I normally really like my whole experience with American Airlines and try to fly with them whenever possible. Today at the ticket counter the lady that accepted my bag was so extremely rude to me. She didn't even look me in the eye or speak to me. Why is she working at the ticket counter if she hates her job so much. I tried to talk to her, wish her a Merry Christmas and even ask if she was okay. There was no response. Just ranting a little. I don't ask for much but I do expect to be treated nice when I am checking my bags. I was one pound over so I give her an extra star for not making a big deal about that but I think it's because I am flying FC. read more

It's sad I use to fly American all the time. Was even AA advantage member. This is by far the worst Airline. I try to avoid them as much as possible. 3 times this year I had limited options. 3 times my flight were canceled. Not delayed flat out canceled. Today I had a 6am flight out of a Memphis. Last night they canceled the flight. Then they rebooked me on a 552pm flight. Whole day wasted. Now in true American fashion that flight is delayed. Another American flight that won't get me home today. Sad read more

On June 1st, I accompanied my blind, critically ill father to his mother's funeral, traveling from Dallas to Tennessee. He was supposed to stay in Tennessee for a few weeks, so I booked a flight for my mother and me to return to Dallas. I chose American Airlines for their early flight, even though I usually prefer Southwest or Delta. I paid extra for seats together to give my mom, who was on her second flight, a window seat and to avoid a middle seat passenger if possible. Our first flight was canceled, which turned out to be a blessing because my father had a medical emergency and needed to return with us. However, when American Airlines rescheduled our flight, they separated my mother and me, despite paying extra for seating preferences. I hoped my father could sit next to one of us since he needs support. I scheduled wheelchair assistance for my father but received no help getting him from ticketing to TSA or the gate. I had to use a Delta wheelchair (thanks to Delta) and push him myself. At the gate, I asked if we could get seats together due to the cancellation. The agent said no but offered an earlier flight, which we accepted despite the delay. Ten minutes later, this flight was also canceled. The agent then rescheduled us for a 7 PM flight, moving us from our original 5 AM departure. Again, no assistance was provided to move my father. A Southwest employee kindly helped us get to the next gate. When I called American Airlines, the customer service representative was unhelpful and told me to be grateful for the 7 PM flight. Shortly after, our 7 PM flight was delayed to 8:13 PM with another gate change, and again, no American Airlines reps were available to assist. My father missed two emergency dialysis appointments due to these delays, putting his health at serious risk. If this flight gets canceled, I will need to take him to a local hospital, incurring additional costs. This has been the worst flight experience in my 41 years of flying. The lack of support, empathy, and proper customer service from American Airlines is appalling. This situation put my father's life in jeopardy, and the airline showed no remorse or effort to assist us. **Pictures included for emphasis, not to exploit. We are grieving and dealing with a medical emergency alongside poor customer service, and I am very upset.** --- I will update soon if we do not get on our flight and if incur additional charges. 2 minutes after this review had another gate change. Time still 8:13. Update: 10:09 Flight has been cancelled and rebooked MULTIPLE times. Gate has been moved multiple times from 4,6,19 and back again MULTIPLE times. 2 Southwest Flights and 2 AA flights flew out.Still have not received any help with transporting my dad back and forth and last person totally removed from the reservation. They are now saying it is cancelled and they are rebooking me tomorrow 5:58 PM. My first original flight was at 5ish this morning. I have no clue where my luggage is....Will add more pics and update later. Also posting on their Facebook via comments. Oh and the hold time on the phone is between 4-8 hours for my reservation and if I opt out I get moved to end of phone line. read more

Vender tech problems on Christmas eve, turned into cancelled flights the day after and delayed flights the following day causing missed connections. This company is poorly run, then when you call it to get help they have terrible attitudes and treat customers poorly. I can't imaging working for a loser like #American Airlines, must be demoralizing to be with such a poor performing company. Steer away from them at all costs if your travel depends on being on time and you believe in being appreciated as a customer! read more

