Bought a large sectional from them. Custom leather, with sleeper, and round corner unit. Not cheap at all, but it's a beautiful piece of furniture and made here in America. When it was delivered there was a tiny mark on one of the cushions. They replaced that skin, no issues. After trying it for a couple weeks, we weren't thrilled with the firmness of the cushions (our preference, not their fault) and they sold us firmer cushions at a greatly reduced price. When I email Clayton in customer service with a question, he typically responds in minutes. This replaced a standard sleeper sofa, and there is NO COMPARISON. You sleep like royalty on these, without sag in the middle. Excellent experience and great customer service! read more

I purchased the Perry Comfort Sofa from American Leather for nearly $5,000 and the mattress is extremely uncomfortable. I had done a significant amount of research on sleeper sofas and became convinced that this was the best option on the market but we soon discovered that it is as hard as sleeping on the floor. I like firm mattresses but find it unbearable (and so does everyone else in my family). I almost wonder if they changed the mattress that they used to sell for a much lower quality one? To make matters worse, I'm one-week away from my due date and my mom was supposed to come to help me with the newborn and she was going to sleep on the American Leather sofa bed, but now that is not an option and we are scrambling for another solution. I purchased the Barcelona sofa from American Leather and two matching ottomans ($10,000). I was told by my interior designer that their furniture is known to be well-made. In the past I have bought sofas from Design Within Reach, Bo Concept and B&B Italia. I like high-end European furnishings, but I liked the fact AL is USA-made. I assumed this was "American high end." It has the appearance of a Florence Knoll sofa (I noticed a few of AL designs are copies of iconic pieces, which suited me fine because it's the look I want at a slightly lower price point). There is no AL showroom in the small town where I live--I even tried in NYC where I have an apartment (no showroom there either)--so my mistake for buying this without first testing it out. Critical error, because the thing is a marshmallow to sit in. I am 5'2" and my husband is 6'1" and we both require lumbar support pillows to sit any length of time in them. Even then, we are twisting and turning. I don't call this well-made when the support isn't there. AL says to talk with my local dealer, and the local dealer says the American preference is for softer sofas, so sorry. If you like squishy sofas, fine. But for everyone else who values quality inner support, save your money! read more

Purchased a Bentley sleeper couch with the upgraded Tempurpedic mattress and have only used the bed a couple of times. The mattress on solid board is very firm (hard), which some people may like or not like....to most people it would be hard. I will need to purchase a topper for the mattress and try it, but think it will still be very firm. I didn't want the feel of a traditional sleeper with metal bars and springs, and thought the American Leather sleeper would be a great option....but I'm not so sure. Be sure to try out the bed in a store a few times before considering purchasing as it is a hard bed. read more

The quality, workmanship, and durability especially in today's world are unmatched. They are expensive, but you get what you pay for. We ordered two black leather American Leather recliners with a particular sample of leather that had texture and sheen. But what was delivered was not anything like the leather sample - it was dull and flat with hardly any texture. The surface is almost sticky and it's very unpleasant. We emailed our complaint to the sales person, who told us, "Let me tell you about leather. All leather is different, it comes from cows. Just like people have different skin, so do cows." When I pointed out that the leather had no sheen like in all the photos of American Leather chairs on their website, she told me that photography is deceiving. That they do something to make them look like that. As I professional photographer myself, I know that doing that would go against consumers' rights to truth in advertising. Meanwhile on the American Leather website, there were seven different black leather choices, differentiating seven different leather treatments in the color, black. We ordered the swatch that we ordered the chair with, and it proved to be nothing like the leather on the chairs delivered to us. An inspector was sent to our home last week by the retailer (disguised as an independent, with a "Tri-State" logo on his shirt.) I asked them to bring the samples with him that we had ordered from but that was not possible. But since we had our sample that we ordered from the American Leather website, and our photographs of the sample (front and back, with the description) that we made at the store when we ordered them, we could prove that the chairs did not have the same leather - not even close. We had compiled a presentation to show the inspector with leather samples and photos of leather chairs showing that all the American Leather chairs that they show as examples have texture and sheen, on both the Bloomingdales website and the American Leather website. The inspector would not take the time to look at our presentation or even discuss our issue with us. He was quite brief and short with us, in fact he was in and out of our home in about two minutes (couldn't even take his shoes off.) We called the American Leather retailer (Bloomingdale's) to tell them to pick up the chairs because they are not what we ordered. They cannot show us one thing and give us another. Bought American Leather Carmet sectional sofa from Safaviah in Livingston and am very very disappointed in the product given the price we paid. The couch's back cushions are completely misshaped after a couple sittings. Material on cushions is not tight and appears very wrinkled after sitting on it. This was not the case of the one I sat on in store. Tried to resolve through Safaviah and the response was to blame the "white glove" delivery service who did not properly fluff my pillows. Followed up with 2 more professional emails to Safaviah with American Leather employees cc:d as well with no response. Not at all what I thought I was getting with either of these two companies. If this is what the sofa looks like after 2 days, imagine what it will look like in a week. Our couch arrived with a broken bed and American Leather has refused to replace it. Instead they've sent a repair company to our house four times across a span of almost a year, and it's taken this long because it's so difficult to schedule with the company. The sofa has been unattractive from the beginning with cushions that pill and lose their shape everyday. The whole couch looks tired and saggy. Plus, they slide off the couch while you are sitting on them. American Leather replaced several of my cushions a few years ago but 2 years later they are back to what the were. I bought two sofas from this company and both of them fell apart after just a few years. In both cases the fabric that attached to the frame started to sag and the cushions no longer bounced back into shape. This company needs to use better materials like memory foam in the cushions and put together their framing so it lasts longer. A $4,000 couch shouldn't fall apart after 5 years, the first one fell apart even sooner than that. American Leather supposedly has a guarantee but you have to send the couch back to Texas and it takes months to turn it around. So I didn't bother. read more

