I see the there are varying opinions about this program. However, all seem to be from parents and adult figures. I have been a student at the "academy", as commonly referred to by students and staff, since 2nd grade. I started at a very young age and I can honestly say that the American Advanced Academy has helped me grow and learn in a way that no other program has been able to do. Before going to the academy, my mother enrolled my siblings and I in programs such as Kumon, Super Math, and other academic enrichment courses. Two years after starting at the academy, I also tried the Score! program. None of these centers have even met the standards American Advanced Academy sets. The classes are challenging, but you get a lot of fun, one-on-one attention that really helps you understand the material. The professors are nice and the "greedy owner", as very bluntly stated in previous reviews, also sacrifices her time and efforts to not only handle all student, enrollment, legal, office, and other affairs, but also PERSONALLY teaches 4 days a week at the academy and knows EACH AND EVERY STUDENT. I greatly admire her for her dedication and love she puts in the academy. She makes an effort to get to know all of us and I have always liked to think that I am not just another student, but someone who the staff can actually stop and say " Oh yeah! I know that girl! She..."
American Advanced Academy has also taught me many skills that will help me later on in life. For example, in the English classes, the first thing you will learn is what the six pillars of writing are, how to express a complete thought and PCC, precise, concise, and complete. There are many other basic ideas that help when you are learning more complex things such as writing in different styles and analyzing different texts. The math courses are just as amazing. We learn things far beyond our regular school curriculum. I remember thinking in school, "Wow! I learned that last year in AAA! Its sooooo easy!" Not only do you learn the skills, but you can also apply them other subjects and real-life issues. This is similar to the IB (international Baccalaureate) system that is present in many regular schools. In the AAA English course, I remember reading myths and tall-tales in 3rd or 4th grade. We learned about the Greek culture, why these tales and myths were present in the time and area and how it affected how the people during that time period were affected. On top of that, we learned what hyperboles, similes, metaphors, idioms, and other figures of speech were. We identified them in the passages and even played a few word play games. This was all in the period of a one and a half hour class. I feel very comfortable asking the professors for help and my questions are always answered with lots of fun information and interesting facts.
AAA not only offers academic, but also many social and fun events and activities. There is public speaking, chess, games, music, movie critique, and lots more! I have made many friends there and everyone pretty much gets along. There is also a leadership team, which I am also a part of. AAA teaches us to be good leaders and role-models. All of the students are taught to think for themselves and to take charge when needed. Leadership is one of the most valuable skills have gained at the academy. The summer camp is also very fun. It is one of my favorite parts about the summer! We have fun courses in the morning and even better activities in the afternoon. We go on fieldtrips, play games, and, of course, hold the famous WATER OLYMPICS!!!!!!
American Advanced Academy is an AMAZING program which people should praise and honor. The classes are informative and fun and everyone is very friendly. Thank you AAA! read more
