My first appointment (early December) was cancelled with less than 24 hours notice due to the physician's schedule. I lost a day of PTO due to that, but rescheduled for later in the month. For that appointment, I sent my updated insurance information by email, as they requested. Despite having 3.5 weeks to confirm, they called me 45 minutes before closing the day before my rescheduled appointment of time to say that, not only were they not able to confirm my insurance, but that my insurer told them I did not have an active plan (I do). Because the clinic called me less than an hour before closing, I was unable to connect with my insurer by phone to get the clinic confirmation. I ended up cancelling my appointment due to frustration and lack of any options provided by the most clinic's administrators. They would not allow me to bring proof of coverage to my appointment, a typical practice for any other reputable physician's office.

The OR team was nice from the front desk (Dairia) who has a pleasant personality and put me at ease to the rest of the team Leah (pre-op nurse), Sue (OR nurse), Amanda (OR Team) and Doreen (recovery nurse). The anesthesiologist and nurse anesthesist both helped me understand procedures and what I could expect while answering my concerns. All went well and my R.N. Doreen throughly went over my discharge orders. I have read the other reviews which are different from my situation and hope this is not the norm for most patients. For my overall O.R. experience Magee gets a well deserved and solid 4 stars. PS They even gave me a thank-you card with my discharge orders (a nice touch).

But what hurts the most is that I had to fight to keep my baby's remains from being treated like medical waste. The doctor did not even seem to know that I could ask for the pregnancy tissue from my D&C as proof of my pregnancy and loss. I should never have had to fight for this. I was grieving my baby, and I had to fight the hospital to make sure her remains were not simply thrown away. Then I was offered a keychain... I don't want a keychain to remember this experience by. I wanted my baby. I won't put all my private medical details here, but other parents need to know: ask questions, ask what is happening to the remains, request your records, and ask for your proof of conception for a proper burial based on your faith. You also have a right for the hospital to take care of the remains, if that's what helps you get through. No judgement, just options. The pathologist named Stephanie was the one person who showed me extraordinary compassion. They treated Estelle with dignity and treated me like a grieving mother, not a case number. Just a beautiful soul who looks you in the eye. I will never forget that. Magee needs to do better. Losing my baby was devastating enough. I should never have had to fight the hospital to make sure she mattered. Horton taught us "A person is a person, no matter how small." Estelle mattered. Her remains mattered. And I am grateful to the pathologist who treated her with the dignity she deserved.

Where to start? So Last Saturday my 21 year old daughter realized something was wrong with her…read morevision. So I told her to get to Med express. They triaged her and sent her to West Penn. After 3 hours in the ER they said, "We don't have an eye DR on call... go home and come back tomorrow." I said NO GOING HOME! This is your eye. So I sent her to Mercy. They diagnosed a retinal detachment immediately and scheduled surgery for Monday AM with bedrest Sunday. So Monday- her father took her to the first surgery. Both eyes needed done. I wasn't at this surgery, but they allowed her dad to go back before surgery since she's young. They hard a hard time getting her IV in but one of the nurses, Nancy, sat with her and talked to her the entire time. Fast forward to today. I found out at 4 I was taking her (her dad had wanted to but that's another story). I'm two hours away so she got herself to the hospital and I drove there as quickly as I could. I got there and pushed the button to enter the parking garage. Flew in and parked. After going up, I realized I'd forgotten to get a ticket. OOOPS! So they allowed me to go back with Abbey while they got her ready. They were absolutely AMAZING. Every single person we encountered treated her like she was their only patient today. The anesthesiologist told her step by step what they'd do and why. The Resident came in and told her step by step what they'd do. And then the Dr came and went over it again. In the mean time Nancy came in and raved about Abbey and what a joy she was and what a great job I did with her. Abbey goes back for surgery and it lasts a pretty long time. A nurse, Adrien, was walking by to grab another family member and told me it was taking a while but it's a long tedious surgery. She didn't have to stop and offer that info. Then, later she came out and as she came out for someone else I saw my daughter had gone into recover ii so I assumed i could go back soon. I said , "OH she just changed, does that mean I can come back soon?" She said, "Come with me now". :) In recovery Nancy stopped again to rave about Abbey. She said she wished she could hug her but obviously couldn't. Gave her some air hugs LOL Abbey's nurse was also super kind but I'm sorry I forget her name! So it dawned on me I'd forgotten the ticket and explained I'd have to figure that out. Her nurse called down (was it Linda?) and asked the parking person about us getting out The lady she spoke to said no we'd have to pay $22 as opposed to $2. Even though we had the same day surgery discount pass just not the main ticket. Well! The head nurse. Wait..maybe she was Linda? walks down to the parking garage and tries to retrieve us a ticket. it won't work. So she stops and speaks to James- the parking guy. He says, "Bring them down" so we go down. She says "James, these are the friends I told you about" I tried to give James my discount ticket so I can pay my $2. He refused and said, "You're not paying anything for parking!" Totally not what I expected, but what a sweetheart. So in the end, I'm thankful West Penn kicked her out because UPMC Mercy you kick butt!

