I had an amazing experience overall with Southern Airways Express and would most definitely choose to fly and use their services again. I flew from Dallas Fort Worth to Southern Regional Arkansas and the service was fantastic the entire way through. I was greeted by amazing staff like Shawonna and she went above and beyond with customer service, friendliness, & overall help navigating through. She even personally helped me set up a car service car to get to where I needed to be in such a fast time! She made the final stop in my destination very pleasant and delivered such amazing and personal service it made traveling just that much better for me. I have used this airline in Nashville and Memphis. They are flown in good weather and not so good weather and I have not had any issues. Yes, prepare yourself for a 9 seat airplane, but the windows are large and you don't fly much more than 6000' high so the views are always good. Many people are expecting the services you would find on a major airline. Keep in mind this is a very low cost regional Carrier with small airplanes. They are not going to recover from mechanical and weather related issues in the same way that the big boys are going to do. The FBO where they operate from in Nashville is quite nice and a good place to sit and work or relax while you wait for the flight. The Memphis location is a little tired but certainly sufficient and much better than sitting in the main terminal. All in all this is a pretty good way to go read more

Checked to see when the flight I canceled actually landed and it was 11:30pm! More than 12hrs late. Buyer beware!!!

I was so excited to hear about flights out of Hot Springs to DFW 3 times a day, so I made reservations on Southern Airways to travel to Dallas this weekend for business 3 weeks ago. I received a call at 10 tonight telling me my flight had been cancelled and there wasn't any flights tomorrow and that my only choice was to fly out Saturday morning at 9:45. The problem with that is that I have appointments starting at 9:00 and going throughout the day Saturday. Then the customer service agent tells me it will be 7-10 days before they process my refund! So now I will have to drive to Dallas not fly. Not very impressed with this airline at this point. read more

Beware of this airline. They canceled my flight after I was already at the airport...in checking their performance I found they had canceled it 3 days in a row to that point. The weather was beautiful so there was no excuse other than not wanting to fly...I assume it was a nearly empty flight. When I called to cancel my car rental the agent said "this happens all the time." Luckily I was on my way there...had it happened on the way back I would have been stuck. Keep that in mind before booking with them! And then there is this....after hours on the phone they finally say they will refund my money. It has been two weeks now and still no refund. I am writing about my horrible experience with this " Airline" if thats what you want to call it. First off my flight was 45 min late to start the airplain looked like it was built at Wal Mart the whole plane was dirty and old.At this time the flight was started I have never felt so in fear for my life as I had on this trip the plane rocked and rolled jumped up and down at times we were thrown out of our seats which by the way were small. The flight took longer then stated my family waited more then a hour for my arrival. I had a return flight 5 days later which in no way was I going to use but even if I had wanted to it was canceled I then was forced to Rent a car at a very high price due to it being one way.My life is far more important then risking flying this airline EVER AGAIN !!! read more

I have flown this airline multiple times, each time hoping for a better experience. Every time, I am delayed or my flight is canceled. Today, the plane is unable to fly because it lacks the proper paper charts required for it to fly legally in the U.S. This is the last straw! I have flown this airlines a few times, mainly because it provides me with a direct short flight to Destin, Florida where we have a vacation home. The actual flight has always been great, which is why I give them at least one star. Unfortunately, their flight scheduling, rescheduling and cancelling creates major problems with coordinating a trip. Their scheduling changes and cancellations have actually cost me money. And don't try to talk to someone about your issues. Customer service is very limited. Their concept is great, but I wish they could get their organizational act together. I am hoping!!! read more

Simply awful! One big cluster f---!!! Was supposed to leave at 12:20 pm, as of 1:19 no one knew what was going on. Pilots all gathered at check-in desk, staff stressed and befuddled. However, I was then contacted by the owner who remedied the situation and explained the changes he's instituting to avoid similar situations in the future. The personal outreach is a great testament to their belief in customer service, and I appreciate him turning my feedback into consideration to better serve others. The owner is a class act and truly cares about your experience. I will be giving them a second chance after all! _________________________________________________________________________ If I could leave zero stars I would. I took a 1-stop, round trip flight from Pittsburgh to Washington Dulles stopping in Hagerstown, MD. The trip down was lovely. I was treated very well and it was a smooth trip. However, my flight home never happened. I arrived at the kiosk 1 hour early, as is company policy, but there was no one there to check me in (they do not have online check-in or kiosks at the airport). I called the number at the desk multiple times and left messages. Finally, I called customer service only to be told that if there is no one at the desk to check me in and print my boarding pass, I had not way to get to the gate and essentially would miss my flight. I ended up having to pay $400 for a one ticket to get home. read more

