I saw Ghost in the Shell at the AMC Garden State Plaza 16 last week. This was a screening of the 30th Anniversary version that's been remastered in 4k, and was shown in Auditorium 6. I got seats in Row G so that we had more leg room. First row at the bottom of the stairs with no seats in front; the seats in G are not too close to the screen. AMC Garden State Plaza is well run AMC theater. The auditoriums are clean, as well as the concessions areas and the restrooms. I like that each auditorium is clearly marked its specific type of projection and sound set-up - e.g. IMAX or Dolby. Plus the movie murals and film posters are cool to look at. read more

**Outstanding experience! 10/10!** A few days ago, I went to see the live broadcast of BTS Busan concert. It was my first time visiting both this mall and this theater--in fact, it had been ages since I last stepped into a regular movie theater! I was blown away by how massive this place is; it has so many screens. Everything--the restrooms, the auditoriums, the hallways, and the concession stand--was absolutely spotless. The customer service was exceptional right from the entrance. I had pre-ordered some popcorn and a soda through the app, and they were ready the exact moment I arrived. Came here for the IMAX experience on the Oddysey and it kinda disappointed. The sound was too high and too loud even though I was sitting all the way to the back. I think the sound needed some calibration. There was an mishap that happened on that day that stopped the movie from running when it was about 2.5 hrs with 20 mins remaining. They had to evacuate us and gave us vouchers to come back again. I don't think would do so having 20 mins left to finish the movie... Came back for Spiderman Brand New Day for the normal format and there was no reclinable seats, disappointed! Will definitely think really hard before coming here again... read more

As movie theatres go, it's fine. Also convenient in that it's inside Garden State Plaza so there's plenty of dining and shopping options before or after. But since I gave the nearby AMC Riverside a 5 rating, I unfortunately have to give this a 3 since rating it just a star below wouldn't be fair to Riverside. The seats here are old and just the standard upright chairs--doesn't compare to the leather recliners at Riverside. Also, if you're just here for the movie and it's a Friday or Saturday night, prepare to come like an hour early to find parking and walk. It's not like AMC Riverside where you can show up 10 minutes before anytime and make it to the show on time. read more

I have been going to this AMC since 2011. It is the largest in the area, only one with IMAX 3D. Somehow it has remained the exactly the same over these 15 years. Same entrance, concession booths and hallway. I mostly go for the IMAX movies. I like the auditorium 2 with its massive screen and surrounding sound effects. But the food, drinks and over all feel of the whole place is underwhelming. Fountain machines and pop corn butter filler areas are always dirty, full of filth. AMC A list membership one of positive things though. We save on service fee, get free soda upgrade, and $5 rewards for every $50 spent. read more

We went for Captain America last weekend. Usually we would be able to get the seats before actual movie time but that day they didn't let anyone in until the actual movie time. It was weird to me. I was not sure if they needed extra time to clean or it was a new thing they were implementing. Other than that, standard service with food counter. We were refused entry to an R-rated movie because we didn't have ID, which we understood. We then bought tickets to a completely different PG-13 movie, but the manager still refused to let us in because we had previously been denied for the R-rated movie. We weren't trying to see the R-rated movie anymore and were willing to pay for another one. Completely unnecessary and terrible customer service. And completely made up the policy "I said so" that we couldn't go and see this different movie.mind you it's pg-13 along with also not getting a refund for the R rated movie. read more

I watched those films on repeat, so much so that I once (or twice... or multiple times) tried to blame my mischief on Lex Luthor--sorry, Mom! The original Superman movies hold a special place in my heart, and they always will. So, you can only imagine my excitement when I heard that James Gunn was stepping up to reboot the franchise with a fresh, comic-accurate, and lighthearted twist. Smelled like a boys locker room on the walk in. Paid $52 for 2 tickets to Michael Jackson. Our seat cup holders and buttons for the reclining access was dirty. I make my way to front to ask for my own wet naps, but they sent someone who didnt bring any cleaning spray, but had dry napkins. Opened on May 25, 2007, this theater is the successor to the old Route 4 tenplex. The AMC Garden State 16 is attached to Garden State Plaza, located in Paramus, where my partner and I came today to watch "Wicked," based on a Broadway musical, in one of the 15 screens. It's a plot that follows the origin story of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, a character from "The Wizard of Oz." The reservation was easily made via the AMC app, which was really helpful and convenient as well. One doesn't have to rush to get a good seat anymore. The newer or blockbuster movies will play on the larger screens. We ended up in theater 13. It's a good room with large screens. However, with a running time of two hours and 40 minutes, the seats don't recline, so they are very uncomfortable to sit in for long periods of time. We've seen the Broadway show but preferred the movie version; we can recommend this place. read more

It's your standard AMC theater. It has some IMAX theaters and the seats are comfortable. It's usually clean too. The prices are pretty high and parking can be a headache depending on when you go. There's not much to say really. A bonus of being attached to the mall is that you have plenty of dining options for before/after your movie. There are other AMC theaters I prefer for different reasons, but I'll go to Garden State when it's convenient. read more

