny the first room was different. The breakfast was standard chain hotel fare... perhaps a bit more spartan. Overall it was a good experience. read more

We were just here last weekend and our room, first floor by the pool, was disgusting! The carpet was wet and the room smelled gross! To make our experience even worst, the shower drainage did not work. Water was up to ankles the whole time while showering. As for breakfast, a place that offers free breakfast, sure wasn't prepared for all of their guests. There was a 15-20 minutes wait to refill the trays. This was our second time here at this place but will never return again. It was so disappointing. I also hope the rooms get cleaned up! read more

Stayed one night while passing through the area. The beds are like sleeping on a literal brick, however the pillows are comfortable. The room was clean BUT our room, bathroom, hallway, and elevator had a VERY offensive musty/wet fish like odor. (The only area of the hotel that didn't smell bad was the lobby and pool area.) This horrible smell kept us up (on and off) through the night and nauseated us first thing in the morning. Turning on the air conditioning in the room helped a tad but not enough to make me stay here again. For $200 a night I would expect that this shouldn't be an issue. We checked out at 7am because of the smell. One positive: The front counter employee at check in was very friendly and informative. read more

If I could give lesz than 1 star, I would. This place looks nice, but the customer service is horrible. The desk staff were more interested in sitting in the attached tanning salon than at the front desk. Shortly after I entered my room, I heard the toilet running non-stop. I tried to flush it, but it could not be flushed. I looked in the tank, and the chain was off the float. I called the front desk, but they could not tell me when it would be fixed. I was exhausted and just wanted to go to sleep, but the toilet kept running. I stop at the desk. Again, they didn't know when it would be fixed. I asked for a different room, but was told they were full. Finally, after waiting about 2 hours for maintenance, I could not stand the noise, and checked out. They offered no discount, and charged me for the full night. They got their money, that's all they cared about. No concern for customer service. read more

Overall the cleanliness and comfort of the hotel was good. However there was a major flaw. The lack of knowledge on the free shuttles to the airport, which they advertise, had caused me to miss my flight. Not only did it cost us more money for a new flight the next day, there was also no accountability or responsibility for their lack of knowledge, which still cost us an additional night stay, stress, and anxiety. If you make a mistake that is okay but the audacity to not own up to it left me flabbergasted. I will never be coming to this hotel again. p.s. the chlorine in the in door pool was so strong i couldn't breathe. do better. read more

Very nice hotel. The "suites" are quite small, but the place was very clean and the front desk staff were pleasant. The breakfast was much better than many of these types of hotels. Good selection and the hostess kept everything well stocked and spotless. I had a room with a King-sized bed and it was comfortable. There is no closet, just an armoire to hang up your shirts and the dresser is very small. We stayed here for 3 nights, so I like to put all of my clothes away. I was able to do this, but had to remove pillows and blankets from the dresser to make room. I would highly recommend this hotel despite these fairly insignificant issues. read more

The hotel options in Escanaba are definitely limited, but the Comfort Suites was a solid 3.5 so I'll round up to 4 stars. The government rate is competitive, hotel is clean and staff is friendly. It definitely appears to be one of the new hotels in the area, but once inside, the rooms are very dated with older carpet and furniture. The beds are fairly comfortable and rooms include a decent sized refrigerator, microwave and small flat screen TV. There is a small workout room and a separate pool area. Breakfast is included - standard fare with eggs, bacon, waffles, fruit, yogurt, etc. Conveniently located just a few minutes from downtown. read more

This comfort inn and suites had no business being a nice as it was. Clearly had been renovated recently and they did a great job. Bed was comfortable, TV was big and acted like a normal TV (if you frequent hotels you know what I'm talking about.) The staff was friendly and great - and really just an all around great experience. I have stayed here for years It is the newest in Escanaba but there are some bothersome inclusions that have reared their ugly heads over time. The hotel offers couches in an adjoining area with microwaves and refrigerators in the rooms. They have a companion tanning business offering the local population and guests tanning on one end. When you walk in the main door to the front desk you find there is a doorway between the hotels front desk and the tanning business desk. Also note there is a nice swim pool on the other end. It seems the hotel will day rent rooms to families and groups to use the pool. You do not want to be on that end of the first or second level. The WiFi on this particular visit was very poor. Someone or something or heavy use ate up the bandwidth. Connecting took minutes and often disconnected or required multiple attempts to get to web pages due to timeouts. Checking the options for hotel WiFi I found the reason. Where else is there a hotel that offers only one open WiFi connection for hotel guests? This needs improvement. This is a nice hotel and I have stayed here repeatedly. read more

I am a Choice Hotel member and decided on this hotel based on proximity to an event. We have stayed at another Choice Hotel in the area in the past, but thought we'd try this one. Prices being the same for both, we thought this one might be more 'upscale' based on the name. The hotel is clean as far as we can see. But the first thing I noticed is the carpet in the hallway is wrinkled and past due for replacement. The here was a worn spot in the carpet in the room. The furniture in the room is shabby and by that, I mean it looks like someone took sandpaper to the finish. The clamshell sink is vintage (not in a good way) and the toilet seat is so worn you can see the black underneath the white finish. Just the things you see that make you think "yikes". I paid way more but would never pay more than $70 a night for this. No amount of free cold cereal in the morning would make up the difference. Frankly, I have stayed at better Econo Lodges. read more