This is the second time I have paid 500.00 to receive a non stop flight from Az to Memphis round trip and American airline has failed to provide the service offered. The first time it was three hr delay and I attempted to ne understanding. Today, I do not hold the same sentiment. I lost holiday wages at work, had to find extra childcare and lost rental car money. The flight 1182 was scheduled to leave at 8 am this morning and it is now 9:34 pm. We have been give 12.00 vouchers for entire day for food and are now being told the flight will come at 1 am .but shortly bfre this time was given we were told 7 am. I have had an issue reaching the relations team for the last 17 hours and have bn given run around. American Airlines are robbing their customers, not compensating them nor assisting with any inconveniences. read more

I wish I could give this shitty airline a zero. I've waited since 8:40 am to 5:35 pm to get on the plane. They have lied over and over again about the departure time and the staff doesn't seem to care about the shitty job they're doing I hate everything about this airline. read more

Customer service is awful. Getting help to book a different flight was like pulling teeth. Painful. You have to remain calm when talking to them. I will not fly American again. I gave them 1 star because I did make destination 7 hours later. read more

I did not have a problem. Both of my flights were on time. Boarding process was easy. Gate had a good amount of seats. Flight attendants did not ask passengers if they wanted something to drink. There were no snacks on the flight. read more

Can I give a 0? Flight delayed out of ABL first said mechanical issues after an hour plus. Oops sorry paperwork Sanfu. Missed DFW connection. AA did give voucher for Hyatt hotel, cab and meal but all the way downtown. There's one here in the airport and wouldn't have to get up at 3:30 AM to get back to airport. Would have saved cab fare and room rates about the same. Penny wise dollar foolish. That PPP money has gone to their heads. Sadly I'm afraid flying is no longer but an ordeal we must endure. read more

So my flight was canceled twice, making me a day late, then after airport hell and switching gates over 8 times they delayed the flight again. Made me pay again to check luggage I've already paid for because of the cancellation even though I had the ticket in hand where it was paid. They cause me to miss my flight in Dallas and sitting here in limbo with no explanation! Would have given no stars if possible! read more

I just had the BEST customer service experience with a customer service agent named Laura!! I'm hoping this gets noticed by American Airlines and she gets the recognition she deserves! After 13 weeks of CRAZY Business Travel (September to December) in eastern OH, Up-state NY, Western/Central PA and dealing with Cold, Snow and Ice I had promised "THE" Girlfriend (My Wife) a New Year's Get-Away in Las Vegas. On December 29th, we had an evening flight from Memphis to Charlotte to Las Vegas. Our connection in Charlotte had only a one hour layover. At check-in, the flight to Charlotte showed delayed, so it was unlikely we would make that connection and probably would have had to overnight in the Charlotte Airport. We checked-in our bags at the Kiosk and went to the Bag Drop Desk. THANK GOD, we had a Ticketing Agent who saw the delay and immediately started checking on how she could get us to Las Vegas on time. She must been experienced, because in little time she had us on a flight from Memphis to Dallas to Las Vegas; and with good Economy seats. She also made sure our luggage was re-tagged and it did arrived in Vegas with us. As a Road Warrior, for more than 30 years, I know this Ticketing Agent (wish I had recorded her name) provided some of the BEST Customer Service I have experienced with Flight Connection Issues. read more

The worst experience ever. They delayed their flights for an hour, which meant that everyone missed their connecting flights. Even worse, everyone waited about 45 minutes to check in, because there was one person working. The largest airline in the world can't staff their check-in line with more people? Connie at the gate was very sweet and helpful, and I appreciated her, so one star for her. But this airline caused me much grief, sorrow, and anxiety today. read more

