Terrible service. Understaffed. Waited an hour to just get measurements. GO ANYWHERE ELSE.

I wish I could give this company a 0 star rating. If you have any choice, go with men's wear house, tuxedo junction, or jos a bank. We rented fifteen tuxes for the most important day of my life (our wedding), and 14 shoes had the soles fall off the bottom. I, the groom, had one sole fall off just as I was walking out to meet my bride, and the second fall off as we were walking down the aisle after being married. If it weren't so upsetting, it might be ludicrously funny. The embarrassment and humiliation of the series of events tainted be day. In addition to both of my soles falling off mid stride, 12 other soles fell off from 8 other groomsmen. We duck taped shoes back on that we could, and the rest of us went without soles for the rest of the night. The company uses the cheapest suppliers and material they can find, and it shows. Their response after the fact was ludicrous as well. Instead of apologizing and refunding everyone for he costs of the tuxes, their initial response was to refund $20 to the people who lost shoes. We argued and eventually, the company agreed to refund all groomsmen who lost shoes, and offer $40 to anyone who did not. After 12 calls over the course of 4 months since the wedding, I am still fighting to get the groomsmen refunded. Tonight, one of the groomsman who had his shoes fall apart received a $40 refund after I conferenced in two different stores. The bottom line is, this company is low quality and shady. They constantly changed notes and prices in their system to my detriment, offered one refund to everyone, failed to give it, and four months later are now only offering partial refunds to all of the groomsmen. Do your best to avoid this scummy business. Rent elsewhere. read more

I had to recently rent a tuxedo for a wedding. It seemed like a lot of money to borrow something. This was the first time I had to wear a tux in a wedding as opposed to just wearing a suit. There were so many weird little do-dads and gadgets. The one thing looked like a championship belt or male girdle. I kept doing the Aaron Rodgers championship belt move once I put the thing on. The suspenders were weird to wear. The patent leather shoes were shiny. I wish we would have all got to wear the Air Jordan 11's with patent leather but it was not my big day. Come to think of it, I will probably never have to come back to American Commodore unless another friend wants me to be The Worst Man in the their wedding. I quote Lil' Flip from the "I Got 5 On It Freestyle": Iceberg Jeans...that's how I carry myself. Can't no h* break my heart cuz Imma marry myself. Maybe I will take Flip's advice. I would recommend another provider. We had an issue with half of the 8 tuxedos rented. - The grooms tux was too small - The father or the bride tux was too small - The father of the grooms tux was too small These were all measured by different people, so it wasn't just one persons mismeasurement. - The pants for one tux didn't have button or clasps to - they were ripped off by prior user, thus couldn't be used. - Another groomsman wasn't provided bow tie - we were lucky to find a place on the way to the church that was open. - Another groomsman shirt had to secure a knife to open up the button holes of his shirt, they were sewn shut. So we didn't have the best experience a few weeks ago when we returned a tux. My fiance rented the tux for a wedding and we decided that during our return we could check around the shop and see if we can maybe find something for our wedding (we're on the fence between suits or tuxes). We didn't get a greeting, we didn't get a smile, all we got was "You returning?" The guy that took the tux back didn't really acknowledge us (other than the incomplete sentence mentioned) and the staff members walking around weren't friendly either. It felt like there was a ton of tension in there and I was just ready to claw my way out. Maybe you should teach your staff how to treat customers when they enter the store. You never know if that return might be another potential purchase (we have a groom, 8 groomsmen and 2 dads that definitely need tuxes - you missed out on a big sale). read more

I visited American Commodore after a terrible experience at Men's Warehouse. I wanted to rent a navy suit for my wedding, and was going to pick out some average-looking suit when the associate at the North Olmstead location came over and quickly talked me out of the suit I was looking at. She recommended a much more tailored tux due to the athletic build of me and my groomsman. Thank goodness for her, as the tux she picked out was way more flattering and was even less expensive! The entire tux package was way less than we expected, and I only had to pay $20 as the groom! I was already very satisfied with my experience with AC, but they really out did themselves when I ripped my pants taking pictures THE DAY OF THE WEDDING! Literally minutes before the ceremony, someone showed up on site with new pants for me - I couldn't believe it! They totally saved the day, and it was one of the best experiences I have had as a customer. I would HIGHLY recommend American Commodore from now on! read more

American Commodore Tuxedo was the perfect tuxedo store for my attire. I received dozens of compliments from my wedding guests asking where I got my tux. American Commodore offered a slimmed fit tux that looked awesome on the groomsmen. They also gave us a discount of 3 tuxes free for my order of 15 tuxes. Finally, I really wanted bow ties that the groomsmen could tie on there own and they were the only tux place that offered this feature. I have never been so disappointed with a company. My brother and his fiancé went to the Great Northern store to rent tuxes for their groomsmen and I cannot believe the awful experience they have encountered. They won a great deal on tux rentals from American Commodore from a bridal show, went to the store a few times to work out the details and were told each of the tux rentals would be $140 with the deal they won. Originally the company seemed very nice and advised they would keep all their paperwork from the bridal show on file for them to make things easier. Now that the groomsmen are starting to pay for their rentals, they are being charged almost $190. When trying to talk to an employee at the Great Northern store to correct the error, the employee was incredibly rude, insisting the price was correct and, of course, that original $140 quote that was supposedly on file for their convenience is nowhere to be found. She then told my brother his groomsmen would get a full refund if their plans changed. Guess what?! Apparently "full refund" means what he paid minus a cancellation fee. This company is a complete scam- they get you to come in because of these great deals offered and then when it comes time to pay, those prices are non-existent. When considering this company to rent or buy your suits or tuxes from, I highly recommend going elsewhere. read more

The previous one star reviews are well-deserved. This place has horrible customer service. Every employee that I interacted with was rude and apathetic about the job. For reference, I was renting a tuxedo for a wedding. I got to the store right before closing, and they were much more interested in shoo-ing me out the door than making sure the suit fit well. Maybe they knew I couldn't modify the suit if I wanted, but still. The employees seemed to have a weirdly mean relationship with each other. When I dropped off my suit they were bickering and making dumb jokes ("Get me a hanger." "Your mom's a hanger!"). I found this highly unprofessional. As other reviewers have mentioned, the suits are very low quality considering how much they cost. The shirt and shoes were sort of generic sizes (small, medium, large), not custom fitted, even though they took extensive measurements before the rental. As a result my shirt was baggy with arms that were way too long. All three pieces of the suit (pants, vest, jacket) had tears in the fabric. They were all in places that didn't show much when the suit was worn, but I still felt somewhat shabby-looking showing up to a wedding knowing that I was wearing low-quality garments. Lastly, the jewelry was cheap plastic. I'm not sure how this place stays open. I guess they expect only one-time customers, either for weddings or prom. I would definitely not visit again, and I hope my review makes other people think twice before renting from American Commodore. There are other rental services in town, which might be better. read more