So my husband and I have bought three so far, 1 sofa sleeper and 2 sectional sleepers from this company over the years. So basically we have spent about $14,000, on their furniture. Our first piece was purchased in August 2008. It is a queen sleeper sofa with two seat cushions that hook so they do not slip off the sofa. This piece has zippers on the back of the cushions that zip them up to the back of the sofa. This piece is by far our favorite and it is the most heavily used. The cushions are very full and there is no sag, dents, wrinkles. This piece is a five-star piece. No problems with any cushions (back or seat) sliding or moving in any way. We purchased our next piece that was delivered I believe December 2013. This one was a sectional with a queen plus sleeper. What a disappointment. When this one came, the delivery people could not put the legs on and they left them for us. We realized why very quickly. One side of the bottom of the sofa was constructed so poorly and there was wood blocking inside the hole where the feet were to go. There was also not enough fabric covering the front panel at the bottom and you could see the foam sticking out when standing in front of and looking at the red sofa. The fabric was also stapled very poorly around the bottom of the sofa on the side where we could not get the legs in. American Leather (through the furniture store we bought it) did send a service person out who basically took the foot and cut off some of the wood so that it could fit in and not hit the blocking inside. He then had to replace the front panel which was improperly covered. In about a year or two the sleeper sofa gears began to malfunction and got bent, somehow. A service person came out at supposedly fixed it while we were not around. I had taken a video beforehand of the problems with the unit at its function. I had very clear pictures of every scratch on all of the metal underneath in the sleeper section. When we came back we found that everything was in the same poor working order and that the same scratches were present. All of the materials that were delivered from American leather in a large, heavy box to our home to be installed into our unit were gone but we had the same old ones in the unit. So basically, we believe that the repair person took the new parts and tried to jimmy the broken parts to function. Another person had to come out and do more work (and new parts were shipped again). One of my pictures, look at the two legs and you will see that both front legs are angled. Additionally, when you sit on the sofa for several hours such as playing board games, watching movies or TV, the seat cushions slide forward it off the couch. The back cushions also slide off the back of the couch. This piece does not have the zipper that our first piece has (and American leather moved away from). They started using a stiff foam roll at the top of the back of the cushions that you stuff in the back of the couch. It does not stay in and the cushions are falling forward and off all the time. So basically your back cushions and seat cushions are constantly coming off the sofa. Despite this bad experience, and because of our good experience with our first piece, we bought a third one in mid to late 2016. This sectional sleeper sofa is in our second home that we spend time in approximately less than 2 to 3 months a year. Usually, it is only my husband at the home while traveling for his work. During these times my husband and I only sparingly use the sofa. We are also DINKs, so there are never children abusing this sofa. From the day this was delivered and assembled the fabric on the cushions on the back was saggy. The fill is also not enough. When you sit on it watching TV for an hour or two or use it seated forward at the edge to eat food off the coffee table, the cushions that you're sitting on slide forward and off the couch. So you are constantly having to stand up and put them back on the couch. The back cushions are also sagging and the stiff foam roll that holds them to the back comes out of the back so they're basically falling off the couch, too. (This is the same problem that is happening with the second one we purchased.) At the time of our last purchase, we visited a reputable furniture store (and I do not blame them in any way for this) and the exact model we have they had on the floor. There were no such issues and no sags or wrinkles. We were hoping that our second one was an anomaly. There are many pictures on here from AL's website and sales materials. I will never purchase another American Leather product. Here's why. I am a long-time customer and decided to research their sofa beds and other items for my home that is being redecorated. While their product is good, my experience with customer support, from the reps to the highest level, was disappointing at best. My first encounter was with an American Leather Rep working for a third party who offered the sofa beds at a significantly reduced price. I asked questions to understand the products' differences, but he could not explain them and became rude and unprofessional. I contacted Brian Golden, the CEO, to alert him to the need for customer service training. He appeared grateful and connected me with the President of American Leather, Veronica Schnitzius. She had been made aware of the situation, so she began the conversation by letting me know that customer service is an area of the company that she is working on. She either had or was having a meeting that day about improvements. She expressed her gratitude for my taking the time to tell them about my aggravating and disappointing experience, thanking me for not going immediately to another vendor. Something she acknowledged many customers would have done given the circumstances. With customer service at the lowest point in my recent memory, I felt that my input made a difference. Veronica asked me to meet the area rep who would explain the product differences. It was a considerable inconvenience, but when she alluded to a discount to compensate for my time and aggravation, I believed it would be worthwhile and addressed when I met the rep. It was not. We met at a store that carried the sofabeds, where she explained all of the features and benefits of the products in the store but was unable to explain why I should or should not purchase the American Leather sofabed from the third party (the store didn't carry the same product the third party carried). Had I realized I was meeting her for another sales pitch that did not include a discount, I would not have gone to the trouble. This meeting was on January 21. On or about March 20, almost two months after my initial contact, I reached out again to Veronica to let her know the outcome of my meeting and that I was disappointed that no one cared to find out. I mentioned that I also received an email from my local store rep about a 10% discount on American Leather sofabeds. After an aggravating experience and a disappointing response from everyone at American Leather, the solution offered to elevate and regain my loyalty was the firing of the third-party rep! It is appalling that a President would first share that with me and think I would be satisfied, especially since my first contact with the CEO was about improving the customer experience and additional customer service training. Yet, at the end of the day, I was offered the same 10% discount, nothing more, nothing less, and a rep was fired, much to my shock. American Leather is an unprofessional organization that should value the employees they hire and train them on all of its products so that they are equipped with the tools to answer questions and sell effectively. I will never buy another American Leather product and suggest you steer clear too. read more

