I had an amazing night visiting from out of state. First off the place has a charming old tavern look about it which I like. The stage has your classic set up for comedy with a brick wall background. The food was your average pub food. Nothing amazing but still tasty. I got the ballpark nachos and a double "whiskey dick". The drink was great so I ordered another (not a double) that was also great. My server Colette was fantastic. This place really seems to choose it's staff well because it really seemed like she fit the venue. So I Jeremy Piven was performing so I had to come out and support. I got in like about 30 mins before start time and was a little irritated because all the focus was given to the VIP line(yes I know they paid for preferred service). Everytime the VIP line shrunk and I thought we were about to be let in, more ppl would show up. So what could have been a 5 min wait turned into 15-20. Once inside the experience was awesome as usual. I grabbed a beer and the sliders. The sliders were pretty good, but the fries were just too much. I guess I'm too woke but a straight white man "joking" about gay people and people of color didn't sit right with me. The "jokes" in question were just blatant homophobia and racism. A gay black woman could've said the same bit and it still would've been in poor taste imo. I fear you're just not funny if you can't find anything else to joke about but minorities... Doors open at 7:15pm for the 8pm showing. There was already a line at 7pm. The guy walks around with a big QR print out for you to scan for the menu. They walk down the line to check you in by taking your last name. Come early if you want to be seated towards the front. If you want to be seated together with your group, everyone must be present. The venue can hold 200 people with a mixture of 5 seated tables facing the stage with bar tops in the back and singles along the wall. It's a minimum of 2 drink per person. Specialty Cocktails cost $18 for single and $28 for double. It gets sneaky when they ask you what brand spirit you want. What you don't know is when the bill comes, they charge an additional $4 for everything besides house brand. I would recommend to stick with beer, wine or canned drinks ranges from $10-$16. We also ordered ballpark nachos ($18) which was fully loaded with beans, cheese, jalapeños, salsa and guacamole on the side. Huge portion that could feed 4. We bought tickets to see Dave Atell. It started out with a host and two other openers. At the very end, they all came on stage. Overall, it was a small and intimate venue. Not a bad seat in the house. I stumbled across this hole in the wall comedy club while just walking the street. I saw a sign that said open mic, free admission and I was like, I don't mind if I do. They had the downstairs open and it was packed. There was a bar in the back that had drink specials all night. They had a small selection of signature cocktails and a few snacks available to purchase. I got a margarita and it was pretty good. Even though I had limited interaction with them, the staff was friendly enough. You will find metered street parking in front of the club and within a reasonable walking distance. There were high tops in the back and bench seating up front. It was good to see some aspiring comics and I really respected their grind. Most of them were not funny. They would get an occasional snicker from me (most of the time because of the crowds reaction to the bad joke). The MC kept the show going and was pretty funny. You always wonder when at events like this....I am seeing the next big name in comedy. I will be honest, I would be very surprised if I did that night. Also, I heard that if you been to one open mic that the shows become a bit receptive with the comics doing the same sets that they did in previous open mic shows.This was my first time however, so it was all new stuff to me. This is a locally owned and operated club. From what I have seen, it does not get the huge names in the comedy game on a regular basis, but still gets some talented funny men and women to come through. I did see that they have DL Hughley and Craig Robinson coming soon too. This would make a great date night or girls/boys night out. I am very glad that I was able to check it out. read more

I've been to the American Comedy Club in San Diego's Gaslamp district quite a few times. It's a basement club with an industrial vibe. Tonight I'm seeing an up and coming performer, Jeremiah Watkins. Last time I came with friends to see an OG of comedy - Dave Attell! Also saw Ismo (Ismo Mikael Leikola). I've always had a great time here. I love live comedy, and AMC is focused on the comedy. The drinks are great and the food is about to e average for comedy clubs. Tonight my server was Kelly, and I'd like to give her a mention for how sincerely she made sure my food/drink needs were met. Yes - she was a looker, but that has nothing to do with how great she treated me. read more

We came here recently to see Michael Rapaport while he was in town. The comedy club entrance is street level, but the club itself is located in the basement so you'll have to take a flight of stairs to get there. Since it is in the basement, it's basically supported by a few pillars throughout the club and unfortunately we sat behind one of these, so our view of the stage was somewhat limited but luckily the comedians know this so they walked back and forth. Servers were decent, drinks were ok (2 drink min per guest). Not a bad place to catch an act. read more

Went to go see Mo Amer. They have a two drink minimum, which states that if you don't abide, you will be escorted out. Seems a bit harsh, but I get it. The people that work here are rude and don't seem to care about customer service yet, they add an automatic gratuity to your bill even if there's only 2 of you! Wings, soda and water cost me $100!!! As a Mexican American visiting for the first time with my Afro-Latino partner, we couldn't help but feel overlooked and ignored by the waitstaff while others around us were promptly attended to.
