I've been coming to this bar since it first opened and for years it was one of my favorite spots -- especially because of the bowling alley. It used to have great energy, a solid food menu, and a fun atmosphere. Unfortunately, over the past year, the decline has been very noticeable. The food menu was significantly reduced and feels very limited now compared to what it used to offer. That alone was disappointing, but the biggest issue is the service -- or lack of it. On multiple recent visits, there have been several employees behind the bar (sometimes 4-5), yet no one checks on guests in the bowling area. Staff are often standing around talking to each other or playing games. During one visit, we had to physically go to the bar to ask if someone could come take our order, and we were told to wait because they were finishing a game. That was honestly shocking. Another major concern is the drink selection. This place used to have around 20 beer taps. On a recent holiday weekend, only about three were working. For a bar, especially during peak hours, that's extremely concerning and gives the impression of either poor inventory management or bigger operational issues. The space feels empty compared to how it used to be, and the staff do not seem motivated to provide even basic hospitality. It's frustrating because this location has so much potential and used to be a great neighborhood spot. At this point, I only continue going because it's the closest bowling alley nearby -- not because of the experience. I truly hope management takes a serious look at what's happening. First off Pacific Beach has difficult parking and they have paid meter parking. If you're like me though, you don't mind walking a quarter mile and driving around for 10 minutes looking for a parking spot. I came here for a Pittsburgh Steelers game, there was a really good crowd. In fact the bar was mostly full. The bartenders were friendly, but they were out of stock on quite a bit of items and it also took 40 minutes to get my french fries. The person next to me said they had to wait 50 minutes for a single order of tater tots. The biggest Takeaway here is if you're coming for drinks, most of the beers were out on draft and a lot of their liquor was out. If you're coming here for food, you're looking at a 35+ minute wait. That being said I've only experienced this on a game day. I personally don't think I will revisit this bar even though I'm a big Steelers fan. But I do think if they figure out the hold up with the kitchen and have their bar a little more stocked up this place could be much more successful and thriving. The bartenders were really trying to hold this place together as best they could. Fortunately, there are a lot of TVs, so there was no missing of any of the gameplay. They also did a raffle with prizes, that was cool. I did not win, but exciting nonetheless. Sidenote, there's also a small bowling alley in the corner. I believe there's two lanes. Don't waste your time or money. I booked a bowling lane for me and 3 others. When we arrived the waitress/front desk woman was extremely manic and all over the place. Even when there was almost no one in there. There was one party of a big group of kids overtaking 3 of the 4 lanes and even tho it says online that anyone under the age of 18 must be supervised at all times the kids were running around with free range anyway and we were shoved to a small corner because of this with little room. The lane we were put on was not feeding the bowling balls back so the staff had to come and rip up the bowling lane dividers to fix whatever was going on. When they did that it made a horrible screeching noise that had to make you cover your ears because it was so loud. Eventually they "fixed" the problem, but then moved us to a different lane because they didn't want it to get stuck again. Soon after we got switched the staff started moving tables and chairs from the stage area to literally the bowling lane right next to us like it was a storage area. We had to stop and wait for them everytime they came over because they would pass into our lane. Because of this they eventually move us back to the lane we initially started on that was sometimes working and not working. 10 mins later one of the other customers comes up to us from the stage area and starts handing us earplugs saying it's going to get really loud here soon so she wanted to give us something for our ears. We asked what was going on and she said there was a ticketed "rave" event about to start. That was the icing on the top from the complete mess this place is and we immediately left. Don't trust the online profile it makes it look like an exclusive nice place but it is just a disaster. I probably could've had a better time and better service at a Chuckee Cheeses than this place. read more

