It was good and flavorful. I got fish curry. It was hard to eat as the fish was not de-boned. That's my Only qualm and the reason I gave 4 stars. read more

The food is well seasoned and extremely tasty! I could eat it daily! Love Indian cooking but don't want to do it myself!

Excellent food from a wonderful family-owned Indian restaurant. The owners and staff are welcoming and the atmosphere is warm.

Pretty much the best authentic Indian food we have had in the US. We were visiting family and we came here with a huge group and pretty much tried everything on the menu. I remember every single item on the menu being top notch. Spices were on point and not overpowering. Textures were beautiful and the taste was absolutely divine. My favorite was the papdi chaat, bhindi fry, dal makhani and ras malai. Gulab jamun was pretty good as well. They even brought us some halwa to try and that was delicious as well. Service was really nice. The ambience of the place is beautiful as well. They also have their own parking lot. Having lived in India, my expectations are always high, I was pleasantly surprised at Amber Spice's ability to keep the authentic taste of Indian food. They keep it true and simple. I would highly recommend trying this place out. I wish LA had such great Indian food. read more

Pretty good overall! This was my second visit. The range of spices is some of the best I've ever had...even found myself eating the TOFU (yea I. Sa'id it) which I never do, but the sauce was amazing. The staff is very attentive and kind. $12/lunch buffet. So why only 4/5 stars? 2 reasons, 1) the buffet is limited to only one side, and if you're lunch time is limited can be frustrating . On each occasion I had to wait an extensive time just to reach the start of the buffet. 2) the Chicken Marcela/Butter Chicken was not the traditional chunks of white meat. And had some grisly pieces. Not much, but I did taste it on both occasions. Still I'm looking forward to my next visit! read more

I ate here for a company dinner so not sure of the prices. The food was great. I recommend ordering their mango lasi. My favorite dish was of course the chicken masla. It was creamy and loaded with so many earthy and sweet flavors. In addition, they have such scrumptious Nan bread. The restaurant uses the freshest of ingredents. I'm so glad I got to try this place out with my work because I would have never even known it existed. It's located in a shady little shopping area. Now that I know about this place, I plan to go often. If I had to say one thing is their service was not the best. But to be fair, they had two very large parties. read more

Hmmmmm so we had a taste for Indian and were slightly disappointed with what we received . The customer service let me tell you is extremely superior, it was the quality of the food that is the reason for three out of five stars . We started out with the vegetable pakora , which is different types of veggies fried in a chickpea flour . The chickpea flour adds to this buttery nutty flavor , the pakora we received where not done in the middle it was like a still like doughy. Also on that dish we had veggie Samosa , the filling is a mixture of mashed boiled potato, onions, green peas, lentils, spices and green chili, or fruits. The entire pastry is then deep-fried in vegetable oil or rarely ghee to a golden brown color. They were perfect paired with the chutney sauce and a lime green sauce that was spicy . The entree I had was two different dishes , the first was the Dahl Mahkhani pronounced daal makh-nee, "buttery lentils") served with rice . This dish typically is my favorite , however the Dahl I had here was very bland and dry in appearance like it had been sitting . The second item I had for an entree was the Butter chicken , the sauce to meat ratio was off, I cannot over emphasize how much more sauce there was than meat . The sauce was just ok it was very sweet Oppose to a combination of sweet and Indian spice . I wasn't really pleased with it , just was ok , again slightly bland . My guest had this whole Rock fish fried and then it was covered in tomato onion and spicy Indian seasoning. We both dig into the fish it was good and had lots of flavor , but when we got to the middle of the fish it was completely raw and pink and rock fish isn't the type Of fish you eat under cook. We brought it to the waiters attention. The waiter took the item and then the manager returns to let us know that was the last fish . I was confused they open up at 5pm for dinner and it was 5:30 pm and that was the last fish you had and mind you it was empty almost . One party of 8 which appeared to be friends of the owner and then a couple in the corner and one other party of four . So the manager was extremely apologetic, he offered us something else , he took the item off the bill and was so kind and brought out some complementary tandoori fish . The fish was just ok , bland it tasted like tandoori chicken despite it being some kind of fish . read more

A group of 4 of us had dinner here tonight, and were very pleased. My mango lassi was delicious, and the chicken korma was very good. The menu is big and it was hard to choose, but we all ended up happy with the choices we made, and ended up with leftovers to bring home! read more