@AmericanAirlines This not a good airline at all! I have been here since 7am for a flight from Memphis to Cincinnati with a stop in NC. The first problem was a gas leak on the first plane. So the airline change the flight to leave @4pm with out announcing anything to passengers. Then they canceled the entire flight for the next morning @7am without announcing anything. I was able to get a flight to NY to get to Cincinnati but now the flight is still late from leaving Memphis. They placed everyone in their seats and with thru the protocol. And then the pilot says there was a change that we will have to sit on the runway for another 45mins-hour before we depart to NY. I will probably miss my connecting flight now and have to wait again to get another flight to Cincinnati. Major issues with the plugs on the plane. No Wi-Fi!! My tray let's down but it it broken. I am not able to even put my laptop or snacks & drink on it without it falling over. Seat are dirty. Major updates needs to be done within this airline and it customer service. FYI full flight!! #inerdarefund #Freeflight #freehotel #badservice #americanairlines #trainyour #staff read more

These two stars are one for Connie and one for Robert. I want to give each one of them 5 stars each for how they handled the delays on our flight. As I sit here waiting for my flight to leave the time of departure keeps being pushed back. We're now at a 2 hour delay and it's not over yet. We are missing our connecting flight in Phoenix so they're putting us up in a hotel. It's so frustrating when you realize that every time you fly AA it's one delay after another. read more

Flight delayed because they don't have pilots/crew to for the airplane. Missed connection won't get to the resort until later tonight. Absolutely insane. Do not fly unless you love being late. Zero stars actually ignore the 1. read more

American Airlines is quite easily the worst airline in the industry. And the Memphis staff definitely help with that. They are very rude every time I fly through the Memphis airport. The gate agents will stand there talking to each other instead of hooking a jet bridge up to a parked airplane that has been turned off and has no air conditioning in the middle of the summer. Not only is this cruel and unusual punishment it deserves FAA involvement. read more

Let me start by saying do your homework so you can challenge the folks at the checkin counter. During these COVID times entry requirements abroad are constantly changing. AA's website is not in the least bit accurate, even though they told me they update it every day. Their website didn't reflect the latest changes to the entry requirement of the country we were traveling to (more than two months old), nor did it list any of the exceptions to country's covid testing rules. Really horrible because we fell into these exceptions. Check-in counter was like nope we go by the AA website. I have written to AA before our flight to try and get them to update and correct their website. They did eventually but they were slow at doing so. So if at all possible try to contact them (by email is the what I did) well before your flight so you won't have to argue with the check-in counter and risk missing your flight. Dreadful experience. Reasoning with them is so difficult. They actually calculated the timeframe wrong for which we needed to take our covid test to board. They said it was too early. Reasoning with them was really taxing. A whole lot of "nuh uh" and "no". Also your bags need to be exactly 50 lbs internationally. They're super strict and made us shuffle things from one bag to another because we were slightly over on one bag (even though a couple other bags we had were both only 30 lbs). Also if you're thinking about connecting to either Dallas or Chicago, I'd choose Dallas next time. Chicago has a lot of delays and cancellations due to thunderstorms in the summer. Also if you're traveling internationally you must leave the domestic terminals and shuttle to the international terminal and go through security again (air side transport not working these days) and possibly checkin again and get boarding passes (if your connection is longer than 4 hours) which is a big hassle. We had to do that even though AA was code share partners with the international airlines that we had booked our entire trip through. When we went through Dallas we didn't have to do all that. But they did check our bags all the way through to our final destination which was good because shlepping that to the international terminal would've been a real hassle. read more

If I could leave a nastier review, I would. Started with missing a day of our honeymoon due to maintenance issues. The flight was delayed by well over four hours. I understand these things do happen. However, we were told absolutely nothing. No updates, no answers, no help unless you waited in a line for over an hour. Our only update was being sent to another gate and those of us waiting in line being told they could not help us and walking away. Every flight we had using this airline was delayed over a week long trip. It culminated with arriving home (well past midnight after another delayed flight- our original arrival time was 7 pm) with no bags as they had been left in the previous city. We were told they could not deliver our bags as we do not live in the city we arrived in and offered no further help. We did not meet a single helpful or even pleasant person on our whole journey that worked for American Airlines. Now we are headed home at midnight not having eaten since noon as we took two flights through dinner that were delayed and did not offer anything other than pretzels. I beg you, please book anywhere other than this airline. Walk if you have to. read more