I came here on 2/21/26 for a birthday celebration. The concept is great and the place decore is alright. It seems like the service was just at the bar (no waitress). They told us the food was limited, they did not have any chicken. They could not make anything that's made with chicken. If I could give a 0 star I would. Been coming every year during a family visit and have never had such a horrible visit.The two guys working were great for what they had to deal with. Opened late. No service. Only bottle beers and hard liquor. Lane broke several times. Bathrooms smell disgusting. No food. Fruit flies everywhere. The lanes were sticky. We paid for 2 hours of bowing with shoes. The group next to us was bowling in cowboy boots and tennis shoes! No one said $#*t to them. Why am I paying full price and for shoes?!?I honestly felt so bad for the two guys working because they were busting their ass to serve us with no help while moving supplies from one bar to another. If you're not ready to open dont freaking open! Worst experience I've ever had ever. Will not coming back. I'd rather go downtown and smell the homeless pee to go bowling then ever come back here. Johnny V's! I can still see the bones of the predecessor, and those Friday nights of yesteryears will always live on in spirit. But Break Point is a completely revamped space that is bright and modern. It also happens to be a Steelers bar, so the old Bub's Steelers crowd is here nowadays. Great place to catch the Steelers game with a lively crowd and some fun extras. Large projector screen and smaller tv screens from every angle make every seat a great spot to view the game. You can purchase raffle tickets for multiple prizes at halftime. Free beer at the end if the Steelers win. DJ and photographer on site to rock the party. Food was actually pretty good bar food, but the kitchen and service are pretty inefficient. Everyone was friendly, but the execution seems sloppy. Food arrived cold, and we had to flag down someone for everything - drinks, food, napkins, utensils, plates, free beer at the end. Apparently they've been open for four years, but I would've thought it was a new place working out the kinks. Luckily we were there for a few hours watching the game, so we had time to wait. read more

However, those that ordered food were very pleased and they do give generous portions. The rental shoes are average, the available bowling bowls are ok - could be better quality but they do the job. They have 4 bowling that seem well kept. The lanes are off to the side and they have two big comfortable round booths for those who are bowling. Very convenient to chill and hangout. The rest of the space was very accommodating for your hangout needs. Booths, tables, bar, tv, and the (small) public restrooms. Would like to come back and bowl and next time eat and drink too. I'm a huge Steelers fan so I'm inclined to like like this place but I after a few tries I just can't. the service is incredibly slow-- over an hour & a half to get food & close to 30 minutes for drinks. The servers are slow as well. Between walking by w no acknowledgment to you before or after ordering and forgetting to put orders in... it's overall terrible. Unfortunately this bar hit my breaking point. I went on a Saturday evening with some friends for bowling. We chose 7 PM as we were not looking for a wild time (I know after 8 PM it becomes more lively). I had no idea whatsoever that this evening was about to turn into a literal rock concert. There is a stage with the bar area, and there were rock bands playing back to back. It was quite horrid and loud honestly. We would not have made a reservation if we had known about this extravaganza. Of course it would've helped if the bands were at least good. To drown out the noise, I wore earplugs. Not the most fashionable accessory. I wanted to order a soda but unfortunately our server did not come back to take our orders. So then I went to the bar. The service was exceptional. And by that I mean exceptionally slow. At the bar, I waited over 15 minutes (missing some of my bowling turns RIP) standing there. I understand they were busy. It was unfortunate that I witnessed for bartender spill a drink on someone's phone. I am glad that was not me. Anyways, the bartender then tells me I needed to order from my own server as I was with the bowling alley. So back at the alley, I asked the server for a soda. A long time had passed honestly, and I didn't receive my drink until I reminded my server I was still waiting for it. My bowling performance was semi-poor, I have no doubt this was due to my lack of proper hydration. Anyways, there are 4 bowling lanes total. The seating is nice. Came here for a Steelers game. It was so overpacked I wonder if it was exceeding the legal capacity. We didn't order any food as what we saw didn't look good at all. Took forever to get a drink at the bar. We were told we would have better luck getting a drink at the bar more than at our table. No one ever came to our table to take any order anyways. Seems like bad management to me. The bar was disgusting too. We heard there was a shortage of bar glasses and we literally saw them dunk what they could find in 3 different solutions and then put them