This business needs serious attention. Weekends being the busiest time for donations (due to people…read morehaving time to go obviously), there needs to be some kind of increase in staff. Two nurses helping 20+ people on the chair side and one at reception is absolutely unacceptable. WAITING OVER AN HOUR to get into a chair is absolutely unacceptable. Either staffing needs to hire more people or adjust scheduling bc how does a business run with literally the lowest amount of staff possible. I personally know people choosing to drive to Ankeny to donate over coming to this branch bc it does not seem to be doing any better over months and months of management not fixing these issues. If it takes less time for someone to drive 40 minutes both ways on top of donating - you should recognize your business needs help. If this was one instance of a scheduling mishap that'd be a completely different thing but this has been an ongoing issue for far too long for management not to notice.

I've worked in customer service myself and experienced the high demands , but there's a better way to treat others so lose the attitude and learn proper etiquette. I was on a bed for 44 minutes due to a bad stick drawn by Addy the manager. I was okay with it at first until it felt like she was poking at my arm just for the heck of it . Then she brings another gal over . short and chubby named Sydney was just as bad . It hurt the second time around and they both looked annoyed that I was clearly in pain . They both just walked away without any more explanation and I caught them both staring and obviously speaking about me in a negative tone . I've never felt so embarrassed to be in a situation that I had no control over . These people are obviously not trained professionals. Just obviously losers in white coats . Never go to the Ames Center !! Beware of unprofessional staff !

I put my last $5 in the tank to go donate. I get to the desk, which has about ten techs standing around talking. They have one donor waiting. This girl looks me dead in my eyes, and tells me they are "kind of busy", and that I will have to come back tomorrow. I thought she was joking. She was not. She refused me service. I left. I called the Center Director when I got home. She gave no f***s. No apology, no nothing. Just said I can come back, if I want. If this is how they're going to do business, they won't be in business long.

Overall, it was okay…read more Today was my first successful donation w/ physical and overall, my experience was okay. It wasn't great, but it wasn't horrible either. I arrived almost an hour earlier than my appointment time and appreciated being worked in and able to start my process earlier. The process was also super informational and thorough, but still somehow quick and efficient which was great. Staff also answered any questions I may have had during the process and were attentive to me as well. Truly my only complaints are during my finger prick at the first station, I was pricked in the center of my middle finger and 7 hours later it is still hurting like holy cow!! As a medical professional myself too, I know that finger pricks need to be on the SIDE of the finger. Next time, I will be making sure of this and I would hope that staff is fully complaint in doing so. I also happen to notice a donor frequently dozing off as well to which I saw no staff react or act upon. I was told that sleeping or having my eyes closed was not allowed due to safety precaution, but multiple people let this person "sleep" while they saw and did nothing. Just thought that maybe we could be better in the future for things like that.

After seating me, they brought over multiple other doners who were helped before me, and thirty minutes later someone finally came to assist me. Mid-donation, they told me they had put the needle all the way through my vein, which resulted in a hematoma, and they gave me a kit to take home. After waiting countless minutes to get unhooked so I could leave, they informed me I had to finish my donation on the other arm. Three hours later, I'm finally home with both arms wrapped. I wouldn't go through that again for $500, let alone $45...

Why do you require appointment times and then allow SO many people to come donate at the exact same…read moretime? Horribly understaffed. If you go, prepare to stand around for an hour before you even get tested to make sure you can donate. Then once you are accepted, you will stand in another line for an hour before you even get a bed. The staff is not nice and clearly overworked. They have no respect for your time.

I have zero reservations about safety and quality of care from this donation site. #1 reason to donate: money. A donor gets $20 for the first successful donation of the week and $50 for the second. TIP: if you have never donated before check the internet for new donor coupons. You can earn lots more on your first several donations. TIP2: if you know someone who donates and it's your first time full out a referral donor card. They can earn $50 when you provide your 2nd donation. #2 reason to donate: saving lives. They make so many life improving treatments from plasma. So when you donate you are literally saving lives. A regular donation takes about 1 hour. This includes the questionnaire, finger prick and vitals and the donation time. The first time you donate or if you haven't been here for awhile expect 2 hours because you will have to have a physical. Healthy persons age 18 to 69 can donate. Drink lots of water the day before and the day of donation. Make sure to eat something prior to donating too. It helps with any queasiness. All money received is deposited on a reloadable debit card immediately donation is complete. You can schedule all of your donations on their website. It's super easy. They have evening, early morning and Saturday appointments too. The staff here has always friendly and professional. The facility is clean and well maintained. They have a supervised child care room for donors that is free during your donation. Donating provides me with extra spending money when things get tight. Plus it's a relaxing hour to myself to read, cruise the internet or write yelp reviews.

I was actually a utility custodian, so I filled in at various schools in the district when a custodian was gone, then the last year there I was assigned at the high school. The pay is below industry standard, and at that time, you were only paid once a month, which is very hard to budget for. The only reason I left (other than the aforementioned reasons) was the last year I was there, was the year some kid was calling in bomb threats, and they were wanting us 2nd shift custodians to go around and look for anything suspicious. As a place of learning, I think they are one of the best in the state, an an employer, meh, I'd keep looking for better if you go to work here.

My mentally ill suicidal child did not realize this was happening and during several crisis situations missed several appointments over the course of several months. When we finally received the bill 6 months later, it was outrageous. I don't have access to their portal so was unaware until months later when the bill came detailing what insurance had paid and late cancellation/no show charges. If this had been brought to our attention sooner, we could have prevented much of this & everyone would have been happier. The patient was never personally contacted to address the no show situation and it was not directly brought to her attention that she was being charged each time this happened. Don't tell me "she should have known, that's how this works," etc. there are grown, well-educated people who don't understand this stuff or how insurance works. The office staff needs to remember this & be sure the patient understands it as well.

This place feels like it's for parents with more time on their hands than the rest of us can reasonably hope to have. We believed in the philosophies of Waldorf, but needed something that worked in real life. Real life... where sometimes you set your kids in front of the TV. Real life... where you don't have time to make organic homemade gluten-free sugar-free cupcakes because you have to WORK. Real life... where you have to make compromises. When compared to other childcare places, I really appreciate that they have a philosophy that gives the kids the chance to connect to the seasons and the outdoors. But, ick. They give the idea a bad name, and our time there felt like a visit to Guilt City.
