Sam rented and then sold me a used mobility scooter for a family member and 2 years later it's still kickin! He seems knowledgeable and was helpful. This place is dated but it sells new and used mobility equipment so it's fine. They had rentals and some new items. Everything was manually done (no emailing of things). I'll make this short. I ordered an SmartScoot through American Mobility Center. I wanted good, local service if needed. I was not disappointed. Sam of AMC had the SS ready to go, assembled and tested when we picked it up. He loaded it in the car for us, and away we went. No drama, piece of cake unloading. Whew. Next day Sam showed up with the two batteries I'd ordered for my home scoot, a ShopRider streamer, zero radius turn with full joystick, but too bulky for travel, fixed everything I could no longer fix on it, polished it and would not accept any money. For the amount of money this place charges, I am really disappointed in my experience here. I have several issues requiring medical equipment, and half of what they charge you for and say it's not covered I have actually found that my insurance DOES cover, even if I have to ask some questions and occasionally fight to get the coverage. The star rating doesn't surprise me much. The staff were not very helpful in helping me to get what I needed, and I am still new to most of this, so you'd think that a company that advertises itself as "experts" on this subject would know what it's talking about when you call to ask questions. We've used some of the lower end DME companies like Apria and LifeCare Solutions (which has moved out of the area, so there are even fewer choices to choose from when it comes to these device offices), and have had better service and luck with them (although not MUCH better - it's difficult to deal with these companies and their constantly fluctuating prices!). I think I'll give them another chance or two before writing them off completely, and I may update my review once I see better customer service and maybe some more reasonable pricing, but as it stands, I wouldn't recommend this business in good conscience to anyone I know. read more

The manager John was so rude when I confronted him for incorrect charge on my bill. He did not even let me speak. I sent a brand new battery with my scooter. However,he charge me for two new batterie instead of one and didn't offer my battery back until I called. He said that the brand new battery was dead and wouldn't charge. I will not go back. I purchased a scooter from them it worked only the day I bought it. When I asked for my money back he told me I could purchase a.better one. He doesn't give money back. The scooter I took in that was barely working was sitting in front for sale. It does not work properly. This is taking advantage of handicapped people. The man that runs this business is a pathetic excuse of a man. That's to say he is a piece of sh*!. He charged my father-in-law nearly double for a GoGo Sport 3 wheeled scooter. He was rude, vulgar and utterly disrespectful. This was 2 years ago. I just assumed he was having a bad day. I only discovered the cost for the scooter 1 year after Gene passed. Until today... Gene's brother is staying with us. He is 88 and needs the scooter so he can cruise around the neighborhood or take it when he wants to go somewhere and extensive walking is required, but we lost the charger. I called him to get a charger. He has it in stock but wants 6 times want they want for the same charger at Amazon.com. Granted, I was willing to pay a little more but this piece of (pathetic excuse of a man) is trying to steal from me. Stay away from this place. He's a crook feeding off those in need. read more

I'm rated at 100% physically disabled by the VA...I was at the American Mobility store getting a VA approved electric wheel-chair and wheel-chair lift for my SUV. They tried to make me pay for the wiring of the chair lift when I knew it was already covered by the VA, at which point I told them to make it work or cancel the order.... While at their store, I saw a recliner there that seemed comfortable. The problem was: It was totally packed in with other chairs and I did not have room to try it out. Keep in mind that I live in a 500 SF Apartment.... So I paid over $1,300 for that recliner and they delivered it and set it up. After the set-up and dented wall, I realized that it had to be 26" out from my wall to fully recline and it took up most of my tiny living room area. I complained and was directed to another wall hugger web site with chairs made by PRIDE... I chose a wall hugger on that site of lesser quality and was charged another $300 to make the exchange. That's a total of $1,600 ! When American Mobility delivered it, they made me sign an agreement that I would not go through them to get any repairs.. BIG RED FLAG!!! But Due to my health problems, I really needed that chair! The Pride "lift" chair broke in 5 months after delivery. However, the Pride factory has made it possible for me to get it repaired. Pride is an American Company who backs up their warrantee. (But the chair should not have quit working so soon!) American Mobility Center is a foreigner woman owned company operated by the Owner's husband... I strongly suggest that you bypass American Mobility Center in Oceanside, California if you need medical assistance!!! When on the internet at the PRIDE web page today, I found out that the chair I now have can be purchased for less than $700 plus freight... Mine cost me over $1,600.00 at American Mobility Center.... That does not sound very American to me! read more