back in rotation. Didn't seem sanitary at all. I don't usually leave bad reviews, but this place has one of the worst food. The food was downright awful. Yes, I get it's a bar but it doesn't mean you should neglect your food and put no effort into it. Everything we ordered was either bland, overcooked, or tasted like it had been sitting out for days. The burger we order was suppose to be "flat top" and it was far from that, the beef smelled awful and it was so bland. The calamari was covered in nothing but batter and a small piece of squid. Last, we got a jug of soda for the party and it was straight out flat. It just shows you this place doesn't care about the quality of the food or anything but wants to charge an arm and a leg. To top it off, the portions were small for the price we paid, which was outrageous given the poor quality. This place is not family friendly, do not bring your kids to bowl here. I don't usually write reviews, but we had such a horrible experience here that I must share my tale. A group of four of us came to watch the Ohio state game, as the bar advertises itself as an Ohio State bar. When we arrived, the bar was in disarray. Despite the bar being empty with 3 servers on duty, it took them 10 minutes to bring over a menu. When they finally brought a drink menu over (we'd been here for 25 minutes at this point), we tried to order a beer but were told only 3/12 taps were available. When we asked what happened, the server shrugged and said she didn't know. We proceeded to order margaritas and had to send both back because of how horrible they were. I drink pretty often, and have never sent a drink back. It tasted like they poured salt flavored tequila over ice and called it a day. Overall, horrible service and product. I heard about this place in PB that's a Buckeyes & Steelers bar. I had to go check it out. I will say they do have both team flags up outside. That's a plus to me The atmosphere is very chill & fun. It's a half bowling spot with 4 lanes, a sports bar & a venue for live music. A ton of tv's where you have no issue of watching your favorite team. A big screen TV over the stage, that would be rad to your favorite teams. Customer service is 100%, they do happy hour 4-7 & all night on Wednesday. What a great place to hang out after work or on the weekends! I decided to come to BreakPoint with some friends after work and get in some bowling and drinks! Although there's only 4 lanes, they limit the number of hours for each group that's bowling which is awesome. There's a variety of sizes for bowling balls and shoes. I wish the seating area was a little more spacious for walking since it was more of a single file situatio. The food is surprisingly good here! It made waiting for a lane to open up go by quite quickly. I had the eggplant parmesan sandwich was still very crispy and delicious with each bite. I will say their cocktails are a little disappointing. I ordered a drink and it tasted like watered down juice. Overall - staff is friendly and the food is fantastic alongside bowling. We had a work event here with about 40+ people. I must say, we were extraordinarily surprised and impressed with the quality and spread of food. We had one of the fanciest and delicious charcuterie spreads I have ever seen and a high end taco bar. All our guests kept commenting on how delicious the food was. Our server Tiffany along with all the other employees that were there were so attentive and friendly. No one ever went without a drink and dirty plates and cups were promptly taken away. Atmosphere and music were GREAT and although they don't have a designated parking lot, myself along with all our guests commented on how easy it was to find parking. This was the former spot of Johnny V's which I had visited a couple of times to watch some sporting events. The owners completely gutted the place and wow, does it look awesome now. It is much more open, spacious and bright. The first thing that catches your eye is the four bowling lanes that have been installed. What a great idea to entertain folks while eating and drinking. There are still some minor interior modifications being finished, but they have been open for a little over a week now. The full grand opening will be near the end of this month. The soft opening menu is limited at this time with four shareables, four sandwiches, three tacos, and four bowls/salads. I chose a SoCal Bowl for my lunch. On a bed of cilantro rice were the following items... black beans, sweet corn, salsa fresca, avocado, grilled chicken and cumin dressing. The ingredients were fresh and tasty. The portion size was large which matched the $15.95 price. Break Point will be the hot entertainment hub of PB with its bar/restaurant/bowling setup. I can imagine the place will be noisy on weekends especially with a DJ pumping music for the dance area in the back of the establishment. Well done on this major revamp! read more

