Christy Frantz is an exceptional educator and deeply intuitive guide to teens (and their families) during what can otherwise be a wrought and stressful time. Her guidance is relationship-focused and her energy is passionate and infectious. The wide range of programs at the Learning Studios makes it especially unique. To put it plainly: Christy is the best in the biz, and you'll know it as soon as you walk in. read more

The Learning Studios took the place of therapy for me as a parent of a college bound child. I didn't stress a bit during this time! My daughter just finished her Freshman year at American University and it has been an excellent fit for her. The only thing I did to help her with her college prep and research was sign her up at the Learning Studios. Christy and her team helped her explore what she wanted to study, what she wanted in a college, what colleges to consider, how to write her statement of purpose, etc., etc., They even helped with her applications for financial aid/scholarships. They held her accountable for all the steps along the way and she was pretty much done with the hard stuff by the start of her Senior year. Without the Learning Studios, I know this would have involved many stressful moments between her and me. It was worth every penny. They also provided excellent math tutoring for her (e.g., precalculus, and AP calc plus more). I've since recommended The Learning Studios to other families and all have been very pleased. I highly recommend The Learning Studios. read more

We just dropped off our son off at Cal Poly SLO. Christy and the entire staff at the Learning Studio were invaluable contributors in getting him into an impacted computer science/engineering major there. Our son had a great experience the past 2 years at the Learning Studio. His grades and his test scores greatly improved with the tutoring and guidance that Christy and her staff, especially Dale, provided. We highly recommend the private calculus tutoring, AP Calculus class, ACT prep and college consulting. His ACT scores greatly improved after taking the ACT prep class and coaching from Christy. Christy Franz and her staff worked with our son from his junior year to prepare for the rigors of high school and the college application process. She was very insightful, patient and intuitive when getting to know my teenage son and what drives him. Christy suggested colleges to apply that might be a "fit" for him. She has a wealth of knowledge regarding what is being taught in the high schools, what colleges to apply to, preparing applications and essay reviews. As a result of the College Application Consulting, our son was admitted to many of his top choices. We highly recommend the college consulting to ease the application process for both the student and parents! read more

This is the most amazing group of educators we have ever had the opportunity to work with. My daughter has Auditory Processing and has been tutored by a host of tutors through the years, but all have paled in comparison to the tutors at The Learning Studios. Once my daughter started working with Christy, Jessica and Dale, her whole outlook and level of confidence began to shift, having her go from a student who did not completely believe in herself, and who constantly asked for help, to a confident student who boldly took on challenges and worked hard to learn new study skills. In one semester, she went from a struggling student, to confident student who made the honor role, and is boldly on her way to becoming a successful college student! Many thanks to this crew of educators at The Learning Studios who are dedicated beyond belief and who have no qualms about "calling" out their students when needed, and firmly, but patiently nurturing them to become confident, successful, students who believe in themselves. read more

This place is solid. Drew is a terrific tutor. Christy is empathetic and offers great, personalized feedback. She did a great job of helping my son get ready for the college application process. I also really like their cute space, which is decorated like a home. Very cozy. Only complaint: it's hard to get to unless you have a car. Wish these guys were closer to downtown San Mateo or Burlingame. read more

The college search is a crazy time for our kids and The Learning Studios was recommended to my son to assist him through the process. Omg - it was the best assistance ever - Christy guided my son through all his options and they narrowed it down to schools that would be the best fit for him. She even helped my son through grant requests and college essays. My son is now a Freshman at Chapman University and loves it there!! He actually used the words "I love Chapman" - something teenagers never say, right?! He never would have applied without the assistance of The Learning Studios. Christy knew that my son would flourish in that type of environment. I highly recommend to all parents to take the stress off of college search and check out The Learning Studios. What a seamless experience for us. read more