1st visit (certainly not my last)to Amber Spice. Late lunch. Greeted & seated immediately. As requested, staff provided lemon for my water. I ordered the Non-vegetarian mixed grill (w/basmati rice) & garlic naan. A sizzling platter of succulent goodness arrived @ my table. Initial thought, dig in. No Ma'am, take your pics 1st. Meats were all the perfect spice level, melt in your mouth, slightly charred on the outside, but still juicy inside! Server provided me w/a generous bowl of creamy sauce to tie everything together (Thanks). The buttery, pillow soft, garlic naan allowed me to clean my plate w/o embarrassing myself. Mysore coffee was the perfect end to a fantastic lunch!!! read more

Best Indian food in the area without a doubt. Our go to restaurant for delivery also.

Ok so I ordered the chicken tikka masala, garlic naan, mango lassi... Chicken tikka - outstanding quality and great portion Garlic naan - delicious, but could be a little crispier Mango lassi - drank it way too quick, really good! (Not too heavy either To top off a great meal, they gave me a free rice Pudding at takeout since it was my first time... They said I would be back...and I'LL BE BACK! 6 star rating! read more

What a welcome newcomer to the area that now seems rich with good Indian places. To the pantheon of Indian restaurants that include Curry Leaf, Sapphire, and Tandoor Grill (the only one of the three I have not been), please add Amber Spice. This place sports a beautiful interior that is clean and very modern. The color motif of gray and......of course amber is a great touch. Apart from the fabulous interior Amber Spice serves good Indian cuisine. This review is for the lunch buffet as I have yet to order from the menu. The flavors seem a bit tame but that is probably a function of it being a buffet trying to appease the weak palates of the McDonald's raised masses. I wish the Tikka Masala was more flavorful...it was good but just down a notch from Curry Leaf. The naan here is some of the best I have had in a while. The lemon rice is exceptional. The vegetarian dishes were better than the dishes with meat on the day I visited but that may have been because they were hotter. One minor quibbleI I have is that the food on the buffet steam tables seemed mildly hot to lukewarm in temperature. Would that the meat dishes were hotter (temperature and spice level) this place would be a five star. The mango lassi was thick and delicious. It might be the best and freshest around. Rasika would be proud to serve Amber Spice's mango lassi!!!! One word about the restrooms. Every restaurant, shop, store, hotel, etcetera ought to visit this place to see how a restroom facility should look and function. I added half a star just for that. The whole establishment just looks and feels so clean and uncluttered. Great start for this place as it just recently had its grand opening. Come on in and cut them some slack as they figure out the flavor and spice profiles that will work for the area. Four stars and some change. I will update this review once I sample items from the menu. read more

Update 10/30/18 The problem with overdone underseasoned meats is fixed. Mushroom masala is delicious! I saw their signs passing by and stopped by for the lunch buffet check it out. They are stlll doing soft opening, so another try may be in order. My benchmark is of course Sapphire, where I am the Duke The space was formerly the unlamented House of Peking Taste in the Marlo plaza. The new decor is pretty generic, the music is the only Indian part of the ambiance. The buffet looked small, but several pans were double decked, so there were fourteen items plus a salad and chutney station. Two kinds of rice and two nice soups. The vegetable and appetizer selections were very tasty, boldly and complexly seasoned with heat levels varying from none to scalp sweat. One I especially liked was a vegetable and nut pancake I'd never had before. The naan was good, but suffered a bit from its time on the steam table. The meat dishes were a different story. They were timidly seasoned and a bit over cooked other than a tender goat curry, making me wonder if the chef was a vegetarian who didn't taste his work. Only one dessert, a beetroot halwa that was delicious. No beverages were offered other than ice water - a carafe was left on the table - but I saw an Indian family drinking lassi. Pretty decent spread for $11.99. Still, Sapphire remains my favorite. The dinner menu has wide selection at a slightly higher price point. Probably worth a repeat try after the grand opening. read more

I'm going to go on record to say that this was the best Indian food that I've had! The menu states that all meat is Halal. Not that it matters to me, but it might matter to you! They have a great variety of food, Southern Indian, Indo-Chinese and everything you're used to seeing in an Indian Restaurant... And then some. I guess I just have to keep coming back to try it all! The food was so good and fresh and bursting with flavor. It came out fast. The waiters were great! It's in the shopping plaza with Marlo Furniture but in the other building by the barber shop. They've tucked away this gem. I highly recommend it. read more