I reserved all four lanes this past Sunday for two hours to host a 5th Grade holiday meet up.. We had such an incredible time. All eleven families in attendance had never been to Break Point, and had such a great experience. I LOVE that we introduced other families to a great establishment. Amy (manager/owner) was the best. She answered all of my pre booking questions - and even helped me with accommodations when I couldn't get my paypal account to work for reservation payment. Tiffany - our server day of - was on fire. She handled all of the orders - it was so efficient and smooth. The two over sized booths (that come with your rental) are a great place for the party to hang... TVs all around the bar showing all of Sundays football games. Overall a five star experience and we will be back! In regards to another review posted in October, I beg to differ. We were extremely welcomed and service was outstanding, regardless of having children in attendance. Our group had children ages 11 down to 5 year olds. NOT ONCE was staff upset or micromanaging of our children. If you showed up acting like this was 'Chuckee Cheese' ... then you are in the wrong - as this isn't an establishment for children to create ruckus while the adults don't parent.... Break point seemed to be a great move with full stomachs in need of burning some calories. We stopped in and to our surprise were able to secure a lane immediately. We soon found out why. We were escorted to what seemed to be a nice booth although we shared it with a few guys that were really messy. We ordered a few beers none the less and got ready to get our bowl on. We didn't get one, but the beer towers seemed like a nice addition to the bowling experience from what I could see. The beers we did order came out quickly and were your standard beers. I can't comment on food as we didn't order and here this time around. As far as the lanes go, there were a few things to note. In their defense, we were warned that the lanes get stuck from time to time. As a result, the staff has to go down and get it going again. What we didn't know was the frequency in which this would take place. It seemed like every other frame which needless to say, took away from our bowling experience. They did try to make up for it by giving us an extra 5 minutes. I'm inclined to say, it wasn't a good trade off. Overall, the inside was trendy and had the potential to be great. With that being said, the issues with the lanes makes this place miss the mark. Probably would not visit again. Kudos to the hard working staff though. read more

9/10 Steelers vs. the Niners We had such high hopes for this place, especially since our long-standing Steelers bar in the area had shut down. I was in a party of 3. We arrived at 9:15 and were lucky enough to find one of the last few seats at the bar. All the tables were occupied. 1 star for atmosphere. The place is gorgeous. Lots of TV's, although they had some technical difficulties in the first half which were ironed out by halftime. The crowd was fired up assisted by t-shirt & towel giveaways upon entrance, a DJ, & fun raffles. 1star for the bar staff. They were on top of drinks. We never had to wait long for refills. Unfortunately, that was a double-edged sword... & herein lies the problem... We couldn't get any food. The place was packed &, clearly, the kitchen couldn't handle the demand. I ordered pancakes at the start of the first quarter. My husband ordered pirogies at the beginning of the 2nd quarter & then a sausage sandwich midway into the 2nd quarter. My friend ordered chilaquiles at the end of the 2nd quarter. Midway through the 3rd quarter... I HAD NOT EVEN RECEIVED MY PANCAKES!!! Not to mention any other food that the rest of my party ordered. It had gotten to the point that we had consumed some drinks on an empty stomach & realized we had to leave in order to get something to eat. We ended up walking up the block to a brunch restaurant where we could finish watching the game (unfortunately a loss) but at least we could get something to eat. (We saw several other Steelers fans there as well who had also left looking for food.) Clearly this place was in over its head for their inaugural Steelers weekend. We'll be giving this establishment some time to smooth out the edges before giving it another shot. Sorry guys. Guess we'll be heading to Bub's downtown for a while. read more

Wish I could leave a 0 star review but only had the option for 1. Our experience was horrible here! Showed up with a party of about 9 people at around 4:55pm and happy hour ended at 5pm. We were sitting there waiting for the waitress to take our order but didn't show up until after 5pm. When we finally got our order, the waitress had an attitude with our table. After we ordered a huge plate of nachos for the table she came back with another order of nachos and said that we ordered another one when we clearly did not. The waitress then forced us into believing that we did for several minutes with a horrible attitude. Then I ordered a fried chicken sandwich but the waitress said they were out of chicken as I was stating that I wanted one and immediately directed me to have a pizza with certain toppings on it when I clearly never asked for a pizza or with certain toppings. Overall horrible experience! Bowling is great here but the food has limited options and waitress was very rude. read more