Absolutely the WORST customer service EVER. I cannot convey strongly enough how disgusting "Susan" spoke to me. She was very condescending, dismissive and over talked me. She even went as far as to blame me for calling them. Susan, the CEO, Manager said that I was harassing them by calling too much. That as far as she was concerned, my issue with the airline was already resolved because they offered a voucher, (Which was not acceptable that's why I was calling). She continued to say because I was not the passenger on the flight that she doesn't need to speak with me. Why should that even matter? It took Southern Airlines over 2 months to resolve a "lost/delayed baggage" claim for $149.00. Whether it was American Airlines, Southern or Mokulele Airlines fault, it's not the passengers' job to tell you the policy, ITS YOUR JOB to get it right. During my telephone call with Susan she consistently used phrases as "I don't need to talk to you", "It's not our fault" "We are not responsible" "We offered a voucher as a courtesy". When I informed Susan that the only reason, I called them in the first place was because American Airlines sent an email stating that all claims must go through the final carrier. She acted as if I was lying and asked me to send her that information. I immediately emailed that information and when I tried to call back to make sure that Susan received the email, my telephone number had been blocked. What?? Where they do this at?? By this point I was livid with the utterly appalling customer service Susan provided. I caution anyone flying on Southern Airline to take heed if you encounter any problems whatsoever and need to call customer service BEWARE. I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. read more

I have been flying this airline from DFW to Harrison Ark. for 2 years. Pilots are great, easy to wok with. I fly back and forth at least 3 weeks out of the month. Leave on time, arrive on time. I wish they would stick to their schedule... That is, if your not there 30 minutes before the flight, then you don't fly. Many people think they can come through the door 10 minutes before take off and still fly. I have seen that go both ways. Be consistent. read more

On December 27 2017 my wife and I flew from Lancaster Pa to Pittsburgh. The aircraft had no heat. It was bitter cold, the windows were frosted over and believe me it was cold. There were (5) other passengers on board and everyone was freezing. I can't believe that you would allow people to fly under those conditions. read more

Have flown with SAE from Dallas to El Dorado Arkansas twice, two weeks apart... It is a six hour drive from my house to my location in El Dorado so I saved a bunch of time. These guys have done a great job. Been on two round trips.. Pilots were great. We left early yesterday because all that were booked was there 30 minutes early so we left. I'm sure they'll be some problems from time to time as this is a commuter airline and not one of the big guys. For the price, I'll take my chances that things will go well. I certainly would recommend this flight and the airline. I have read some of the other reviews that stated some problems. Please try again. I was excited to learn about this airline because they are currently the only one to offer direct flights between Hagerstown, MD, and Pittsburgh, PA. Unfortunately, we've been disappointed 2 out of 2 tries. The first flight, (Jan 6, 2017,) we were called the night before notifying us that the 12:05pm flight the following day had been cancelled. And today, the same flight is delayed by an hour (so far.) There were not weather issues in either location on either date. My experience thus far is that this airline, (or this particular flight, at least,) is unreliable, and despite a really good price and it being the only direct flight, it's not worth the risk of not getting to where you need to be. read more

Have used (or tried to use) this airline several times (~10) between Jamestown, NY and Pittsburgh, PA in the last year. In half the attempts the flights were just cancelled, so I had to drive. In other cases it was delayed several hours. Twice it has been on time, well at least within ~1 hour of scheduled time. The reliability is horrible, you can't trust them for transportation for work or pleasure (unless you don't mind being late by a day or two). The thought of using them to make a connecting flight is just foolish. If you are traveling between these two destinations, forget this airline, just plan to drive, you will probably end of doing so anyway. read more

