Intro/Prices: First off. I have been coming here since 1999. 20 years! Let me tell you, no one…read morehas better prices on fish than Hope(owner). Not even close. Small/Medium sized Cichlids-$5.99. Global Aquatics charges $14.99. Petsmart/Petco - $12.99 and up for small Cichlids. Walmart charges $8.00 and up for super small Cichlids(it's a gamble with Walmart fishes the are often sick). Fontana Tropical Pets charges $29.99. No BS! It's a fact that this is the cheapest place! Customer Service: Hope and his Friend Al are great guys. They are always helpful, Always smiling, Always have time to give advice and ideas. I have never felt rushed or bothered in anyway. They greet my 6 year old and give him love and attention. Hope helps teach my Son a bit of Mandarin every time we come in. Al plays great music and also has plenty of fish wisdom. I refuse to go anywhere else. Fish: I recently bought about 17 fish (Cichlids/Plecostmus/Silver Dollars) for my 45 Gallon Upright Octagon tank. I also bought about 25 assorted community fish for my Son's 45 Gallon Standard tank. No fish died. I'll say that again, No fish died! When I was younger and frequenting this location my fish did not die either. Hope knows his stuff. I read other reviews stating that there are tons of dead fish. This is not true. They have to be bad customers. Every single fish place will have a few dead fish here and there. There is no getting around that. That is part of the business. Fish get stressed and often sick being transported from here to there. Hope sells healthy fish. Period! Cleanliness: Is this place filthy? No. Is it immaculate? No. Remember, this place has been here for over 20 years. The building is old. He has accumulated a lot of stuff. Two Males run this place and they get super busy helping people and taking care of stock. The cleanliness is more than OK and that is all that matters. Come to the best Fish Store around!

They…read morealways provide the best service, with kind and professional workers who makes sure the pond is kept with quality and care. Prices are also pretty fair when comparing with other competitors. They come to my home at least once a week to clean out my pump and filter. Additionally, they help remove any debris, waste, algae and sludge from my pond. Lastly, they add a few non harmful chemicals to the pond depending on the specific need. This week I started to get tons of string algae so they added Algae-off to help stop the growth. The repairs they helped with is my monthly replacement of my UV lights and random issues with the pimp. I would highly recommend using Maintain my Pond! Nick and his team will take good care of you!

PRO-TIP: Slight discount if you pay with cash!…read more A MUST for any reptile or exotics keeper in the area, especially if you own lizards! I visited here before, years ago, but this was before I kept lizards myself, and now coming back, I was delightfully surprised to see that they have upgraded immensely and modernized. Everything is super clean and sleek looking! Honestly very refreshing since, no offense, many other reptile stores are a bit more aged and cluttered. The set up of the enclosures are a delight to look at! Alright, I don't want to be a hater to the other reptile shops, but AT MOST, the fanciest thing you're going to see is MAYBE a uromastyx, but I was SO EXCITED to see the reptiles that they had here. Like, yes they have bearded dragons and geckos too, but it's not PILES of them and they have much fancier morphs. That black red monster beardie that they have is gorgeous. However, I got to see full grown, inquisitive ackie monitors, an Asian water monitor, Leachies that aren't over $1k, various tree monitors, a Baron's Racer, lovely fire skinks, Kimberly rock monitors, a Gidgee skink (NFS), etc. I have seen some of these ONLY at zoos, reptile shows, or the East Bay Vivarium in Berkeley (the oldest reptile store in the nation). So for the Basking Spot to have these species is a huge testament to the shop's dedication to the craft and hobby. I got my questions answered and I can see that the community loves shopping here. Proper husbandry and breeding practices (as you can see from the fire skinks they have, not the easiest to breed) and responsible ownership, we love to see it! ALSO, it is almost impossible for me to find wax worms, let alone silk worms in person as feeders for my lizards. Sometimes my local pet store has the wax worms and it's a hit and miss if I go to IE and can find silk worms. I GOT BOTH HERE! And the worker was nice enough to carefully pick them out so they weren't pupated yet, thank you! The shop is a bit farther for me, but I will come back 100%!!

I'm a beginner when it comes to having fish. I started with a 3 gallon tank and upgraded to a 20…read moregallon recently. This was the fourth fish store that I've visited; it's always an interesting encounter having the store work with a novice. The store is dark with neon lights upon walking in. It was quiet, empty besides one person, and slightly intimidating. I ended up walking away with 3 shubunkin goldfish. I originally came in for one, but he chuckled and explained that they had a deal on goldfish. He had so much patience and understanding. He let me pick out my fish (but to the naked eye, I'm sure they all look the same). I took my time picking out the ones with the best physical traits. He was the fishing ninja! He scooped them up swiftly and quickly! He walked me around the store and showed me snails and other goldfish he had, before ringing me up. He explained me the tank process and the benefits of snails. He explained to me the different filters and what was the most suitable for my tank. He also asked how I acclimate my fish, then explained the proper way to do so. Honestly, I needed more support and explanations than the average customer, and I was a bit taken aback by the guy in the store. I realized that it's just completely his demeanor, and he wasn't trying to be unhelpful. If you're willing to care for his fish, he will explain and help you! I told him I'd be back for some more snails. My picture is my fish about 6 weeks later. :)