We had fun, but the place and their handling of customers is awful. We will not return. We arrived to be snubbed for 10 minutes as one of the two employees there as they opened (possibly the owner) fawned all over his daughter and their teenage friends. She seemed to work there as well (or at least went to order at the terminals whenever she and her buddies wanted food). After he got them set up, he just left out the front door and ran across the street. I was there with my three adult sons (obviously to bowl, as I had my bowling ball case in hand). After another 5 minutes, my eldest finally walked to the bar and then the bartender (nice enough guy) got us started. He gave us 15 extra minutes to get set up, etc. I thought that sounded good, at least until we started bowling. Well, the kids next to us knew nothing about bowling courtesy. This may be old school of me, but they not only did not wait for the bowler next to them when they had started, but they would also go up together (two of the girls simply could not bowl other than as a pair, giggling and jumping like 4-5 year-olds). Very distracting. Our lane failed to register many frames. My sons lost several strikes that simply did not register. There is no scorekeeping adjustments, and the lane clear button rarely worked, making us wait for long periods in between frames. One time it just went out, and did not come back for over a half hour. They switched us to the next lane after about 10 minutes, as we realized why he gave us the "extra" 15 minutes. The kids got moved off their lane as it started to get busy. They moved into the second lane in our area, and quickly demanded we move all our stuff so they could land all their trays of free food. They seemed like nice enough kids, just acted like they owned the place (and I think one of them kind of did). It was all about them, which does come off as pretty rude to the paying public. When we had like 2 frames to go and we asked - after all this mess and chaos - if we could get 5 extra minutes to finish, they said "nope, it would be another $55 for another hour." Incidentally, when we were there, the time was advertised as $35 an hour on their website ("Wednesday & Thursday 4pm-Close - $35 per hour, per lane"). But they hit us with the $55 an hour instead. I only realized this later, because the bartender said he had to "hold on to my card" while we were there! (I would have walked out at that moment if it hadn't been a once in a lifetime chance to bowl with my three adult sons). So we are done with this place. A little background before I dive in: 1)This is my first yelp review and I truly believe this establishment does not deserve business from anyone. 2) My husband and I worked in the PB restaurant/bar industry for a decade, so we know good service and restaurant etiquette. 3) We frequent several businesses in PB with our children weekly, and have had zero issues until our visit to Break Point. We came for our daughters 6th birthday. 3 families, 6 kids, ages ranging 1-6. Our server, Owen, was great. Completely on top of everything and taking care of us. Frankly, he seemed embarrassed by his management and apologized as we left. What I will take accountability for is that our one year old made it a quarter of the way down the bowling lane when we lost sight for 4 seconds. The rest of the two hours we spent there, we had an adult following her every move. Also, I did take a turn bowling in my sandals. When I was confronted about it, I apologized and stopped bowling. Other than that, the scrutiny we experienced from Amy, the manager/owner, was completely uncalled for. She clearly watched us with a critical eye the entire time, which was easy for her to do considering there were very few patrons in her restaurant. I'm an elementary school teacher and I know inappropriate behavior. Our children were fine. When we were insulted about our parenting, it was natural to be upset considering we always demand appropriate behavior. It is evident by the number of one star reviews that the owners and management of Break Point lack customer service. Additionally, it is clear to me that Amy lacks human decency and is in the wrong industry. I can say this from not only my own experience, but other locals and a former employee who says that Amy is the "most unprofessional person I have every had the displeasure of working for". Read her one star reviews and it is clear that she has to consistently make excuses for her poor behavior. Worst 260 dollars I have ever spent. Service was good. We didn't have any food. We came for the bowling because that was all we could find in the area. We will drive farther next time. 75$ for 4 people to bowl for 1 hour, and no pro rating just pay another full hour charge if you want to finish your game. I