Your flight will undoubtedly be pushed up/back or delayed (to the next day) if you make the mistake of flying with this airline. I've used this airline several times over the years, and more than not the above has happen. Today they pushed my flight that is 1 1/2 weeks away UP an hour due to so called 'operations issues'. I was already using voucher for this flight that was from a previous Southern flight that was completely cancelled. In a nutshell, save yourself some trouble and stress, and DO NOT use this airline. You will find out the hard way how INCOMPETENT this airline is if you choose to book with them. This is the most unprofessional airline we have ever dealt with. After booking a flight, our family was left stranded at the airport and unable to reach anyone to find out the problem. Complete incompetence. I traveled with a colleague from Dulles to Morgantown. Three issues arose: 1. My colleague's return flight was canceled and she was never notified. 2. When I went to check in for my return flight, I was told that I was not on the boarding list. It took 30 minutes to get me added to the list even though I had my confirmation. When I asked for an explanation the man at the ticket counter shared: "They're crazy [the customer service]. This happens all the time." 3. We could not find the ticket counter at Dulles, and no one we asked knew where it was. This could easily be resolved by adding info about how to find the counter to the airline website. I do not know what type of morals and ethics this company has but they tried to switch my flight for a shuttle that would take 3 times longer for the same amount of money, when you can clearly take a bus for a fraction of the price but they did not want to work with me. I'm only giving this company 2 stars because they actually got me to my destination safely. HOWEVER, it was not without difficulty and inconvenience which was no fault of mine. I arrived at IAD on a connecting flight with 1:15 mins transit time for my 12:25 pm Southern Airways Exp departure for MGW. I had plenty of time to get to their remote end of the terminal and since it was 11:45 am, I came to the gate but there was no agent in sight, so I went to the Subway eatery right next to gate to get a sandwich. After eating, @ 12:05 I returned to the gate (40 ft) away, and still no agent or other passengers, so I waited. Finally at 12:25 which was the scheduled departure time, I decided to call their customer service phone # for update on the flight. After being on hold with them for 25 mins, I was told that the flight had departed 1/2 hour early ( 12:00 pm) and that the agent hadn't seen any passengers so he closed the flight!! I was livid because their policy clearly states that check-in time is no later than 20 mins before departure. I was there well before that cutoff time, and even as a confirmed book passenger, they didn't bother to page me or anything! They offered me a rental car supplement, but then retracted that after I spoke with 2 company representatives. Very very unprofessional. This company operates on its on schedule and because of their low fares, they treat customers like cargo. I ended up waited in the terminal for 10 hours for the next flight out and finally arrived in MGW much too late for a very important meeting which had to be rescheduled. I would give this company a poor reliability factor rating and recommend others to consider alternative travel plans if you book with them. read more

I was scared to fly on this airline because of all the cancellation/delay horror stories on various review websites. I was flying from palm beach international to Tampa. I got to the private terminal an hour early (though 15 minutes would have been fine, it was just my first time flying with them and I didn't know the protocol) and chilled out. Eventually the pilot walked out, checked my id, asked my weight, and said she'd announce when boarding was to begin. She was very nice. It's like I would assume pre 9/11 travel was like if I was old enough to remember that. No metal detectors or lines or getting to a crowded airport 2 hours early. They let you check 1 suitcase for free which I thought was pretty cool. The seats were comfy like lounge chairs and there was only one other passenger on the plane with me. We took off about 35 minutes late but somehow ended up getting to the destination 20 minutes early, so no complaints there. I have to fly back to palm beach with them so I hope it all goes as smoothly as it did this time. read more

