went about a week and a half ago. review had slipped my mind. they were fantastic, especially, Brandon, one of the RSO's. i plan on returning pretty soon despite having closer ranges to go to. the environment and the guidance from the RSO's is pretty great. my first time owning a handgun and my first time shooting a handgun at a range. couldnt hit sh*t. brandon guided me and i was able to make FAR more consistent groupings. read more

For a first time range shooter this place was fantastic. One of the safety guys gave me some pointers on handguns and helped make sure the kick wouldn't be too rough on me. Black's Creek Public Shooting Range - View of down range - Gun/Rifle Ranges Near Me - Kuna, Idaho

I went with my 13 year old son. They give you a card that states you went through the orientation. No name on the card. Didn't ask us for our names. The dude was being completely condescending and treating me as if I was a civilian that has never touched a firearm in my life. Which would've been a big deal if I hadn't been wearing a black sweatshirt with USMC in camouflage on the front. Mostly though it's irritating because he's being condescending and treating me like a child. Last summer I had gone to this range and there was another guy that did a great job, but it was really windy the day that I went there and I took all three of my kids, but we didn't end up staying for more than about five minutes so he gave me a card for a free range day And that is what I presented, and the dude was looking at me like I just handed him a damn rotary phone. He said oh wow this is really old. Can't be that old. It wasn't even a year. The only good thing that I can really say about this place is that they accepted the card and didn't charge me and if you wanna range that is completely anal retentive and going above and beyond with every little rule no matter how small this is the place for you. Don't get me wrong, safety rules are great, but there is a point where you go from enforcing to rules to being completely ridiculous and not allowing a shooter to enjoy shooting. In my opinion, that's this range. So this place has a redline with maybe an inch or two of concrete in front of it which also has the pillars in front of it and then it has the concrete tripod benches that have cut outs at the back of them so that you can sit there with a rifle and then directly behind the bench is a yellow line. First, the safety officer dude was telling me that he was going to have me put my Glock on some sort of towel or piece of cloth or something and I told him no thank you. In order to take a rifle there you need a bag for it. As soon as I walked in the building to check in, the guy started treating me like I was a child. I don't have one so the person treated me like a child and handed me one. Once finished, I took the bag in and the dude told me to take it to my vehicle first. Treated me like a child the entire time. For some reason you can only have 1 firearm at a time on the bench. In order to switch out firearms, you have to put the barrel safety flag in the firearm and take it to the table behind you and grab another. Of course pointed down range. Not at a slight angle, but directly down range. My unloaded with a safety flag in the chamber was slightly less than a 45° angle, but not perfect straight down range and the safety officer pointed at it... I walked up and slowly pushed the handle to straighten it. My son was the only one shooting so he grabs the Glock from the table and he's about midway between the yellow and the red line and he raises the Glock to shoot it, and the safety officer told him to step up to the red line. The part of this that irritates me is that you can be sitting on the little chair inside the notches next to the bench, and if you sit on the ground right there, you will be touching the yellow line. But he was halfway between the yellow and the red line he was told to step up to the red line, which makes no sense to me. The range safety officer was also giving incorrect stance and hand and finger placement advice to one of the female shooters. I was pretty irritated as we were leaving seeing us how I'm carrying this bag with my rifle in it into the guard shed and I unzip the bag and take my rifle out so that I can give him the bag and immediately the guy is telling me to take it out to my car first as he's sitting in his chair with his legs up being completely condescending as if he's talking to a child. that's exactly what I wanna do, take my rifle in this bag. That's not mine to my car put my rifle in my car and bring the bag back in.... I had my son take the bag back in because I was pretty sure that I was going to say something condescending to the d***** that works there. So until this range has better personnel, I won't be going back. The thing that pissed me off the most though is that this range is down in Kuna and probably the same distance from the Curtis exit that the George Norse range (free range) in Nampa is which is over by the Nampa dump down off 12th. read more

It was my first time shooting here. All the folks were wonderful. Even the other shooters were friendly and helpful. The range personnel are trained shooting experts, IMO, and helped me sight my rifle in for a hunt. I was surprised by the demeanor of them all and would recommend Black's Creek range to anyone of any experience. I will definitely be back. Thanks guys! read more

Facilities are excellent but they have a major safety flaw. Worse yet, workers have dismissed my concerns when I casually mention it over the last several years. Shooters are allowed to place their cased guns on the horizontal bench behind the shooting tables. This places the muzzles in direct line with all the other shooters, guests and workers. What gun safety bafoons would allow this? Rule 1- Treat every gun as if it is loaded. Rule 2- Always keep muzzle pointed in a safe direction. Enough said. I've contacted Idaho Fish and Game. They are investigating as it is owned by them. read more

An open air range for both pistol and rifle shooters. No full auto fire without special permission, though. (Yes, you can own a machine gun in Idaho, if you can afford it.) Black's Creek Public Shooting Range is owned by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game and managed by the black powder shooting club, the EE-DA-HOW Long Rifles. Getting out to the Range: It is a bit of a drive, but the fastest way out from my Meridian residence is to hit the I-84 and head east to exit 64. Take the exit and at the bottom bear right on the Kuna-Mora Road. The range is located southeast of Boise at 2420 E. Kuna-Mora Road, four miles west of exit 64 off of Interstate 84. Phone: (208) 342-9614. The centerfire range accommodates shooting distances from 15 to 200 yards. Since you have to walk out and post your target, 200 yards seems far enough to this shooter. But a 300-500 yard range with large diameter steel gong-targets would be nice, if terrain would accommodate them. Black's Creek also has a pistol range, silhouettes, and combat range. They host several shooting matches throughout the summer. It's also where the Hunter Education range is located. A range fee of $10.00 is charged per person, per day, but includes your first target. You can bring out your own targets too, but the target frames provided only accommodate about 3'x'3 targets. If you want to shoot larger targets, be prepared to bring your own target frames. No restrictions on number of firearms a person may use on the range during a shooting session. Both the range and the on-site restrooms are accessible to physically-challenged shooters. The parking lot is graveled, but well packed and traversable by wheelchairs. The shooting area is covered and cement floored. The range is not open every day, so check the schedule on the range website at: http://www.blackscreekrange.com Currently the range is open from 10AM to 6PM on TH, F, SAT, SUN., and M. But figure that he days and hours will decrease as winter sets in. A Range Master is on duty during all open days. Also on the website are the Range Safety and Conduct Rules.
