I got my 20 year old JCPenney sewing machine tuned up there. For about $54 they did a great job. It runs more smoothly and quietly than it has for many years. They also smoothed out a burr I had on my needle plate without my requesting it. I received an itemized receipt that showed everything that was done.
I was told it would only take 3 days, and I dropped it off on a Tuesday afternoon. By Friday it was not completed and I was told to call on Monday. It was ready by Monday afternoon.
I would have given them a higher rating but for the following. When I picked up my machine I asked if they had a quilting foot attachment I could buy. They rifled around in some parts bins and found one, which I bought for about $4 or $5.
When I got home I realized I already had a quilting foot and decided to return the foot a couple days later. I still had my receipt.
I entered the store and said I'd like to return the foot. I was told by an older guy there that a sewing machine part is like any appliance or auto part and most places do not allow for returns. I was stunned.
First, the part was USED (and slightly scratched). Second, it wasn't in any sort of packaging when I bought it. Third, I never used it. Fourth, a specialty foot attachment isn't a critical part of the machine.
I just stood there and the guy grudgingly told me that he'd get someone to refund my money. I got the cash back and left.
If all you need is a tune up, I'd recommend American Sewing and Vac. But don't buy any parts there unless you're sure of it. Unfortunately, I probably won't go back unless I absolutely have to. read more