When I contacted them for replacement fabric, I received no response to emails and voicemails. When I did get through, they tell me the fabric is no longer in stock. Great foldout bed, terrible couch. The cushions are flat, uncomfortable and slide apart and partially off the couch multiple times a day, such that it looks and feels terrible if it's not tucked and tidied repeatedly (i.e. I do it multiple times daily). It's an extraordinarily high maintenance sofa. The bottom cushions flatten and are very uncomfortable even when in place, which they are not most of the time. If you look for American Leather on Complaints Board website, you will find _many_ reviews citing this same problem over years, along with consistent reports of poor customer service. read more

I purchased a queen size sleeper couch in leather 10 years ago. It was crazy expensive. -The Good- 1. The bed is by far the most comfortable I've seen in a couch. It is not nearly good enough for everyday use, but it is perfectly fine for a guest to use for a few nights. 2. It breaks down into manageable pieces. After two moves, I now understand this process. But it is not simple. American Leather has precise instructions on their website - follow them closely or you will lose a finger. -The Bad- Sadly, the quality of the leather upholstery was poor. I expected it to wear over time as all leather does. However, this was something different. After the first year, we started to see peeling in the seats. Frequent leather treatments have been unable to stop it. We have babied this thing (kept it out of the sun, etc) but it now looks like an Ikea sofa that is way past its prime. read more

American leather just authorized a full credit refund through Interior Illusions, and I applied it to a new bed and sofa manufactured by different companies. I now consider the matter satisfactorily closed, and am looking forward to the exchange. What I learned from this lengthy experience is that there is no such thing as a full-time sleeper sofa (yet) which will be as comfortable as a real bed! I think that this sofa might be fine for part-time use, and I hope that they determine what the problems were to improve the product for future customers, I am very pleased and impressed with the way in which they handled this situation and for that I'm giving American Leather three stars. read more