This place is sooooooo good. I use to really enjoy the curry leaf down the street , but it's changed through so many owners. SHOCKINGLY disappointing for the quality of food and the price. We had a craving for Indian food on our way back to DC from BWI, and decided to stop at Amber Spice since they had good reviews. We ordered the Lamb Curry, Chicken Tikka Masala, Regular Naan, and Rasmalai. Both the Lamb Curry and Chicken Tikka Masala were $17 each, the naan was $3, and rasmalai $6 - not great prices (esp. for quality of food) - this is what I expect to pay in DC, not in the suburbs. I'll start with the lamb curry, since it was the most disappointing and disgusting part of the meal. The lamb curry cannot actually be called a curry. It was simply chunks of lamb bathing in about one inch or more of oil. Please see attached pictures for proof that I am not exaggerating. We decided to make the best of the situation and took out the lamb chunks out of their oil bath; however, it was still difficult to eat, because the taste of the oil absorbed by the lamb overwhelmed any hint of spice. The chicken tikka masala should actually be called butter chicken. I know some Indian restaurants do interchange the two, but usually there is a disclaimer on the menu. There was no such disclaimer on Amber Spice's menu. For those that don't know the difference, chicken tikka masala has more of a kick, because it is cooked with more spices; whereas, butter chicken has a sweeter gravy/less spices. The dish we ordered was definitely sweeter/no spice, and tasted exactly like butter chicken. You can also tell from the picture that the color of the gravy is much more orange like butter chicken. That being said, if you are actually looking for butter chicken and not chicken tikka masala, then you won't be disappointed. The rice, naan, and rasmalai were fine. Clearly other people have not had the experiences that we had, so maybe we were just unfortunate and got an extremely horrible batch of food. Regardless, we will never go back to this place. I regret having wasted that much money on their food :( read more

The worse Indian Food ever!!. The palak Paneer was tasteless and looked like vomit. I dipped out the cheese cubes that hard and uncooked and Un flavorful out of the dish. Then I asked for a Mango Lassi. #Nasty, too thick, too sweet. Then as we were leaving someone decided to burn up the food in the kitchen, I smelled like burnt smoke, never again, Oh, I was there on Mother's Day to meet a friend. And my last part. Curry Goat had a lil kick, spice-wise, but was completely devoid of flavor. There were tons of bone, fatty pieces, and any actual morsels of meat were very small. Unacceptable for $18. While I'm used to goat costing a little more, I'm fine with paying it if the offering is sufficient or it's at least seasoned w/the typical aromatics, herbs, curry paste/powder that serve as the benchmark for deliciously authentic Indian cooking. It had none of that. The only thing Curry about it, was the name. SMH Really unfortunate because it smelled wonderful. Even the garlic naan was bland. This is exactly why I always try an Indian restaurant by its Buffet first, to get a feel for how they cook, whether or not their flavors are authentically Indian. I guess post Corona, that will probably no longer be an option. Le Sigh. The guy working was friendly however, I'd be open to trying them again Maybe, just not this dish. read more

I ordered via DoorDash. Egg Curry is delicious! If you aren't a fan of spicy food I wouldn't recommend. Definitely a good alternative for those who do not eat meat. The Samosas are also amazing, fluffy inside while the outside has a nice crunch. I took one star off because the Egg Curry was supposed to come with Ceylone Paratha which is like a roti type of flatbread and it was missing from my order when it got delivered to me. All in all, the food was superb which is very hard to find in this area in my opinion. read more

Amber Spice - Egg Curry and Samosas - Indian Near Me - Laurel, Maryland

The best food places tend to be out of the way, little hole-in-the-walls where you would never expect it, perhaps because the best food places tend to be family restaurants scratching to get by, so they most they can afford in rent are the most inconspicuous places. And so it was on a rainy weekend evening, I found myself in the Laurel Marlo Furniture parking lot, looking for Amber Spice, recommended by a friend as "the best Indian food in Laurel." Indian food in Laurel? They weren't wrong. Inside, the restaurant is spacious and dim, and there were plenty of customers (who mostly appeared to be Indian, which I took to be a good sign). We started with Chaat and Bhel Puri, two appetizers that got our juices flowing, a clash of textures and flavors at both sweet and spicy in a good way. I ordered the Chicken tikka masala, and others ordered the Tandoori chicken and the Crab Malabar. This place delivered - tasty, not too spicy, creamy tikka masala sauce bathed the tender chicken, and we got plenty of naan bread to dip into the sauce. The Tandoori chicken was firm and dry on the outside, but juicy and tender on the inside. The crab malabar (we never had this dish at any Indian restaurant before) was essentially a crab bisque soup, but it was worth it - tasty, creamy, and thick. We wound up taking most of it home as it was too rich for anyone to finish in one sitting. Five stars! Don't pass the Marlo without stopping at Amber Spice. This place is so good, it may be a reason to purposely visit Laurel... read more