WORST AIRLINE EVER. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER. A flight was advertised for Pittsburgh to Dulles which apparently did not exist (how do you advertise a flight that DOES NOT EXIST AND MAKE IT OUT WITH MY MONEY?). No communication occurred between the airline and the passengers. This happened to 3 other passengers. They purchased another flight for me which was subsequently cancelled. They got the refund from United so I paid $212 for my flight then they got a refund of $259 through united and I had to drive from Pittsburgh to Dulles. The representative told me I should have booked through them and not a travel agency (expedia/priceline). They are absolutely terrible never fly with them. Their employees do not care about improving service.Despite frustration I was gracious with the representative yet was sassed on the phone by Southern. I am still playing phone tag between the travel agency and the company. Which should be the airlines job I thought???? I will be calling every week until I receive a full refund- which at this point I believe should be more. Rest assured none of my friends or coworkers will ever use this airline. I had a horrible experience which caused me to miss a very important meeting. I booked a flight from Memphis Tennessee to Dallas Texas through Travelocity.com. My return flight was scheduled to be with Southern Airways express. About a week before the trip, I received a notification from Travelocity that my flight time has been changed. The return flight was now going to have me arriving in Memphis later than I needed because of an important meeting I needed to be home for by 5 o'clock. I called Travelocity and they were able to work with Southern Airways to find an alternate flight plan that was still accommodate my schedule. When I arrived at the hangar for my return flight home later that week, I was informed by the gate agent that my flight had been canceled, yet I had never received any notification of such cancellation. The Southern Airways express employees simply shrugged and blamed it on Travelocity. I told them that should not be the case, because I had received updates and notifications earlier in the week, so how could the airline claim that they had no contact informationFor me? Or that they were unable to reach me through Travelocity? They really did not seem to care and simply told me that their only option to get me home would be the following day mid morning. I ended up catching an Uber ride over to the main DFW terminal and booking an entirely new one-way ticket home to Memphis. By this time, it was so late in the day, that my options were very very limited. I missed a very important meeting because of the lack of communication by Southern Airways express. Had I known my flight was going to be canceled, I could've planned accordingly. If, in fact, the breakdown in communication was due to a disconnect between their airline and Travelocity.com, then they need to tighten up their processes. If they are one team to be perceived as a legitimate airline and compete with major carriers, they need to have systems in place for communication. No other airline seems to have these issues in my experience flying with nearly every airline in existence. Southern Airways Express - thumbs down. Horrible experience. This airline has the worst customer service I have ever experienced! I was using this airline to fly from Morgantown, WV to Baltimore, MD where I was catching my connecting flight to fly out of the country. I arrived an hour prior to boarding time and was told the plane could not fly because a light was burnt out. I had to wait until daylight to fly which caused me to miss my connecting flight. This also cost me several hundred dollars. I was taking this trip because it was a Christmas gift to me from my boyfriend. I missed out not only on the connecting flight but priceless time on my vacation that I cannot get back. I contacted customer service upon my return and got the email address of the manager. I explained my situation to her and she responded back by saying she could offer me a refund on our Southern Airways tickets. I kindly responded back stating that it did not compensate what I had to pay out of pocket to get to my destination due to lack of maintenance on their planes. After I expressed this to her I received no response. I would not recommend flying this airline if you need to catch another flight or need to be on time for anything. read more

I enjoyed a very good relationship with Sun Air Express flying the HGR to IAD (and vice versa) route to connect to/from a larger airline. Since the carrier became Southern Airways Express and started to service BWI, I have had nothing but problems. I won't go into details but huge ordeal with a flight canceled and no notification and waiting at the unattended ticket counter for 30 min. after the flight was to depart all the while customer service is telling me the flight is on schedule to just wait for an agent to show ! I had purchased an express pak right before the transition and seems it has expired and the agent I talked today could not even tell me the value lost. But what really gets me is that I am flying into BWI on another airline, last time I flew this same flight route , the United flight was delayed and eventually canceled. The agent at Southern Airways I spoke with today said if that happens again and I have purchased an advanced ticket ( to get the best fare ) they have no policy to ensure I can rebook without a penalty- Either a 30.00 change fee which is basically the cost of the original ticket or buy a new ticket. You would think on a 30.00 ticket the change fee would not be 30.00 and you would think Southern Airways could implement a policy for those flyers who are at the mercy of other airlines ....sometimes you sit in an airport for hours after scheduled departure time only to have the airline cancel the flight ....for those of us flying into BWI on a connection, we don't get 24 hrs notice ! Would be nice if Southern could work with the larger carriers on rebookings if traveler is delayed through another airlines fault. Thanks for listening ! read more

My wife had to be in Dallas for a week and I didn't want her to drive down by herself...so she flew out of Hot Springs which was very convenient and very cheap. The guy at the counter said that her suit case was too wide and that she would have to figure something else out. Luckily the pilot walked by and looked at it and said that it would fit fine and he personally put it on the plane. The guy at the counter was pretty frustrated by this I guess as he was snappy with everyone else in line. Well my wife gets a call THE DAY OF her flight and is notified that her flight was cancelled and that they could fly her back Saturday morning. They did manage to get her on an earlier flight which threw her entire schedule out for the day causing her to miss a meeting so that she could be back in time for another meeting tomorrow. I understand flights change, but to cancel the day of is unacceptable no matter how you are traveling and no matter what the cost. We will drive to Dallas next time or just spend the money and fly from Little Rock. Never again will we use Southern Airways Express. read more