I mean seriously, could anyone have a nice thing to say? Their biggest failing as an airlines is that fact that are so ridged with their policies that any slight change and ur $200 deep at least, then the difference of airfare. I literally cannot think of a nice word to say about their policies and procedures I wish itihad and asiana was here read more

Ugh.... The absolute worse! The standard for this airline is just sub par. No sense of empathy for customers. The lines for customer service is long and the employees have no clue about how to talk and treat passengers dealing with delays. The system couldn't even catch up to see that I had landed and my connecting flight was delayed but the system bumped me off the flight so I had a 7 hr layover in a place my flight got rerouted to. The attendant spoke to me with such disdain and incompetency. You guys should be ashamed. You will never get my money... luckily the organization bringing me paid for it. Even after waiting over an hour to speak to representative on the phone they could not even oblige some type of compensation. He actually told me to stand in the line and speak to customer service... wTH.... Why are you answering the phone then????.... I mean I have miles with you guys and I don't care to use them. Just tacky with no class. I wish I could give you a big fat zero. read more

Worst flight of my life! Made us sit on the pain for two hours before boarding with no ETA, everyone would have been much happier sitting in the airport rather then games up next to a stranger on the plain. Extremely rude staff that would not answer a direct question and was extremely patronizing.Never ever flying with them again. We went with American cause it was affordable but in no way worth the price. Better to spend a tiny bit more for a much more pleasant flying experience. read more

If ever there was a time for a rebranding... I guess it's now since it's happening. The whole point of rebranding is to change processes and attitudes and come out a newer better company. They've changed their livery but retained all their surly and unhelpful staff though. Such a shame. Been flying AA since 1996. Don't even care to use my large accumulation of AA miles anymore. Words can't explain how awful the airline is. I've had issues on the way in and out. I don't know if I have ever felt this type of anger. Last night our flights were pushed back several times and then this dumb airline proceeded to tell us the next time we could actually leave was going to be SUNDAY. It is currently Thursday. Obviously you can tell this is a problem. The best they could do was say sorry. I will never consider using this airline every again. I have always flown southwest and will continue doing that. Every other airline is better than this airline, end of discussion. That is including spirit. I am distraught about the atrocities that we have experienced in the same week from the worthless airline. read more

I spoke to a representative about changing my flight. I called to change and she said it would be $209. I told her I would call her back to make sure that was ok with my aunt. I will never fly this airline again. Thanks for caring about your customers!!! read more

So American Airlines Memphis intl has completely made up for Chicago! It was super packed in the ticketing area and all of the attendants were working as best as they could ...... which isn't bad except they were so packed that they had no one walking the floor initially and I missed my flight little did I know that lead to me meeting someone great! Yvette C Love she was the angel that worked that day. She pulled me ahead of everyone and worked to not only get my flights situated within the states but also called my connecting flights in Europe and made sure everything was good on that end. Well now that I have flown with American, I must say...they're pretty decent. I was upgraded to first class flying from MEM to CLT but then got delayed at Charlotte going to London Heathrow. Their long haul economy service is standard but their movie selection is AMAZING!! All Star Wats movies!! Not outstanding flight crews like Delta (though the pilot on my flight from London to Dallas gave us the smoothest landing ever) or exceptional service like British Airways but they were good at getting you from point A to B on time (for the most part) which is the most important part of an airline. Not the best but certainly not the worst. I would fly with American again if need be. read more

Marginally better than Frontier. Second time they changed my schedule drastically a few weeks after I made reservation. I should have learned my lesson the first time.