We are at the Comfort Inn & Suites in Escanaba, MI which does not have power or front desk staff able to assist us. There is a friendly girl working who is brand new, but does not know what to do. She's been trying to reach the manager for 2 hours, but he is not answering his phone. I have been on hold with the 888-770-6800 number for over an hour now and it was disconnected. The brand new girl at the front desk directed us to the owner, Singh Devinder, but in talking to him, he denied being the owner and was unwilling to help. Now we find out he is the owner and was just standing back watching the crowd gathering in the lobby doing nothing to help the new girl away the front. read more

Have stayed here several times while visiting family in Escanaba. The place is comfortable and clean. The beds have nice soft cozy linens and we always sleep well when we are here. The breakfast is the usual fare that you would expect. The pool isn't huge, but has a slide, basketball area, squirting fountains, and hot tub and the kids always have a good time. My only complaints are with the pool. There is soooo much chlorine in the pool. I cough as soon as we enter the pool area and my daughters eyes are bloodshot and irritated by the time we are through. We've stayed at other Comfort Inns and never had had a problem with the chlorine. Also, the pool area is extremely loud. If there are more than a handful of kids in there, the sound bounces around and you can't hear anything. We stayed there with my brother's family and hoped to use the time the kids were playing in the pool to talk and catch up on things. It was so loud we couldn't hear each other talk without screaming. We've stayed there when a group of kids sports teams were spending the night and the sound in there was deafening. Honestly, I might bring ear plugs next time we stay there. read more

Only thing going for this dump is location... OMG $250 per night with tax? I've stayed in cleaner, better maintained hotels under $100. Too bad they won't let me add pics in app but I'll start with check-in. Front desk staff less than happy to see us. They were full so maybe long nite but smile at least lady, you're taking my cash. The room: no two furniture pieces matched the other. Both windows fogged between the glass so no view to remark on. I always do bed bug check immediately and although it turned up no bugs the amount of dirt and hair that had collected on the dust ruffle where mattress meets headboard literally made me gag. (Side note, left it pulled out for cleaning staff that had the nerve to leave tip envelope so they can't pissibly miss it for another three years). Aside from (literally) the ugliest bathroom counter I've seen in my life, the sink wouldn't drain after washing my face for the night. I pulled out the stopper and found out why - black sludge enveloped the part that goes down into the drain. Pukeworthy. I left that puppy laying out on the counter so MAYBE housekeeping would clean it or st least alert Maintenance. Lookin our for the next sucker. In the am, I took a shower and was dismayed that the vent fan which made plenty of noise did absolutely no venting of the humidity which got so bad that I had to kneel in front of the hall mirror to blow dry my hair. Forget styling after drying in this humidity -stuck with bad hair all day. Heating / Cooling was too hot or too cold regardless of what we tried and did nothing to alleviate humidity issue either. Oh, privacy? Not your place. If you like a half inch gap under your door so you can hear everything that happens in the long hallway, maybe it is. Personally, I prefer anyone in the hall not hear everything said/done within my room. Just sayin'. Door gap aside, no insulation in the walls either. I know this because a family with what sounded like 50 kids moved in next door and started playing soccer. Or built a swing set. God knows what but it was crazy loud and there was whole lot of hard objects bagging against our wall. I have stayed in hundreds of hotel rooms over the years with work and personal travel. Even if it were $250 on the company's dime, I would be sharing this experience. Even the Casino down the road charges less with much nicer rooms. We visit Escanaba about 5-6 times yearly, this is off my list of options for good. read more

While I have stayed at this hotel before, and it is nice, I will not be staying again. I made a mistake. I booked this hotel online, but didn't read the confirmation email. As a result, I was charged $100 by the hotel. As a frequent business traveler, this has happened before, and MANY hotels work to resolve this in a professional manner. This however, was not the case here. Tina, a supervisor at the hotel was rather abrasive in her treatment of the problem, and told me to come in on Sunday (the day I booked) where Kathy (the manager) MIGHT choose to refund the money. I asked to speak to the corporate call center instead, to work out the issue before I arrived. I'm glad I did. Tina booked me in for the wrong dates again, of which I would have been charged again. It doesn't get much better from here. The call center required a degree of motivating to even want to work toward a resolution, of which we did not come to one. Kathy, the manager called me back, informed that whatever I thought wasn't true, and that it was my mistake. No matter what, she was charging me. Yes, I am upset that they have taken this money from me. Regardless of that, I am extremely disappointed in the way that I was treated and spoken to. Tina and Kathy hid behind corporate and local policies, and made several inferences that they are just too busy to care about one customer. I didn't matter. read more

