This was a great event for me. This was my first 5k, and my first race ever. When I arrived downtown, I can understand how people could potential get overwhelmed with the amount of people, 3 thousand people running with me in the 5k alone, plus with the races ending, and others getting ready to start, the blocks around fountain square where a sea of red.
Even with the Walls of people, everything seemed very well organized. There where signs everywhere, and the starting area was easy to find with its big banner. There were food vendors that donated fruit, sandwiches, juice, etc to the racers for a pre or post run snack (shout out to green bean delivery).
The race itself was pretty fun, though I have no other race to compare it to. Columbia pike was a bit of a challenge on the second half with the hill, but it seemed like most people managed. They had entertainment every mile, including some DJs and an acapella group singing.
The 5k was 45 dollars to run (pricey from what i hear from others), but it was for a great cause. I received a customer tshirt with my companies logo on it, a metal, swag from the vendors, some great memories, and a challenge to cut down my time for the next race. Flying pig 5k, here I come. read more
