The airport staff are solid. The employees at the front area who helped my check in my bag were friendly and conversational. At the gate things were clean, and the gate employees kept the line of passengers who were checking their bags moving. Boarding the plane went smoothly. As for the flight, the Portland crew was professional and efficient with snack and drink service. The pilots flew us smoothly 95% off the time, only hitting a little turbulence. Overall, I found this branch of American Airlines to be solid. read more

Been an AAdantage member for so long that the fact that they have my old email address is the problem. I can't change my contact info because validations go to an email address I can't access anymore, or they say my new email address already has an account--which apparently is not linked to my AAdvantage account. I tried calling a customer service # which was just one computer-generated sales pitch after another. Then, I started over--ditching all of my accumulated points to start over using my wife's email address--They provided the new account number on screen on their site and ONLY the password to her email, so when I clicked "Log In" on site, the account number is now forever lost, so I've ended up with no miles, no way to access my old account, or my wife's new one. Good thing there are plenty of airline choices, because we are DONE with AA. read more

This was my first time flaying with American Airlines. I was lucky enough to get a decent deal on first/business class seats to and from Puerto Rico. This was our incoming flight home to Portland. Overall we had a good flights. The food was t horrible for airline food, I enjoyed the dessert a hot fudge sundae! The seats were not very comfy, so padding at all. I wish airlines would focus a little more comfort. In addition it seemed as if non of the surfaces were wiped down :( come on Covid and other germs are all around us and you can't take the time to wipe down a few surfaces?! I did like how many little trays were available in first class seating. We were easily able to set all our drinks, electronics and foods on the trays available. I'd I could give half stars I'm at a sold 3.5. Usually I will round up if I'm at a half star, but I just don't think I can quite give this a 4 star rating hence the street stars above. I would definitely fly American Airlines again, especially in their business/first class seats. read more

Dear AA, Before the latest incident, I was a fan of AA. I have the American Airlines credit card, earned status, but now I am doing everything to fly Alaska as the customer services is far superior. AA damaged my almost new luggage. When it arrived, one of the wheels had been torn off. File ID: PDXAA91483921. 1. Customer Service Counter (Airport) - I reported the damage to the counter near the baggage claim (PDX Airport, Carousal 7.) They could not take the damage claim and insisted I fill out the claim online. I did. 2. Denial From No-Reply Email with No Number - Within 12 hours, AA denied the claim stating: "Though we try to be as careful as possible during transport, we don't cover minor scratches, stains, dents, cuts or dirt from normal wear and tear, missing zipper tabs, and damage caused by overpacking, which can be expected with checked items. Please view our Conditions of Carriage for details. If you'd like to have your checked items looked at again, visit the nearest airport Baggage Service Office along with your File incident number and bags. Keep in mind, you must have your item looked at again within the next 2 days or we won't be able to reopen your file." 3. No Direct Line/Automatic Cut-Off/False Information. There is no direct line to get to the baggage service, there is no direct email, so the only way to reach someone is by calling the 1800 reservation line. Also, do not actually state you are calling about a baggage claim as the automated person will tell you to check online and then disconnects you. The person that answered was very unhelpful and insisted that a broken wheel must be wear and tear. The call then got transferred to Golden Airlines (yes, he did this on purpose). The second call to the customer services rep stated that I had to drive to the airport. NOTE: Plan to wait anywhere from 45 to over two hours to get a rep on the phone. 4. Drove to the Airport. Per the email, I drove to the airport. AA at the airport insisted that the email was incorrect and that I had to call the 1800 number. When I showed them the email, they said someone else complained about it and that "Dallas" should fix the email. So, again, AA has completely wasted my time Ironically, if it had not been for the horrific customer service, the failure to provide a direct number, an email, or providing false information about going to the airport, I would have moved on. AA - Check your bag damage policy, make it easier for people to actually reach someone, and do NOT tell people to drive to the airport as the persons at the airport will claim they have can't do anything. I had the worst "welcome" from the ticket agent. Never one time was she respectful. Everything was a short answer and a bit condescending. I literally flew more than 100,000 miles last year and she was instructing me like it was my first time in an airport. I hadn't been on American in a couple of years and was surprised at how unpleasant the experience was. The flight was nearly 4 hours and they provide no video, only an unsecured usb port. In addition, not only do the seats seem closer together, but the armrest are extremely uncomfortable. They are narrow and hard. Previously I flew from London to New York and neither the video or audio worked. The American spokesman said these are free amenities and I shouldn't receive compensation for things not working. Worst Airlines I have ever flown. Constant delays causing missed flight and having to spend the night. From what the hotel was telling us, this is a regular occurance. A shuttle driver told us he thinks they leave a plane on the tarmac long enough to force passengers to miss connecting flights. Then they can cancel that flight and save money. I don't know if that is true. We were given another flight the next morning at 5 am. We were given random seats all over the plane. Couldn't sit next to our partners. A family even had their 8 year old child given a seat next to strangers. The ticket agent in Philadelphia was rude about the whole thing and uncooperative. Never again for that airline. read more

