I love Amber Spice! The food is delicious and reminds me so much of the Indian we could get in England. (Yes, I know that's weird but it's like their national food). Anyway, my favorite things to order are Chicken Korma, Butter Chicken, and Garlic Naan. My husband just randomly orders anything and it is always good-but I want guaranteed good when I am hungry! No, it is not especially cheap, but what is these days? McDonald's is like 10 bucks for one and I would much rather eat this. The Egg Curry with Ceylon Paratha drew my wife to Amber Spice just as it had drawn her previously to Curry Leaf. Truthfully, the Ceylon Paratha bread is so flaky and tender that it could be devoured alongside any of Amber Spice's entrees or by itself. The Chicken Chili, served with Basmati rice, combines spicy masala chicken with tomatoes, green peppers, and onions; and the goat curry is equally memorable. Although we have yet to experience their all-you-can-eat buffet, we imagine we will be just as excited as Bilbo Baggins' dwarf-guests from "An Unexpected Party" in J.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit (without being nearly as unruly or loud!). One year later, on an extremely temperate, fifty-degree, Christmas Eve day, we headed back to Amber Spice on Route 1 in Laurel, Maryland so that my wife could partake of their deservedly renowned buffet and I could order the Chicken Chili. She sampled Butter Chicken, Tandoori Chicken, Vegetable Pekora (a fried appetizer that she loved), Adoo Gobi (a cauliflower side dish), Palak Paneer (a spinach dish), and Kulcha (a leavened bread with scallions). This rating is purely for the lack of customer service and not the food. As I was pulling my food out the bag, I noticed the container was sitting on a piece of chewed gum stuck to the bottom of the bag. I took a picture in case the restaurant wanted proof. When I called to inform them of the discovery, I was basically told I was lying and that no one there chews gum and all the workers there are 50+ and would not chew gum -no clue why age matters- then they blamed the delivery guy The lack of customer service was disappointing as they have quality food but the poor attitude from management will make me think twice before patronizing again. I was just alerting the restaurant to what happed and this was how it was received so I sure hope this is not how they handle other customer concerns. read more

Had lunch here and the restaurant was clean and buffet hasn't been reopened but owners said soon. We got the extra long spicy Dosai, Wings, and Chicken Vindaloo. The Dosai crispy pancake has potato and spices in a small part of the center. It's served with sambar (lentil stew with layers of with many spices) and coconut chutney. It was really good, crispy, spicy and the dipping sambar was exceptional. The wings were good, not over the top and the sauce was delicious. I think the extra long Dosai was too much, so next time just the regular for me. Chicken Vindaloo was tender but oh so spicy. I thought I could handle it but it was very hot. Just keep that in mind if you order or see if they will make it mild. I would like to go back when they have a buffet so I can try different menu items. read more

Going back through reviews, I realized the one I was writing for Amber Spice must have gotten lost in the ether. Proof I need to stop writing on the app and wait till I'm home on my laptop! Anyway, went for lunch back on August 4th, with my friend, whose turn it was to choose a restaurant. I wasn't unhappy with her choice! We arrived around 1230 and were seated immediately. Our booth was directly behind the plates and silverware station for the buffet, which looked amazing. We looked over the menus anyway, but in the end opted to have the buffet. Normally I don't do that, because I can't eat enough in one sitting to make it really worthwhile. But after seeing prices for their normal menu, I decided since it would cost the same as a regular one-dish meal, I would enjoy tasting several different items. On weekdays, which must be what my friend looked at, the buffet is only $12.99; on weekends, $14.99. Not sure what would be different on a weekday... I'm always a fan of chicken tikka masala, and theirs was succulent and spiced perfectly. I actually went back for more of that and a bit more of the spinach. I enjoyed a small bit of chicken korma, as well, and a little taste of fragrant rice with a goat curry over top. I tried something new to me, but can't recall the name of it - a small dessert bite similar to a donut hole. It was yummy! The service was minimal - once we were seated and got water, the man who seated us took the menus when we said we'd have the buffet, and we never saw him again till we were ready to go. We would normally ask for separate checks, but weren't given the opportunity to do so - happily, I had enough cash with me to cover my half (I seldom carry cash anymore). Next time I'm in the mood for Indian food, I would certainly consider coming here again - on a weekday ;) read more

Ever since we found this place, this has been our go to for Indian food, even if phone service is not great. In at least two instances, after telling us the wait time for pick up, the person that answered hung up without taking the order. Tonight, my food had a piece of metal in it. So even if the food is yummy, just understand that the people making it may not have the same standards and attention to detail to minimize the inclusion of foriegn objects in the meal. I had originally thought that it was a small bone or cartilage and almost chewed down on it. Glad I didn't. I still gave three stars because regardless of the apparent hazards, it still tastes great. read more

Yep, they are still taking my money and I will gladly continue to give it along with a hefty tip! Because after going to several other restaurants in the area and having the most horrible service experience, we came here about 30 minutes before they were scheduled to close. I *never* do that at restaurants because it's not fair to front and back of house staff, but I just really wanted a good meal and a good date night (I was having a selfish moment). So I made a beeline to Amber Spice! I walked in and asked if it was okay that we sat down and the gentleman at the host desk said without hesitation "Of course!" We were immediately sat, received our water, and our order was taken. Within 10-15 minutes, the most delicious tasty food is brought to the table. Other patrons were slowly finishing up but at no time did we feel rushed or that we were a burden of any kind. I cannot explain how much I love coming here and will continue to do so. The service, food and ambiance is impeccable......by the way try the Mojito! Oh and this time, I was able to snap a few pictures before we finished everything off (these pictures are from two different visits we made 48 hours apart...Don't judge us!! ) . We had a lunch get together here after my business meeting was over around 1:30 pm. No buffet but menu dining available. We have been here before and my past photos were not published earlier but are I hope it get posted. Usual paper Dosa for my brother and I had my Mysore Rava Masala Dosa with Idli as appetizer. Taj beer Bottle from India was ordered which was shared. Service was fast as I knew the staff from my earlier visit and knew what I liked to order. It was sunny outside and we sat near tables facing sunlight with shades filtered 50% of light. See photos of items ordered. Taste of items are very authentic south India cuisine. Coconut chutney was really amazing with warm sambhar for Dosa . They have separate washrooms for ladies and gent. Not that busy as they close 3pm and open again at 5 pm. Had quite a few takeouts while we were there. Enough parking in the Plaza for patrons. A must place to visit for authenticity of south India taste. read more