I just love Christy and Lisa. My son was accepted to San Jose State with the help of Lisa and Christy helping guide him through the process. Christy was there for him during his junior year helping him find his strengths and address weaknesses. Both Lisa and Christy prepared him for the Sat's and the CSU app. My son forgot a due date but Lisa was there to help him file an appeal. We as parents are so grateful to the staff at Learning Studios for the guidance and friendship. It sure eased the stress in our home. read more

LOVE Christy and The Learning Studios. Could not recommend them more highly. They provided the personalized attention that each of my kids needed during their high school career. They are not just knowledgeable and well qualified, they care. Their ability to get to know each student, their individual needs, and what motivates them separates them from all the other tutoring centers. Simply the best! read more

I met Christy Franz of the Learning Game when my sister gave my twin daughters a gift certificate to meet with her in their Junior year in High School. We were traveling to Northern CA for Thanksgiving with family and to look at a few colleges while there. I was so impressed with Christy's expertise and enthusiasm ended up hiring her to assist us with our college search, even though her office is in Northern California. Christy is in our part of the state often enough that we were able to get invaluable in-person assistace and advise in the most stressful part to the application process. She was a great combination of cheerleader and advisor, and was incredible in communicating with my two girls, getting them to get involved in their choices in ways a parent sometimes can't. I highly recommend Christy and the Learning Studio in Burlingame. Both my children will be attending college in Northern Caliornia this fall and we are all very happy with the schools that they chose out of the eight they each applied for, and the journey to get to this point was much more enjoyable, and less stressful, having Christy to guide us through the process. read more

The Learning Studio (Director Christy Frantz) is such a wonderful local resource! I have three sons and they helped each in a different way. Whether it was physics or helping on college applications they were there to provide assistance along the way. They do group or individual tutoring which is great because it works for all budgets. I don't know what we would have done without them! read more

Short review: We cannot say enough good things about Christy Frantz and The Learning Studios. Both of our children receive tutoring from various instructors, all of whom are very talented in what they do. Our children have different learning styles and move at different paces. We have been very impressed by how well they accommodate both levels. Our experience with tutoring includes assistance with AP Calculus, AP English, US History, Algebra 2 and ACT/SAT prep. In addition to tutoring, our older daughter also utilized The Learning Studio's college planning and support program. Now this program I cannot say enough good things about. For review of this program please see long review below. Long review: We had the good fortune of being referred to Christy Frantz by a friend of ours. We originally sought out AP Calculus tutoring and ACT/SAT prep for our older daughter during her junior year. While receiving help in these areas we learned about the college planning and support program also offered by The Learning Studios. We were so impressed by the level of tutoring our daughter was receiving we felt we should explore this area as well. If I am being honest I went into the initial meeting thinking we are intelligent people and perfectly capable of handling the college application process on our own. What I learned was that it was not about our ability to manage the details or navigate the process. Instead it was about clearly identifying what our child's goals were, what school would best align with her goals and what was needed on her part to put her on the path to achieving those goals. Giving our daughter access to The Learning Studio's college planning and support program was one of the best things we could have done for her. She may have managed just fine with the counseling provided through her school. However, she lacked the confidence to reach high in terms of where she applied. Christy helped her identify a healthy balance of reach and safety schools, all of which aligned with her goals. I also believe having access to the stellar English support for essay review was of great benefit. While it was our daughter's hard work that resulted in acceptance to one of her top/reach schools, I must also credit The Learning Studios for giving her the confidence and support to put forth the best possible application. The planning and support program also afforded us, as her parents the opportunity to merely support and encourage her, rather than constantly asking, "did you do this and when are going to do that". TLS, along with our daughter managed the entire process. Christy Frantz has been a great partner and I cannot imagine doing it without her. In fact, we won't, we have already secured this program for our younger child. read more

The teachers at The Learning Studios are exceptional. What a great way to supplement high school courses. Our daughter really took a stronger interest in studying and Christy helped her enormously with her self confidence. She did very well in her college exams and I think was able to identify her career path more clearly because of the many discussions she had with her caring mentor. read more