Walk up to ask for help about a flight in a few hours immediately greeted by a woman who says "I'm not working that flight" Give me a chance to ask a question first before giving me attitude. They all assured me I would have no problem. Well I sure did and I missed it, stuck in DFW. Customer service was no help, I ended up standing in line twice and demanded different options since I saw one flight was available but the first guy didn't even mention it. Now my second experience... I am currently still sitting on the plane at the gate and it has been 2.5+ hours. They said there was a "rip in the carpet and would be 20min-1.5 hours for maintenance to come and fix it". Absolutely 0 compensation, just "they'll rebook your connecting flight automatically". This is absolutely ridiculous, I have never missed a connecting flight in my life and the two times I fly AA I miss mine. We got married on Saturday and was scheduled to honeymoon in Jamaica. And we are missing a whole day, on a trip that has cost over $3,000 in total. The flight was originally supposed to leave on Monday, 06/12/23 at 10pm. After the flight getting delayed and a gate change. The flight got canceled as we started boarding. The representatives shared that it was a call made by dispatch, and the higher-ups (This was also NOT due to weather) We were the 4th people in line and waited for about an hour and a half. I could tell that the representatives were doing their best, and was honestly as helpful as theI could be given the circumstances. We are missing a whole day, and is having a horrible snowball effect as it comes to the logistics of our scheduled plans. This is ending up costing us more money. We are still in the process of figuring out logistics over the past 4 hours as of this morning. From the conversations with American Airlines representatives from last night, American Airlines will be providing us a hotel stay for our connecting flight (the next flight to Montego Bay, isn't until the following morning). On June 30th my family had a 3 hr layover in DFW. You guys proceeded to change the gate right before boarding then we board another plane just to sit there for an hour without communication. We were lied to and told the pilot hit the parking break between flights and we may not take off. After more time we are forced to deplane and wait for hours for a new crew. At 1:45am 7/1 we finally had a new crew, but one flight attendant decided they weren't flying now. So we literally watched her walk out! By 2am all customer service agents walked out too, so we had nowhere to sleep or go. By 3am 2 agents showed up to help and we got connected with tickets for United and Alaskan airlines. When we went to get our bags we waited 3 hours and didn't get them. At 6am I called customer service and spoke with Joan, who informed me that the agent at 2am didn't reserve the other 2 flights and the soonest departing flight would be at 7pm. I was upset, tired, hungry, and dissatisfied with everything so Joan transferred me to a supervisor, Trish, that was able to secure the flights and we would have our bags transferred. The lack of communication, safety concerns for your flight crew, and inabilities to handle a high pressure situation from such a large company is disturbing. We did not arrive home in Portland until 7/1 3:30pm. I have no plans to fly with them again! read more

First of all, the majority of American employees are very good. They were courteous and good at their jobs. Everytime I had to chat with American regarding my hellish travel issues, the customer service person was promt and courteous even if they could not help me. It wasn't their fault anyway. American canceled and or changed flights right from under us and did not tell us. We had a red eye to Charlotte NC that was supposed to leave PDX at 10pm. It was changed to 1:45 pm the same day! We had to panic pack, call in a friend to drive us, pull our kids out of school early. Because we booked through expedia, American pointed fingers at them and expedia pointed fingers right back. Then, THEN we had no flight home from Charlotte to PDX on our return. Again, I had to figure this out myself. Also, getting back to the states from Turks was a logistical nightmare using Americans app and the terrible TERRIBLE VeriFLY. What a joke. First of all, 2 apps to sumit my docs to fly home really?!? Plus, they never successfully took our covid tests so I was up all night worrying about our flight the next day. It took almost 2 days of worry from my dream vacation. You know how you know you've had a bad travel experience with your airline? When your confirmation # JKDYIF is etched on the back your eyeballs. I will remember it until I die, thanks for nothing. Was I crammed into a small plane with scant leg room, that ended up so far from the terminal at LAX that it was a humorously, absurdly long trek to get to baggage claim? Sure. But. My flight attendants were awesome. These are the unsung heroes... I'm always amazed. I was on AA flight 6056 PDX to LAX, leaving at 6am. Flying makes me pretty anxious; and my flight attendant gave me some liquid courage that loosened me up, so I wasn't clinching the chair arms. We recently flew from Portland, Oregon to Alexandria, Louisiana on American Airlines in a Airbus 321. A very large plane with little creature comforts to say the least. The airline staff were polite and friendly. But the plane was designed to pack in the maximum number of passengers possible with little thought of leg room. And then the seats allowed rude passengers to tip the seats back into your lap. This is a poorly designed idea that cuts off circulation to your legs. Now I understand that the airline executives need to make a profit, but this is cruel and unnecessary punishment for the customers. Then they offered WiFi but charged for it. Then if God forbid need to check a bag, the charges continue to climb. All the while they bombard you with commercials about their credit card to get more of your money. What does say about corporate ethics and outright greed. They suckered us in with a so called low price, before all upcharge fees. read more

So... In June I had booked travel with my airline mile for American Airlines for a trip to Orlando from Portland in December. I canceled the trip ahead of time because of the small fact that I was unemployed and didn't think taking a vacation that would cost me several thousand dollars (hotels, Disney tickets, food, car rental, etc,) at that the time was fiscally responsible. I had purchased "Insurance" for the ticket. But, apparently American Airlines wants to charge $150 per a ticket to "reinstate" my miles. Keep in mind we're talking four tickets because there were layovers on each trip. But the "insurance" is maintained by a third party company, that does not cover reinstating miles. Which was not in the fine print when I purchased it. So I'm now out 150,000 miles that I earned over dozens of trips. Or have to pay $600 that I simply don't have to get the miles back. Which means, next time I fly, I will be thinking long and hard about ever using American Airlines ever again. read more
