My original plan was to try out 2-3 instructors, then decide who I felt was the best fit for me in the sense of training style and personality. After my first session with Ben, my plans changed. It didn't take long to realize he is extremely knowledgable, but more importantly, his process of teaching makes you feel comfortable and speeds up the learning process. August and John were very welcoming to all the students and, after a short intro, we got to work. There were women of all ages and fitness levels, and all were really getting into it and learning. August introduced the right amount of stress to the training as we progressed and introduced real-world scenarios, which was extremely helpful. When I told a friend of mine (as I was showing off my new bruises :)) that it was 2.5 hours per class, she questioned "Why so long? They should do like 1-hour instruction & practicum, no?" My response was that I felt part of the training was to put you in stress mode and make you fight when tired. Again, real world. We took short water breaks, but everyone was excited to get back on the mat! I travel alone a lot for work and have had been in some situations I couldn't avoid, so I know the skills I learned (and will continue to practice) will be something I can draw on should I need to. Should I decide to become a practitioner, I'm sure I'll be coming here. Looking forward to their street training class, whenever the next one comes up. Thanks August!