Our sleeper sofa is 7 years old, well within the 10 year warranty period. Screws from the mechanism started falling out slowly but surely over a couple of years period. Now the bed won't open/close anymore and we contacted American Leather. They wouldn't assist and insisted we work directly through the retailer we purchased the sleeper sofa from. We have called at least 20 times over the course of the last 2 months to try get this resolved, so we can have a working sofa bed. The retailer says they're not allowed to share the contact information of their contact at American Leather, who keeps putting her off by saying that the warehouse is seeing if they have the replacement parts. While the fabric has held up on our sofa, the cushions (both the seat and the back) shoot off the back. I remember when I used to be able to just sit down on a couch without adjusting the cushions.... those were simpler times. I've reached out to American Leather but to no avail. On the plus side, for the 1% of the time when it's used as a bed, it seems fine. The setup and storage mechanism is easy to use. The other 99% of the time though (when used as a couch) it doesn't do its job. You are better off getting a $790 leather sofa from Costco! Called customer service about our problems and like others here they sent a person out. After looking at it he would not say anything to us about the problems, and said he would report his findings only to the company! A week later customer service calls me to say all our problems are "normal wear"! It was like pulling teeth to get a call back and to get them to get someone out to fix it. When someone came, they didn't fix anything and they assembled it back wrong. Quality does not equal the Price. I purchased 2 American Leather Elliott Recliners in late September 2016. Within the first year of minimum use because of them being in our second home the seat cushions became uncomfortable because they had become "deflated". Now not even 2 years since purchase the recliners seats are like sitting on a piece of hard plywood. It seems that whatever material that is used to form the cushion part of the seat of the chair has completely dissolved. Before purchase I visited several American Leather dealers to look at the recliner style that I purchased. I read a lot of the sales brochures because the prices on these products were at a point where you expect quality. Unfortunately the showroom model quality of the seat cushion did not hold up. In the same purchase I purchased an Ainsley Sofa and it needed a repair person immediately after delivery because the fabric was skewed on the base as compared to the cushions. It also took nearly a year to get the headrests for the Elliott Recliners which were ordered at the same time as the recliners. The first ones arrived in a different color (in the sales brochure it says they keep a swatch of the exact color match that you ordered and match it if there is ever a problem....Oops!) and the dealer had been paid and made little effort to get them to me. I purchased this because my dogs can no longer go up the stairs. I didn't want them to sleep alone so I wanted the best sofa couch I could buy. I looked at it in Minneapolis but purchased from a store in FL where I was heading to for the winter. Last night was our first night on it. I put my big feather bed on it, as it was still really hard. One of my dogs didn't like it much either, as she hopped off 1/2 way through the night. It is really expensive, (5K) and one reviewer mentioned you couldn't tuck your fitted sheet in. You're right, you can't. I had 4 neighbors come in and lay down and they all said they it was as hard as a rock. On top of that they charged me and extra $300 for 10 day turnaround instead of 8-12 weeks. It took 21 days, which meant I slept on my couch for the rest of the time. So I now have a 5K couch that looks like a regular couch from a regular furniture store. A colossal waste of money. I've decided the dogs will have to stay on the first floor on their own. read more

This is the second time that Neil Kapp at American Leather has gone out of his way to provide excellent service, so I've got to write a review. Our sleeper sofa needed a new zipper and was out of warranty...and he still arranged for us to be shipped the new zipper! Our sleeper sofa is still going strong, the mechanisms still open and close smoothly and we must have had the piece for about 15 -20 years now. The fabric still looks great and we have three dogs. We bought it from Macy's, it was a great choice. The sofa is still stylish too. Its really comfortable. read more

I have written 2 letters to the American Leather rep and their attitude is "so sad, too bad". I don't even know if it's a good product. I bought a very expensive American Leather sleeper sofa from Macys/Bloomingdales furniture for $3500. It didn't even last five years. The wooden frame on the underside cracked in half, a piece of wood and some screws fell on the floor and now the mattress is falling through this gaping hole. I thought if I spend a lot of money and buy what I thought was high end and supposedly very good quality it would be a great sleeper sofa. It's turned out to be a nightmare. Despite the fact that American Leather has a lifetime warranty on the frame no one will fix it. Not Macys Furniture, they are the worst, not the extended warranty I bought from them for $500, denied the claim. Save your money and buy an $800 sleeper sofa from Bobs. After the store contacted manufacture, store owner called me back 1/10 and would not take the sofas back for a refund, but wanted to add stuffing to the back and seat cushion. Owner is telling me that this is normal and that one has to "fluff" the sofa each and every time you sit in it. No one told me when purchasing sofa, that this needed to be done (would never have purchased such a product) Also the two customer service people who I contacted on 1/2 stated this was not normal on such a short time period.