After the LAME response to my previous complaint...let me just say this. Yes, we saw the scooter before we rented it. We SAW that it was old and in bad shape. No choice in a better one. We made sure it worked. It did. We DROVE ALL THE WAY TO THE ZOO.... an HOUR from our home. We began using the scooter. About 10 minutes later, the battery DIED!!! As far as the HORRIBLE attitude of the owner, the yelling on the phone is just one of MANY complaints my husband and I have had. He cusses at customers, is belligerent, and is extremely disrespectful and insulting. I'm surprised he is still in business. We have NEVER come back in the shop and I NEVER WOULD unless I knew it was under new ownership. I have gone to another shop and while I realize that technical problems CAN HAPPEN ANYWHERE, CUSTOMER SERVICE IS JOB #1. I am the PAYING CUSTOMER. I demand to be treated with respect, and UNLESS I AM abusive to you first, there is NEVER a reason to yell at a customer or insult them or cuss at them EVER!!!! So disgusting! Good try though. I just felt the need to warn others AWAY from this establishment from likely abuse. Take your money elsewhere. The SOONER this place is out of business, the better! read more

I'm so unhappy with this place. I rented a knee scooter in December for my upcoming ankle surgery. I rented it through the end of March. I called today because the scooter has been useless to me and I'd like to return it. Well, there is absolutely no refund on my unused rental! My fault for not reading the fine print, I suppose. So do I want to return it early? Guess I'll use it as a coat rack. Then the day I went in to rent, I was with my young daughter and they made no offer to help me put the thing in my car and as I was leaving, the manager and his secretary got involved in some debaucle with their telephone and I yelled at the top of my lungs "Thank you" and "Goodbye" four times and they didn't even look up once. Never said thanks for my business at all. I'm so tired of crappy customer service. read more

Came into this store the guy was very nice, and fitted me to a compression thigh high sock. I purchased the sock and called 2 days later to ask about returns, because my doctor said I didn't need it. He said "No, returns we have a big sign stating no returns" I then mentioned to him nicely that "I didn't see the sign, and for future reference to let his customers know the return policy before purchasing" I was very calm on the phone, and he continued to cut me off, and then said "This is a medical store, not a retail store" I told him I have never bought from a medical store, and it would have been nice to know this. He then hung up on me. I found that very unprofessional and I never once raised my voice at him. It was very rude on his part. Also, to add I did try the sock on in store and it looked like someone else tried it on previously before me (because only one stocking was wrapped in plastic wrap) so not sure how I couldn't return it? Anyway, this is something minor, and I'm not sweating it, just want others to know this and maybe look elsewhere for your medical supply needs unless you want to be treated rudely. read more

If you value people who are honest and not rude then don't do business with these people. The Veteran's Administration granted me a mobility scooter from a injury I received in combat in Vietnam. The VA awarded the contract to American Mobility Center in Oceanside, CA. to provide me with one. About 6 months ago it was delivered and I was not satisfied with the speed, to say it was sluggish is an understatement. But when I pointed this out to the guy who delivered it he told me it had to be charged over night. That turned out not to be true since a charge didn't make it go any faster. I was disappointed by this and decided to just leave the scooter in my garage and not use it. After I few months I decided to ask the wheelchair repair department about the problem and they agreed to have someone come to my home and see if they could do something about it. What happened was American Mobility put the wrong batteries in the scooter because when they assembled it they need to put the correct batteries in but couldn't do that after it was assembled. It now works find. The VA told me they've had a lot of complaints from Veteran's from these people and they canceled their contract with American Mobility. The guy the VA spoke to bad mouth veterans as complainers and stated all the complaints weren't their fault. The guy who delivered the scooter left me stranded knowing full well they did the wrong thing and wanted to pass the problem on to someone else. These people are among the worst companies I've ever had the displeasure to do business with. Rude and inept. read more

This review is for in home services, not for the actual store. My patient received his power wheelchair from this business about 3 months ago. Apparently, they have a contract with the VA. We needed to have a holder for the ventilator, so 2 guys came to the house to get measurements and specifics - the same day the referral was sent to them by the VA! Both guys were extremely professional, friendly and courteous. They explained all the possible options, and then that the holder would have to be custom made and would take 2-4 weeks. We called at about the 3 week mark to check on it, and they were very nice about, explaining it may take a few days longer than expected. They could have given us attitude with the old "we said we would call you when it came in", but they absolutely did not. They came today, at their scheduled time, and installed the new holder, which works out great! He also explained how it was attached and what to do if we encounter any problems, but also encouraged us to call if we have any questions or concerns at all. We are in La Mesa, and when we realized he had come from Oceanside, he said, "Oh, it's no problem. We just want to make sure you are taken care of and happy." Everybody that we have encountered from AMC, rather by phone or in person, has been great. Their professionalism, honest and integrity are unmatched, and I would highly recommend them to anyone. read more