Attended the Oppenheimer viewing at this AMC's IMAX theater and I was.... no pun intended.... BLOWN AWAY! The theater is large, every aisle is clean, the seats are comfortable, the screen is very large, and the sound system is phenomenal. I thought, that nothing could give NYC's 68th Street, Lincoln Center IMAX theater competition, but this one does! I will, most definitely, return to the AMC Garden State IMAX and highly recommend it. read more

A typical AMC experience where you choose your seats, no real complaints. The seats don't recline so not super comfortable compared to some theaters. You have to buy tickets at the kiosk now and it seems worth it to join the AMC rewards program. It's conveniently located in the mall so you can get something you eat before or after and avoid the pricey popcorn and other foods and drinks that aren't worth it. They also have a military discount and various showing options like laser, imax etc. Too many options and upsells! read more

Big theater with 3d IMAX available, and a virtual viewing experience Dreamscape. Stopped in for Avatar 2. The counters for snacks were understaffed and the soda machines were ok. No one was at the ticket counters whatsoever, so if you have an issue with the machine you have to figure it out yourself or try to call someone over. Theater for IMAX was comfortable, though the middle armrests don't move up all the way so sitting with a date can be uncomfortable. Side angles were okay in row d, but further up I can see that would be a challenge for 3d. read more

I usually venture towards other movie theaters but had made plans with friends for this theater. Chairs are not great as they don't recline or have much tilt. Staff here are friendly for the most part and theaters are decently clean. I prefer other theaters to this location. Not one is openly recommend. read more

Absolutely Disgusting Experience This was by far the WORST movie theater experience I've ever had. AMC should be ashamed of this location. The place was filthy--floors sticky, bathrooms reeking, trash everywhere, and the seats looked like they hadn't been cleaned in forever. The staff and management were rude, unprofessional, and clearly didn't care about the customer experience. I asked a basic question about my ticket and got nothing but attitude. The final straw? I ordered food and found a ROACH in it.(mind you that I had ate my whole bag and found it at the bottom) and Disgusting doesn't even begin to cover it. I showed it to management, and they barely reacted--no apology, no refund, nothing. Just acted like it wasn't their problem. And here's the thing: I KNOW they're going to try to cover this up. Places like this always do. But I have photo proof, and I'm not afraid to share it. People deserve to know the truth about how nasty and mismanaged this theater is. I went to see Mufasa and the movie itself was a 10/10--absolutely amazing! The seats were comfortable, however, the cleanliness of the theater was disappointing. Before the movie even started, there was garbage on the chairs and floors, which clearly hadn't been cleaned between showings. This was unsettling and detracted from the experience. I understand it was a busy Saturday with new releases, but there should be a better plan in place to maintain cleanliness during premieres. read more

Let me just start by saying my boyfriend and I are huge moviegoers. We have AMC Stubbs A-list and we go to the movies at least twice a week. This is our movie theatre. We always only go to this location. But I have never had an issue so bad before. Last night, we went to go see our weekly new movie, and this time it was Terrifier 3. The movie was great. However, we got to the movie theatre, and the woman running us up for snacks was straight up rude. She had no soul. She was very blunt and acted like she didn't want to be there. I know people don't like their jobs. But at least make people want to come back, in my opinion. If you know anything about the Terrifier movie franchise, then you know that they are very gory movies and they are unrated. Meaning that they are so disgusting that they can't even give it an R rating. AMC needs to go back to check IDs. We got into our seats and a group of 13 to 14 year-old boys sat in the movie theater. We ended up moving our seats. It was ridiculous. They were throwing stuff at each other and laughing within the first scene of the movie. We realized that it wasn't Respectful to take other people seats, so we decided to return to our original assigned seats. Only to realize that they were taken by more of the 13/14 year old group of boys!! called management, they fixed it, but they should keep more track of what goes on in the theatre. They laughed, screamed, joked around, and THREW POPCORN. AMC NEEDS TO PAY MORE ATTENTION! Adults do not want to watch a movie with kids in the theatre!!! When I asked the man in front for help, I had even noticed that he was playing a game on his phone and let in another group of young boys!!! AMC, step it up or l'll cancel my membership!!! read more

Visiting this theater often feels like playing the lottery. If you're lucky, you get an auditorium with speakers that are loud enough, an air condition that works, and floors that aren't sticky. Sometimes you'll also get stuck with a projector that has a few dead pixels in it (I believe in auditorium 7 or 9?), or an auditorium with the odd seat that's missing the plastic piece behind the back. If I had to guess, it feels like 1/3rd of my visits incorporates at least one of these issues. One of my most recent trips was a real shame, as it involved a new issue for me. Auditorium 4 (the one next to their soda machines) seems to have a bad center speaker. It has absolutely zero bass (I'd guess anything under 400hz is missing), to the point where all of the dialogue in the movie that I saw sounded like it was recorded on an old rotary phone. Real shame to see that happen right before the summer starts. I have a few tickets to a movie that's playing in that specific room in a month or so, so hopefully that gets fixed at some point. Besides that though, it really is luck of the draw. I saw a screening of The Lion King here last year and nearly had heat stroke from the lack of AC in the room during a record heat wave in the state. Another time, I saw Madame Web in IMAX and had to deal with one of the speakers buzzing for the entire movie. So yeah, it's a toss up. If you get hit with a bad screening, consider complaining, I guess (unless you're an A-List subscriber like I am, in which case you just kinda have to hang your head in defeat, I guess). You'd think an AMC at one of the largest malls in America would be nicer, but you would be wrong. read more

