Small locksmith shop just opened near the jack in the box. If you need anything key or lock related, you will most likely find it here. I had a couple of uncommon keys Ace Hardware was unable to complete. It took the employee a while to find the right keys. Seems like they're still settling in and trying to figure things out. American ended up having the keys on hand and cut them without any issues. They are capable of the following: Car keys & Remotes Ignition & Door Lock Repair Auto, Residential & Commercial They also have a van to respond to 24hr emergency services.

first off don't come here because if you need a refund they won't refund you everything. I paid $200 for a key to be made for my car. they came out once. the key they made didn't work. came out a 2nd time. the key only unlocked the door and didn't work in the ignition, they then came out a 3rd time. the key worked in the door, and they told me the key "worked in the ignition and turned the car on" I then paid $200 for the keys came back home and the key did not turn my car on. I told the technician they sent out the first time. on these cars the key needs to be programmed to the car with a chip. he then told me "yes I know I understand" he obviously didn't because the key wasn't programmed. after finding out the key didn't work on my car I asked for a refund. brought the card my receipt and the keys and would only refund half what I paid them. I do not recommend coming here for any service. read more

The guy who runs this place is Vijay Gharu. We used to work together at a car repo place. Last year I ordered a key from him, paid $250. He made me a back up for $50. Said I could pick it up in Fremont. When I got ready to get the key, he now tells me I have to come to Tracy. A slightly longer trip from Oakland. I Uber out there. ($70 with tip) I pay $55 for the key ( he quoted me $50 and I confirm the day of) I buy the key, Uber back to Oakland ($60), put the key in the ignition, but doesn't work. I call, and his assistant suggested I did something to the key, and if it doesn't work its my fault. When we worked together he would make keys them test them in the vehicle. I didn't do that this time. Not only is he blaming me he's ducking my calls and texts. I want him to make a new working key, or return my $$$. His counteroffer: he makes a new key for $280 and I return to Tracy from Oakland to get it. Finally, Vijay likes to let you know that he's a Christian. We are embarrassed by his behavior. read more

Inside the business, you will find a large inventory of keys, key accessories, various door locks, car key fobs, gun safes and just about everything else in between. When I walked into the store, there were no other customers and I was greeted by, Bob. I told Bob I needed everything re-keyed the same as my front door lockset. He checked all the products prior to re-keying to ensure some of them were not already keyed the same. Bob told me he would have the locks re-keyed within the hour and he would call me. After about 15 minutes, Bob called me and told me the locks were ready to go. When I arrived, Bob had everything ready for me to pick up. I asked him to make three more keys and he completed the new keys in just a couple of minutes. As of today, this location charges $23 to re-key a lock that has a key with it. My experience here was quick, easy and convenient.

I had an excellent experience with American Key Tech. Vijay arrived right on time, was easy to reach by phone, and responded promptly throughout the process. The entire interaction--from communication to payment--was smooth and hassle-free. Payment was very smooth. Before contacting Vijay, several locksmiths told me that re-keying the lock on my French door was either too complex or not possible, with some even insisting it would have to be replaced entirely. Vijay, however, was confident from the start. He mentioned it might take some time, but once he got started, he completed the job in under 15 minutes--far faster than I expected. He made three keys for me (two were included, and I paid for the extra which only 5$), and all of them worked flawlessly. Vijay is clearly a professional who knows his craft well. I'm extremely happy with the service and would highly recommend American Key Tech to anyone looking for a reliable locksmith. read more