Cannot do.COVID has shut down surgery. Was Feb 2020. Recall in May. OK for surgery.Only me allowed in Surgicenter. General anesthesia. Non weight bareing 2 months Had injection preop to numb my operative site. Hmmm Was given by Anestesiologins using floor to locate nerve. Stuff happens. My tendon is fine. Compensating for numbness in foot. Painful at end of day. Ankle has edema up 2 inch thick Now I know to demand MRI for any chronic pain. My right leg is 1 inch longer after AGH did hip replacement for arthritis. A complication. Now I have to wear a lift in right athletic shoe. Right anterior hip surgery sure left a scar. All docs cavalier. Just the surgery can do this. Lots of nice shoes I'll never wear. At least no more cane.

While they had me come 3 hours prior to the surgery, (I thought I'd be sitting the whole time), they kept things moving and I was never left sitting alone for more than 10 minutes. I visited the emergency room because of a rash/illness. After some research, my symptoms aligned with Lyme Disease. I was fatigued and in severe pain. The staff were very helpful and supportive throughout my visit. It started with checking my vitals and getting bloodwork done. Then I was sent back to a bed when available. There I met with the Physicians Assistant Kiley. She was great! Very thorough and knowledgeable. Answered all questions I had and ordered a chest X-ray to be sure that pneumonia had not set in. Even though the emergency room may take more time I know now that an Urgent Care Center would not have been so thorough with my care. They are more like a drive thru office compared to a full service facility! Nobody is ever happy with a trip to the hospital but Forbes is bearable and never had any complaints.

I've been to Forbes for blood work, the surgery center, xrays, the cancer center and the emergency department. The closest to a negative experience was the ED and honestly, the staff there were great, it was just a crazy long wait. (Forbes is a trauma center, so the amount of people in the ER waiting room is not a great indication of how long you might wait). For example, I was there with my daughter. When the intake person realized just how long we would likely be waiting, they contacted Children's Hospital for us, got us in the line there and made sure we had things like emesis bags for the drive over. Every department I've been in the staff has been courteous, empathetic and attentive. The hospital itself is well maintained and clean. Obviously no one really wants to go to a hospital, but I feel fortunate that we have such a great option so close to home.

My Neurologist Dr Cheryl Berstein is part of Upmc Pain Medicine…read more I have been going to Dr Berstein for about a year for back and neck issues. The staff in the office are very nice and super helpful anytime I need anything or call. Dr Berstein is great and a very good listener. I could not imagine going to any other Neurologist after going to Dr Berstein. She is great , She has a great personality and is super friendly. I will continue going to Dr Berstien. If you are in the need of a pain doctor, The Dr bernstein is the doctor to see. She is defiantly one of the best in her field.