A Disgraceful Experience at AMC Garden State Plaza 16 - Do Better I attended the encore presentation of the Met Opera's Le Nozze di Figaro (2025) at AMC Garden State Plaza 16, scheduled to begin at 6:30 PM. What unfolded was not just an unfortunate technical issue -- it was a display of disorganization, mismanagement, and total disregard for the audience. By 7:00 PM, there was still no performance on screen, and no explanation offered. Patrons began walking out of the auditorium to find out what was happening. The only responses came from a few clearly inexperienced young staffers, who admitted there was a problem but offered no timeline, no communication, and no leadership presence. At no point did anyone step into the theatre to address the audience, apologize, or provide a meaningful update -- a stunning failure in customer service. By 7:15 PM, people understandably began leaving and requesting refunds. First, we were handed vague cards "to be used for future visits" -- not what anyone came for. Then we were told refunds couldn't be issued because the show had already "started." It hadn't. The screen remained dark, and the show never began. After pushback, refunds were eventually issued -- but not without unnecessary confusion and frustration. This experience was upsetting not only because of the technical failure, but because of: Zero managerial presence during a major disruption No communication whatsoever to the waiting audience No apology for the inconvenience No offer to reschedule the screening -- even though the audience showed up in good faith to see it This was a failure on every level -- operationally, managerially, and ethically. The treatment of the audience was disrespectful and unprofessional. Needless to say, I will not return to AMC Garden State Plaza 16. If you care about quality, reliability, or basic courtesy -- I suggest you avoid it too. read more

I'm iffy about this movie theater. I know it's really huge and they do offer a lot of movies but it's just lacking an intimate vibe. There's so much noise because there's so many people. I definitely prefer going to Riverside Square mall if I'm going to watch a movie at a theater. read more

This is a large movie theater located inside the Garden State Plaza mall. The mall has a large parking garage with free parking. The ticketing at the theater was a bit confusing. It was unclear whether we needed to show our tickets immediately when we walked in or if they would be checked when we got closer to the theaters. It turned out that tickets are taken at the front. We completely missed it and were able to walk in directly to concessions but we ended up having to go back because we were seeing a 3D movie and they give out the 3D glasses when they take your tickets. For food, we ordered the large popcorn and large drink combo which was about $17. The large popcorn comes in a giant tub. The popcorn tasted fresh. They have self-serve machines for adding your own butter. The theater itself was fine. The seats were pretty comfortable, but they were not the fancy leather ones that recline. We saw a long movie so a lot of people got up in the middle to get concessions or use the restroom, which was a little distracting. There was also a baby crying for a good chunk of the movie. In general, this theater seems to attract a lot of teenagers. Overall, it was a decent experience. Nothing special about this theater but it's a good option in the area. read more

Filthy and sticky surfaces from the lobby to the inside of the theater. Not to mention uncomfortable (and dirty) seats that should've been replaced a few years ago. Not to mention the temperature of the theater was entirely too warm. Not to mention a chunk of the audience that for some reason needed to yell/talk/scream at the actors on screen and another chunk of the audience that just couldn't put their smartphones away for a few hours. Not to mention almost a full half-hour of previews and commercials. Not to mention $6 for a bottle of water. Not to mention you need to take out a small-business loan to be able to afford four small popcorns for the family. Not to mention the price of the ticket itself. Since I went to see a comic book movie it's probably fitting to say, "On Bizarro World this AMC would get 5-stars!" This Fancy AMC theater is Huge and does have alot of seating options for you to choose from. It's almost 100 percent fully automated with the use of kiosks instead of ticket sales associates. This allows you to search for whichever theater, 3D, IMAX, and seating arrangement works best for you. I found that if you do have a question that you feel a sales associate can help you with, Forget About It!! Don't even bother asking anyone anything in here because believe me, they don't know and they don't care. No doubt that's why this theater went with the kiosks I'm sure. This place has been my worse experience. For a sold out movie they had only one person checking in. Both pre purchased and everyone else all together with a line of hundreds of people. No real manager on site and only a disgusting third world looking guy pretending to be. Clearly this place wants to just make money and does not care about the customer and good service. I wish I could take back my old review. My husband and I have been coming here regularly for about a year and it has really gone downhill. It's become so filthy especially on Sunday afternoons when we really like to see a movie. Over the winter we've been coming a lot. Especially the Dolby theater which is the most expensive. It's always full of garbage and filth. So disappointed because we are empty-nesters now and rediscovered movie theaters. This was our favorite but not anymore. It's like they fired the whole cleanup crew. It's been going on all year and I am afraid we won't be going anymore which is a shame because we joined their movie club that allows us big discounts on snacks and no fee for online tickets.