I've been eyeing this place for months and finally had a chance to stop by for the awesome lunch buffet. They have some great goat, butter chicken, paneer, naan and tandoori chicken. Food is seasoned really well and the meat is very tender. There are over 10 different items to choose from and vegetarian options as well. I loved the open concept and how clean this location is. Located at the corner of route 1 and Van Dusen this restaurant maybe hard to find. Living in Laurel I've been spoiled over the years with all types of buffets. Amber Spice is at the top of my list for it's quality and authenticity in their food. I'll definitely be back for dinner and refer all my friends here for lunch. read more

I like the food selections, and I will be back. I love samosas. It's a great change of pace from local Asian buffets.

I ordered butter chicken and and the vegetable samosas for lunch. I really have no complaints! The texture of the sauce was more gravy like than I'm used to, but everything was delicious. You get to choose your level of spiciness, so I chose spicy. It was a kick, but not overly spicy. There was a lot of food, so I was able to get two meals out of it. The samosas were large and crispy, and the filling was spicy as well. I'll be back for sure read more

This restaurant is close to where I live in Laurel. Since I like Indian Restaurants, I figured I would give it a shot. I am glad that I decided to try it! The food and service here are both really good. The buffet has a decent amount of options. My favorite were my go to dishes. Chicken Tikka Masala, Samosa, Naan bread and Biryani. The Naan was ok, but everything else was very tasty. The tikka masala had a nice level of spice to it. They also have a bar here which was nice. My Bacardi and Pepsi was good! Overall I like this restaurant and I'm sure I'll be back. The prices were fair amd its close to home. read more

There are a lot of good Indian places closer than Amber Spice, but when it comes time to do another Uber Eats order, they're top of the list: for good reason. This place is simply delicious. Our last order, I decided to try a few different menu items, rather than being boring and predictable. (Look, I like what I like, and I know what I like, and if I want to order the exact same thing every time I order from a place, I'm going to do it, okay? JEEZ! ). I gave their mulligatawny soup a try, and the simple "curry" that appears on their menu. I'm a little disappointed that the curry hasn't been described a little bit better on their menu. Had I known what I was in for, I would have ordered this a lot sooner. It is awesome. They have several types of meat choices, but I picked a mild spiced goat curry. Just give it a try. Trust me on this one. The mulligatawny was a little spicier than I expected, but it was still good. Washing it down the mango lassi was great. Finally, we finished up this meal with gulab jamun. Pop these in the microwave for about 15 seconds -- they're so much more delicious when they're hot. read more

The place has changed in a bad way. Sad way really. The unfortunate thing is that the pricing is too high for the quality and amount of food presented--it is a huge negative. I can taste the difference and my opinion is that they have not been using the same high quality ingredients. Very nice personnel, but watch carefully when you check out, cuz I was burned twice in terms of unwarranted charges added to my bill and found out too late once home. I ordered food for delivery through DoorDash. From ordering to contactless delivery to the door, it took only about 35 minutes, which was impressive. I ordered a garlic naan, an idly appetizer, and a chicken tikka masala main dish. The garlic naan was fresh, homemade, and full of garlic, which was great! The idly was super disappointingly cold, hard, and uncooked. The cold I can get over because of the time to bring it to me but the hard and uncooked was not acceptable. The sambar was excellent and there was far more coconut chutney than I needed but I savored every spoonful of it. The chicken tikka masala was mediocre. You can tell easily when the chicken and sauce are not cooked long enough together, when the chicken is just dropped in at the last minute before packaging the food up. For $17, I didn't find the 6 chunks of chicken to be a good deal. I would try a few other dishes from here before ruling it out. Other reviews I've read online suggest that I'm in the minority of folks who didn't enjoy this place. read more

I came here on a veggie kick and was super impressed with the options. I wish I could remember the names of what I got, but all I know is that it was bomb. Indian food with flavor and spice! You would think this wouldn't be hard to do but pretty much every Indian restaurant in the Maryland area has decided to strongly cater to the American palette and limit flavor/spice. We had extremely tasty, fresh dosas. Curries were flavorful with a rich taste and ample spice. Prices are a bit high but well compensated by the size of the portions (probably double the portion size of most other Indian restaurants). Naan and other breads were fantastic. They serve both North and South Indian dishes. The chef is from South India. I will absolutely be back. You need to go here if you want high-quality, flavorful Indian food. read more

Butter Chicken vs. Chicken Tikka Masala,,,,Yes,there is a difference between the two. One is an Indian dish and creamier with butter (Butter Chicken) and the other is a English invention with more tomato intensity and less creamier (Tikka Masala). Well this restaurant does both the BEST! Kind of hidden on Route 1 in southern Laurel off of Contee Road. All the dishes are great including the Samosa and all the vegetarian dishes. But you have to order the Butter Chicken and Tikka Masala with Chicken. Make sure to order them mild and not spicy and a side of Naan. So good! Came here for a lunch meeting around noon on a week day and I was surprised how not busy it was, considering how delicious the food is. Ordered the palak paneer with garlic naan.
