The theaters are too warm and nobody will do anything about it. Theaters are supposed to be cool.

Unreliable scheduling, especially for Fathom and special events. For weeks they listed Giselle ballet to be shown twice, the dates were wrong on different sites, and then they only had 1 showing at 3 pm with no 7 pm showing. These changes have happened before. Many people drove a long distance for one of the Met operas and they couldn't even receive it in the scheduled theater. No repeats, just a useless drive out there. read more

Seats were flaky and gross. Snacks were incredibly expensive and not that good. Bathrooms were rancid.

Went to movies Thursday evening. Bathrooms trashed. Dirty, unsanitary and needed attention. Heat in movie theatre not on. People asked for heat to be turned on never was. Very bad experience. Will be a long time before returning. read more

We were sitting in the theater waiting for the next movie and an employee walks in and says, "Movie is over you need to get out." We were confused as we had not seen the movie replied that we were waiting for the next movie to start. He relied rudely," I need to clean the theater so get out." If he had explained it to use in a different way we would not have been so upset. You can tell that this employee has no customer service skills. We wanted to see Nope at the IMAX theatre but were told that "it was broken." That was disappointing because the film was shot in IMAX so that's how it should have been seen. Consequently, the regular digital theatre's screen was blurry and the audio was so bad that we often missed dialogue. Unfortunately the same thing happened when we went to see Everything, Everywhere, All at Once. The seats are also surprisingly uncomfortable, especially if you have back issues. I'm giving this theatre 2 stars for the personnel, who were extremely kind and helpful. I'm guessing they aren't paid terribly well and the pandemic hasn't made things better in that regard. read more

Decided to give AMC 12 Springfield another try and this will be the last! Once again they were not closed to serve me my glizzy. Mid movie, as one does, I began to crave a glizzy dog. Huge Parking lot, decent selection of movies, 3D and IMAX movies, and a Coke fusion machine. That's a recipe for a winner in my book. We were able to show up 5 min before our movie started on a Friday night with almost no wait in line and could have our pick of seats in the theater. I know that it's not like there's a huge selection of theaters in town, but this small town theater has plenty to offer. read more

Just moved into town. Decided to go out for a movie. I have been too many movie theaters in my lifetime. This by far is the absolute worse. First off... I thought it was strange that the line was out the door. Until we get inside and realize there is only one guy taking money for tickets. Secondly.... the theater needs a lot of updating. Went to see Breakthrough today and the place is a disaster. Spilt soda all over the floor, popcorn and trash everywhere on the floor with trash cans overflowing. Don't know what people expect from a theater but my experience yesterday was flawless. Plenty of parking. Perfectly clean including the mens room. Theater #2 perfectly clean with a comfortable temp. Started on time. Advance purchase was simple and quickly entered avoiding the line. The lady behind me talking loudly on her cell phone while I bought a drink was highly annoying but not AMCs fault. Are there people who still feel the need to talk into their cell phone like they are talking into a tin can attached to another tin can with a string? Really? Great experience and the MULE was a great movie. May be Clints last. read more

As big as this place is, I didn't understand why they offered such uncomfortable seating. There weren't any recliners. I couldn't raise the arm rest to make a love seat for my husband. The menu was ok. Better than the theaters in Jacksonville Other than the seating complaints, this theater is pretty typical of what it is suppose to be but no bells and whistles. read more

This is a typical AMC theater. I have to agree with other reviewers that this location's air conditioning is terrible, and the volume is louder than what it should be. I saw "Crazy, Rich Asians" which I enjoyed. I saw the movie mid-afternoon on a Friday, the week it came out in theaters. Self-service kiosk was quick and easy to use for purchasing my ticket. I didn't buy any concessions, nor use the washrooms. The theater was clean at the start of the movie, but it was very stuffy, humid, warm... just plain uncomfortable. Temperature outside was better than in the theater, lol. As the previews begin, it was obvious the volume was louder than normal (as other reviewers have stated). Movie picture quality was good. Another minor complaint: no staff ever came in to do a walk-thru during the movie. It would have been nice if they did to manage those young'uns on their cell phones (bright cell phones screens--annoying). read more

Beware - the price Showplace 12-Springfield, IL advertises on their web site is not always what they'll charge you at their ticket counter!! I tried to attend a 4:30 PM, Oct 12, 2107 3D show, advertised on the SP12 AMC web site for Seniors @ $10.19. But, at the SP12 ticket counter, they insisted the price for Seniors was $11.96, even after checking with a manager. I decided not to attend. Got home, checked their web site for the next day's showing of the same 3D movie @ 3:30 PM, Oct 13, 2017, and in fact, a Senior ticket was listed as $10.19, not $11.96! I called an SP12 manager to ask why the discrepancy? It took a while for her to admit they were wrong. And she didn't even take my name or offer to make up for my inconvenience of having made a 50 mile round trip, just to come to SP12. I don't want to do that, again! read more

