At the Des Moines, IA airport a worker who's name is Mai at the AA counter, who refused to give my unaccompanied minor daughter her last name, should be fired. My daughter got to the counter at 4:08AM and the woman said it was too late to check-in for a 5AM flight, gave her a card and told her she had to wait off to the side until she finished helping others on line behind her. I asked my daughter: If you're on line, why is she telling you to get off line for her to help others behind you?
My daughter was with her uncle at the airport, and he is not familiar with flying or airports, and he's simple country folks from a rural part of Iowa. I told my daughter that there's always a number on those cards that was handed to her, and to call the 800 number and book a new flight, that the agent is purposely ignoring her because she most likely gave away my daughter's seat.
Even if she was too late to check-in, once she's at the counter, the agent can rebook her. Why was she told to move off line to help everyone else behind her instead of booking a new flight?
The "Mai" woman continued ignoring my daughter even when there was no one waiting on line anymore, staying on the phone instead, probably listening to a dial tone so she can avoid helping my 14 year old child. My daughter had already successfully rebooked herself on the phone with a customer service rep, but I made sure to tell my daughter to take a photo of Mai so I can blast her on social media for her completely incompetent behavior for whatever reason her poor attitude was. Especially since when there was no one on line anymore, Mai continued ignoring her and refused to give a last name (most likely to avoid any professional consequences).
If you're at the counter, you help the person at the counter, you don't tell them to wait until THEY feel like helping you. She also purposely ignored my daughter when my child asked her for her name repeatedly; and this time there was no one on line waiting. She picked up the phone and pretended to be on the phone instead, ignoring my child when she asked for her last name. Unacceptable. read more