was really hoping to enjoy my visit but didn't like any of the songs the DJ played nor the way people there "danced" to them. It might have helped had they all had to wear bowling shoes - since they seem to think (copied) "steps" (and "styling") matter more than does "connection": "musicality" and moving (one's entire body, not just feet) WITH (both) the music at the moment AND a partner. Came here around 4:30 on a Wednesday. Mikey, the bartender/our server, was great. He was competent, polite and attentive just the right amount not overdoing it. 10/10. People bowling on two out of the four lanes they have. We ordered popcorn chicken and fries they were really good. Not going to lie a little salty but hey that keeps us drinking! I've always believed that great establishments deserve recognition, but to that end terrible establishments should also be called out and this place has earned my first 1-star review on Yelp. We came here for a Saturday afternoon booking for bowling to celebrate a friend's birthday, and it's still a little surprising to me how many things were able to go wrong in the course of an hour. - Bowling: The bowling scoring system was malfunctioning, which was more of an inconvenience than anything. It was not registering half the throws and regularly skipped over players. Based on the other reviews, it seems to be a reoccurring issue that ownership has not addressed. It's blamed on the 'old school technology' but we've been to multiple other bowling alleys in San Diego with the same Brunswick technology and they operate just fine. - Service: It was tediously slow to get our beers and the place was barely packed when we were there. We watched our beer tower sit on the bar counter for over 20 minutes before we got it and we ordered the second tower halfway through our reservation. We didn't receive all our cups or our beer until 5 minutes before our reservation ended, at which point we didn't want anymore as we were about to leave. The waitress ended up comping the beer tower which we thought was very nice. -Service^2: We brought in bread pudding as our birthday cake, the waitress was nice enough to bring us spoons for the table, and we sang happy birthday for the birthday boy. I had called to confirm the night before to ask if it was okay to bring in a cake for the birthday celebration. At the end of our reservation, (while we were still waiting for the beer and cups we had ordered half an hour before), the manager approached us with a scowl and informed us that "outside food was not allowed" to which we apologized and let her know that we had called ahead to check that it was okay and that we could put it away. She said "I don't know who you talked to" which has always been the worst excuse to me as a business, because businesses should take accountability for what their employees say, especially when it seems like they only have 3-4 employees in their entire establishment. Again, we apologized and told her we wouldn't have brought anything if we were told it wasn't okay in advance. The icing on top was that the other tables also had outside food with cupcakes, cakes, etc but the manager specifically singled us out. As we were gathering our stuff to move to another table to allow the next reservation to bowl in the lane, the manager approached us yet again and proceeded to take the beer tower that they had just comped and say "I need to take this as you did not pay for it." We didn't argue and we just left because at this point we just wanted to get out of there. To clarify, we did not ask for it to be comped, and while we appreciated the sentiment, it was a bit of a slap in the face to not even 5 minutes later have it confiscated from us in the middle of the bar. TDLR; This review ran on a bit longer than I intended, but overall this place was irredeemably bad in consideration of the bowling (their sole entertainment feature), their service (I hope you're not thirsty because you won't get your orders), and their bordering-hostile customer service. Given the manager's scowl and temperament, it might be better for her to find a different line of work than the service industry. She seems to have a habit of responding to her litany of terrible reviews in a way that belittles and minimizes her customers' negative experiences. We came here last night for the NCAA championship game. It was packed but fortunately we came early to score very comfortable seating for the game. Kelsi was our server and she was great. She communicated how long it would take to get our order to help manage our expectations. She recommended a Watermelon Splash cocktail which was excellent - can't taste the alcohol at all and very refreshing. We came for happy hour and the Garlic Shrimp Fundido was our fave. We also got the Fried Cauliflower, wings and loaded nachos which were excellent as well. Nice to have a comfortable place to watch games and good food in PB where the floors aren't sticky and it always smells like stale booze like some other places down the street. read more