Ok where to begin! Well i was totally pumped to see Jurassic World and waited to see it when it wasn't opening weekend! I decided to go with a group of friends and sat in front of a guy that decided to sleep & SNORE! I told 2 of the crew members and they came in with there flash lights. They did nothing! So 25 minutes I left the movie again to say something! Again the crew and management did nothing! So finally an hour and 10 minutes into the movie i gave up and demanded to speak to a manager! She said she was sorry but could not ask him to leave because they could not prove he was sleeping!!! Unbelievable! So 4 movie tickets and large popcorn and drink was wasted! I was offered no compensation either! I loved that movie theatre. Its to bad that the customer service in that place went down hill! I think i will start going to the drive in instead! read more

This place pretty much sucks. The concession standakes you wait for an empty cup, making you wait in line again for a drink. Which makes you late for the movie. Lines out the door, and not at full capacity on registers. read more

This theatre has big crowds, cause it has the best theatre quality (screens, sound). That said, the air conditioning is pathetic. I'm pretty skinny, and still get really overheated in these theatres. read more

I was bored...decided to take myself to the movies...I spent approximately $25 bucks for a movie, popcorn, drink, and some candy...It made me happy. I watched 42, the new Jackie Robinson movie - movie was good. The theater itself was in good shape, seats were comfortable, bathrooms were clean, employees were friendly, and no issues with the movie - good sound and good size screen. read more

Nice, clean movie theater. Nothing really special except you can see a show for $5 during the week. For me this was enough to warrant a 4-star rating. Overall the staff was friendly, theaters were clean, service at the refreshment area was quick, movie quality was great - I'd go see another movie here in a heartbeat. read more

Usually a good theater that would be 5 star with the Stubs card. November 7, 2017 went to see Thor:Ragnarok and alarms started going off. A recoding was played to leave the theater immediately. Went out in the cold 48° temp. We were not given any explanation why the theater had to be emptied. How hard would it be to let paying customers know why they had to exit the theater??? read more

Have been an elite Stubs member at AMC theaters for years. Then we decided to enroll in Movie Pass-a great deal by the way. We are seeing many more movies at this and other AMC theaters now. I get the receipt and see that AMC is getting fully paid for the movies we see from Movie Pass. Even better for them since with Stubs only we received a senior discount and saw primarily matinees priced movies. Now AMC is getting more movies at full price from us due to our membership with MP. DESPITE all this, both this theater and the other AMC's in Springfield (a monopoly here) have decided if you use Movie Pass you don't get Stubs points even if you have paid your annual Stubs fee!! Maybe an AMC wide policy. I don't know. I cannot understand the logic. People are going to more movies, AMC is getting paid (the real risk is for Movie Pass' business model I guess), yet they punish their paid elite stubs members. So what if i use my point to get some discount (over priced) popcorn that you make money on even with the discount? This has got to be helping you put more people in largely empty theaters (at least here in Springfield). Needless to say we will NOT be renewing our Stubs membership, nor buying refreshments of any time at the regular inflated prices. Punish your best customers just to get back some way at Movie Pass for some obscure reason? Catch up with the 21st century AMC or go the way of Sears, Radio Shack, and other dinosaurs. read more

Been going to this theater since it opened like the stadium seating a lot concession stand can be a bit slow at times you got people going to a lot of other movies theater has 12 screens never had a problem with the staff and have had a good experience here. Prices are comparable to other theater chains in cities this size don't see a complaint here. read more

If you are slightly deaf, it's great but for those of us with normal hearing, this place is horrible. I am not exaggerating, during the trailers I tried telling my friend I'd be right back and I quite literally had to scream at my friend who was right next to me so they could hear me. I told the children working there and they ignored me. I had to walk out because it gave me a headache and could barely hear for hours after. Seriously, what the hell? No other theater is that loud that I go to. Even the Imax theater in Peoria isn't THAT loud. read more

The prices for the tickets plus treats is very exorbitant. We have a "Stubs" card that saves us some money because the movies are the one thing that we can share with our twelve year old twin grandchildren. This is an industry-wide phenomenon, but it is very stressful to have to be sure that we catch a movie in the first week or two or it will be gone. The grandchildren love the seating- they go up to the nosebleed section. It seems to me that the movies are pricing themselves out of existence with these incessant ticket price hikes and no discounts for seniors. read more

I see a movie here every other weekend or so. The ladies room is alway a mess. Since, it's a big part of the operation it should be on the cleaning schedule way more often. Ticket and food cost enough I feel entitled to clean ladies room. The theater is cleaned after every show, how about check the restrooms just as often. This theater is a huge disappointment . The prices are high and I could understand that if the quality was better. We went to see a movie on the opening night and the theater we were in was at least 80 degrees. I requested the AC be turned down 3 times and it only got hotter. The lights weren't dimmed for the previews. The movie was ruined due to the heat in the theater. read more

Best theater in Springfield. Im not sure what everyone is talking about with the seating. The seating is as comfortable if not more-so than other theaters around central Illinois. The angle at which the seats are placed is good for being able to see over the top of tall ppl sitting in front of you. The theater is clean. This is always my first choice for theaters. read more