Christy Frantz and her staff were such wonderful tutors and knew how to reach and encourage my son to do his personal best throughout his high school years. Christy's team was able to provide the support at the time when my son needed his independence. My son truly enjoyed heading over to the tutoring center to do his papers and study for major exams in addition to his one on one tutoring sessions. He preferred the environment at the tutoring center over home as he was able to stay more focused with deadlines looming. Christy also advised my son throughout the entire college selection process, helping us to identify colleges that would be a good match for his learning style. Even two years later when he decided he wanted a different size college she coordinated the transfer application process remotely with my son with much success!! He is so very happy with the results. I could not be happier for the support and results Christy Frantz at Verbal Judo provided. read more

Christy Frantz is the best resource I could have found for my daughter. We started seeing Christy in the 7th grade and it is night and day for my girl. The confidence and faith she has found in her own abilities is awe inspiring, Christy did that. What a gift. Now finishing up 9th grade she would not be as happy and successful if she weren't seeing Christy on a weekly basis. Christy sees children as the individual learners that they are. She is truly a professional for whom I will be forever grateful. Thank you Learning Studios and Christy!! read more

They provided guidance to our son last few years of high school throughout the college decision/application process. They have a systematic approach and provide very insightful advice on classes to take during his high school years etc. They pay attention to the needs of each student offering suggestions and special considerations on each student'interests and direction. We highly recommend Christy and her team to any parent navigating through the high school and college application process. read more

We are fortunate to find Christy Frantz at the Learning Studios to help our son with writing and test preparation. Alex had rough Freshmen year. He was struggling in English class inspite trying his best and spending long hours working on writing assignments. He would revise his work endlessly, worrying about not being able to satisfy school teacher's writing requirements or his own standards, and as a result missing deadlines and falling behind in class. High school advised to switch to lower level of English in second semester. My son's anxiety over English class effected other subjects and his spirits were low as the whole college future seemed impossible. Before meeting with Christy we tried two different English teachers. The first teacher refused to continue tutoring after few lessons saying that my son's standards are too high and that he is unflexible and wouldn't follow her advice. With second teacher it didn't work out either as there was not enough connection and Alex would always rewrite work produced during tutoring sessions. When our son started working with Christy we didn't know what to expect and doubted anyone could help him. However we saw him looking forward to meeting with Christy and coming home from her lessons in a better mood, and we decided to keep working with her. As Christy got to know Alex better her feedback was very encouraging and she was confident that he should be able to do well on college tests when time comes, which was hard to believe for us after disastrous freshmen year. Sophomore year Alex wasn't allowed to take Honor English class and was afraid that this demotion despite his strong reading and writing abilities would put him further behind his classmates in English. Christy encouraged Alex to take AP European history class instead as she saw his interest in social studies and suggested to prepare for AP English test at the end of 10th grade without taking actual class at school in 11th grade. We decided to give it a try. Throughout the year Alex was working with Christy on both subjects and preparing for SAT/ACT. Magically, I saw my son producing complex work for Euro class. He would never be able to pull it together without Christy's gentle and unique teaching style, her ability to work around his issues, mutual trust and inspiring him to believe in himself. Getting into habit to meet the deadlines was the hardest. First few months Christy would follow up with Alex on class progress during the week, giving him feedback when needed and prompting him to produce the work. My son succeeded in the class and did very well in all other subjects as he became more confident student by the end of 10th grade. Our biggest surprise was when Alex received the highest score of 5 in AP English Language test and was placed in 99% percentile ACT composite score after taking both tests at the end of 10th grade. Practicing writing individually with Christy outside the classroom setting did the trick of unleashing my son's anxieties and turning around downfall situation. We would never even imagined or tried it without Christy's encouragement. Her unique teaching style combined with ability to connect with students and her deep personal dedication to teaching are priceless. We are looking forward working with Christy's team for the rest of high school. I couldn't wish for a better teacher and mentor for my son and would highly recommend Christy for anyone looking for help with writing, history, test preparation and college planning. We came to The Learning Studios with a crisis, and Christy Frantz immediately grasped what we needed and which of her resources could best help us. Our (dyslexic) student had gotten way behind in AP Computer Science and was floundering on the individual project. Hossein, the tutor, analyzed what needed to be done and worked tirelessly both on his own and with our student to figure out a very complicated project, help our student write the necessary code and organize the work, encourage our student to check in with the High School Teacher about how to meet the criteria, and complete the project in a compressed time frame. And they communicated with us every step of the way. Whew! They are fantastic! Thank you! read more

