I have not been to their shop, just bought some of their baked goods when they were at a Pure Market in Amsterdam. The American guy was sweet, their cakes look great, and their stand was mobbed, so I was expecting greatness. Instead what I had was ok.
I literally waited 10 minutes with an impatient screaming toddler while the guys helped everyone else around me, and I watched their red velvet cake disappear and sell out in front of my eyes while my toddler was freaking out that the cake she wanted was also going to disappear because they were quickly dispersing all their baked goods to everyone but us. Finally we were helped and I had a slice of red velvet cake with goat milk frosting, since their regular red velvet cake quickly sold out, and I also had a slice of their vanilla blueberry cake. The American threw in a free cookie for my husband because he saw our child was so upset by having to wait so long, and that was his compensation to his fellow man for having to deal with us women folk, I guess. Too bad the chocolate cookie was also mediocre. It was chewy and the chocolate chips were hardly visible. I'm not sure how they did it, but it also hardly tasted like anything. I guess subdued flavors are a big hit with Dutch people, but I found it all to be bland, disappointing, and hardly worth the time, effort, or calories. read more