Needs Improvement We had a king suite for one night; we would not have been happy to stay a second night. We were greeted wonderfully by the front desk staff (Ms. Personality), but things went downhill from there. The room was mostly fine, but had some design flaws. There was NO nightlight of any kind in the bathroom; getting from the bed at night was challenging. Comfort Suites has a "green" policy of changing towels every third day - which I admire for keeping down the cost of laundry and reducing water use. However, there are NO towel racks in the bathroom, or anywhere else. As we checked out, the second desk clerk said that as a franchisee, they had to follow company policy and put a hook on the back of the bathroom door. This is completely inadequate for two bath towels, two washcloths, a hand towel, and bathmat. Further, the hotel is close to a very active 4-lane highway, and it was noisy. Finally, it was clear to us that the desk clerk (about 10 am, Friday Oct 11) was not interested in apologizing or taking our concerns seriously. A little compassion goes a long way toward keeping customers coming back. We won't be back. read more

I just wanted to put in a plug for this hotel after visiting Escanaba for a couple of winter days on business. I had a great stay at this nice property. The staff were all friendly, professional and helpful. I don't know if this place was just refurbished or has been really well-kept, but every space I saw was nicely appointed and spotlessly clean. All the amenities you would need as a business traveler or vacation guest. The pool area is pretty amazing; it's a mini water park that kids would really enjoy. Plenty of parking. Safe, quiet location. Close to shopping and dining. Not quite walking distance to the waterfront or downtown Escanaba, but then you're away from the crowds and hassles as well, if you come during the peak season. read more

We stayed at the Comfort Suites in Escanaba MI for a week in July 2009. We had a very pleasant stay. The front desk was excellent and very accomodating. The maids were very good and did not want to take tips which we forced them too. The pool area is by far the best in the Escanaba motels. The kids enjoyed it thoroughly. I cannot say anything bad about this particular motel. We will stay here next time we visit. read more

Nice place. Had comfy beds, good TV stations, clean, nice staff, etc. Only problem we had was the pool. The hot tub bubbles didn't seem to want to turn on, and if they did, only 3 out of the 6 jets worked. We mentioned it to the front desk who seemed unsure of why it wasn't working but said they'd send somebody down. We noticed that when the geyser timed out that the bubbles would seem to work a little more, but the kids wanted the geyser on constantly so we had it always turned on. Nobody ever came and fixed the hot tub when we were there so not entirely sure if it ever got taken care of. Other than that, very nice place and we would stay here again. read more

Watch out for the Comfort Suites in Escanaba, MI. That place is ran by a horrible human being! My husband and I booked what was supposed to be a relaxing/romantic weekend at this hotel last night. We booked a few weeks ago and I told the person at the desk what we were looking for. She booked me and neglected to tell me that there were 3 boys hockey teams staying at the hotel this weekend as well. I totally understand kids being kids, but you would think that if the staff knew this they would have told me something especially because my husband and I stay here about 3 times a year. We were surrounded by 8 year olds. At one point there were 36 kids in the pool area. They were screaming, slamming doors and we couldn't get in the elevator because all of the kids would ride it up and down like an amusement ride. Again, I understand kids being kids and I hope they had fun sincerely but if I told the front desk we wanted a relaxing weekend when we booked, it's common sense to maybe, suggest the following weekend??? So we went to dinner thinking maybe the team would quiet down and when we came back it got worse. We packed our things and went to the front desk to ask to cancel our stay since we couldn't use the pool and we weren't going to get any sleep. The girl at the front desk called her "manager" Jennifer Bourque who told her that she wouldn't refund us or give use a future night stay. I said "we stayed 3 hours and 2 of those were dinner and packing up our things!" She replied "I know I'm sorry my manager does this frequently she knows if you dispute it with your card company we will get the money anyway" then i said I would call corporate and she told me this Jennifer Bourque is the owner and I won't get anywhere. Evidently this is a frequent thing to not give guests comp for anything. I checked my card and they charged me three times for the hotel!!! So on top of being a crappy business woman, she's a thief! Even though we left!! Jennifer is a horrible crooked customer service person and now I will probably have to take this to small claims to get my money back. Book down the street and save yourself the headache or at least don't patronize this terrible woman. read more

Though I cancelled my reservation properly, within the guidelines, quoted the guidelines to corporate was charged the full rate to my company. As a frequent business traveler, I've never been treated so rudely and unprofessionally. If I treated my clients like this hotel treats potential guests, I would not have a job. People who answer the phone direct you to a woman, Kathy, who makes all the policies and doesn't follow her own corporate protocols. When you ask who is the General Manager, NO ONE will give you a name. Instead of owning their policy and following it, Kathy blames the client for all the problems and in a rude, yelling voice. Not only will I not ever stay at this hotel, my travel agency knows to NEVER book me in a Comfort Suites no matter what. Corporate doesn't care about my business nor does this hotel. There's many choices in Escanaba, do NOT choose this hotel. read more

The Hotel was not very clean in public areas. Our room was infested with mosquitoes and the breakfast room had dead mosquitoes smeared on the walls. When I asked to be moved, the person behind the desk acknowledged that the mosquitoes have been a problem in that room but they sold it to us anyway with out taking care of the problem. When I asked for a discount on a night where we got no sleep, the worker said we needed to talk to the manager. The manager never seemed to be working our whole stay and when I called later to talk to her she still wasn't in. I left my name and number for her to call me and she has yet to get back to me weeks later. These people do not know how to run a business. read more