Christy Franz at the Learning Studio has done an amazing job with my 3rd Grader. He had been struggling with his writing all last year. She made writing fun and taught him the fundamentals that he wasn't learning in school. He now not only enjoys writing but has a lot of confidence about his abilities. We just got his report card yesterday and he got a top score in writing. We are so grateful to Christy for her patience and genuine love of teaching. read more

I have two children that have been mentored and tutored by Christy. My oldest was a bright engaged student and worked with Christy with great success throughout high school. She mentored him through the college app process and he ended up with several UC choices. My other child encountered significant problems once she entered high school. She had always had processing issues, but once she entered high school the problems grew exponentially. We stepped up her tutoring, Christy even went to her high school during her free periods to tutor her so she would have some free time after school (do you know ANYONE else that does that?) Eventually school became too stressful for her and she started to give up on herself, her grades were bad so she could not participate in sports and her peer group shifted to a very fast crowd. She was heading for trouble. We hired an Educational Counseling firm in the city for $3000 who told us to ship her off to a therapeautic school (lock down). Christy begged us to consider other options, put us in touch with other parents who had similar situations, and gave us a list of private schools that could support us. We ended up finding a perfect school here in California. Christy was amazing throughout this whole ordeal. She was a critical component in helping us not only in the academic area, but she also had a keen understanding of what my daughter was going through emotionally. I feel so blessed to have had her friednship and objectivity during our year of crisis. I shudder to think where our daughter would be if it had not been for her advice and referrals. I regret ever going to the Educational Counselors-it was a huge rip-off- and they pointed us in the wrong direction. I am forever grateful to Christy, she is a wonderful, warm and loving person. I hold her directly responsible for my daughters continued success! read more

Christy and Dale were absolutely outstanding! My son, who is an athlete, and needs a bit of academic support, attended The Leaning Studios most of Junior year. It helped him immensely and we were so impressed with his progress, we decided to enroll in the SAT prep course. Money well spent for sure! The staff is kind, patient and very flexible when you need to make schedule changes due to practice/game schedules. So thankful we found them read more

I just wanted to thank them for helping me so much with my essays. I was so happy with and absolutely loved my common app essay as well as the supplements, a lot of which I used for other schools. I honestly don't think that my essay would have been anywhere close to where it was without your help, so thank you so much all the support! read more

The Learning Studios has been an important and most helpful part of our family. Our oldest daughter worked closely with Christ Frantz when taking her SAT's and then when applying to and getting accepted to an Ivy league school. Christy was an intergral part of the process and helped our family, and our daughter to achieve her dreams, and this last May, our daughter graduated from Columbia University with 2 bachelors degrees, something she could not have done without the confidence Christy helped instill. Our younger daughter has worked with Christy and her staff all through her high school career and aslo utilized he Learning Studios college planning services and will be attending a great colllege in the fall. The Learning Studios has so much to offer any student with any goals, nothing is to big or to small for the compassionate and very enthusiastic team that Chrsity has put together. We honestly feel that The Learning Studios has helped both of our children in ways that are invaluable and we will be forever grateful. There is no need that can't be met and no child that can't be encouraged and The Learning Studios is the place to do it. The environment invites growth, and the team is always there with a kind word or helpful idea. The team approach is wonderful and both of our children were forever touched by Christy and her amazing team. read more