I love this incredibly clean and delicious restaurant, and really appreciate the warm and attentive service! I've eaten the lunch buffet here about a dozen times since they opened, and am always impressed by the presentation and quality of the buffet items. There are several Indian restaurants that are closer to my home, but I'm happy to drive 25 minutes one-way to eat here instead! On the weekends the buffet is a few bucks more, but you do get a weekend "bonus" protein such as fried fish filets. At dinner our standard order usually includes at least 4 of the following. All are generous portions and very shareable: *Palak Paneer ($15) - an amazing rendition of this spinach-based dish which is *much* better than virtually all of the other Saag Paneer type curries I've ever had. *Daal Makhni ($13) and/or Daal Tadka ($13) - Both are fantastic versions. You can't go wrong with either one! *Bagara Baingan ($14) - Love this take on eggplant curry. Sectioned whole Indian eggplant immersed in a complex gravy. If you like Baingan Bharta, you will enjoy this. (Note: they don't serve Baingan Bharta here) *Lamb Karahi ($18) - Fragrant "dry" curry with moist chunks of boneless slow-cooked lamb. Awesome! *Fish 65 ($10) - A fun and tasty take on the classic "65" street food style. I sometimes get the chicken version as well. *Chicken Tikka Masala ($17) - Pretty much the ultimate version of this "General Tso's Chicken" of Indian restaurants. We only order this when we come with others who must order this. I mean, it's really good here, but holy hell it's funny when someone says they "love" Indian food and they're favorite dish is CTM. :) *Goan Fish Curry ($18) - Rich, satisfying curry with bone-in fish sections. I get this every time and love every spoonful of it! *Basmati Rice (Included with entrée) - Amber Spice doesn't mess around with trying to guess how much rice to bring to your table. You will get no less than one nice-sized bowl for every entrée that you order, even if you are one person and order 3 entrées, you will receive 3 bowls of rice. Very fair, right? Strong suggestion: Don't sit in the booths (at least for now). They're the same booths they've had since they opened, and currently the shared seatwalls between the booths are dangerously loose. If your dining neighbor behind you sits down abruptly and bumps the loose seatwall and you happen to have a fork or a water glass on/around your mouth at that moment, you may poke yourself in the throat or chip your tooth. Not worth the risk - sit at a table for now, at least until the loose booth seatwall situation is fixed. (We've had a couple of close calls!) Huge fan of Amber Spice! This is the most appealing Indian restaurant in the DMV re: flavors, value, cleanliness, and service. Keep it up guys! read more

I have a problem, an addiction. I spend way too much money here, and I don't plan on stopping anytime soon. Get the spicy chicken tikka masala and garlic Naan. You will not be disappointed. They give you a lot of tikka masala for the amount of rice that comes with the order (which is never a bad thing) so I always recommend adding an extra side of rice. Save it for later or share with a friend. If you are me just eat it all in one sitting! read more

I have a love and hate relationship with Indian restaurants. I love that they do a lunch buffet every day. I hate that the lunch buffets are cheaper than ordering a single dish. I love that I hate an unlimited quantity of food. I hate that I can not control how much food I put on my plate. I always put "a little" of each dish on my plate my first round. I don't think I was able to fit everything on my plate the first round here. They have a lot of dishes available. Plenty for vegetarians and plenty for meat lovers. This is always ideal for us because my husband loves his meats and I prefer veggies. My second round tends to have my faves and whatever else I don't try. This also usually ends up being a full plate too. No self control I tell you. Everything just tastes so good. This is the type of restaurant where you won't need dinner if you have lunch here. The food sticks to your stomach- and legs and arms. It doesn't allow you to do much for the whole day. If you go home and nap it will be a hard knock out. Hate that. My husband and I love trying Indian restaurants. I went to one every single month while I was pregnant. In comparison to indian places in silver spring, Columbia and laurel- this place is by far the best. Better than all the rest. Lol. Just remember to cancel any plans for day and bring your stretchy pants. read more
