Expect your delivery order to arrive 3-4 hours after you place it. They don't update you either :/

Best Indian food I've ever tasted, hands-down. Look for the following song while reading this…read morereview: Chand Dekh Lena. It is on rotation now while I film this video review and it captures the spirit of the vibe at Maryland Tandoor: casual yet slightly-opulent, Indian-traditional and mostly accommodating. Your first impression when walking into Maryland Tandoor: it kind of looks like that glorified burrito bowl chain all across America but they bring your food to you, here. But once you are seated, all of the comparisons drop. I've never had better Indian food anywhere. I often feel like this after many Indian meals so I'm kind of biased, but I think I am not the only one who might say that the casual Indian fare here is uncharacteristically exemplary. It goes with the decor here: gorgeous yet you stand in a line to order your food by a steam table. Many of the entrees here are around $15 and are every bit worth it. Don't miss the Specials board on the left as you walk in. It's blinking yet somehow still nondescript and features some meat and bean specials. Maryland Tandoor is defined by a gorgeous lounge-ish interior with a cafe style. It plays modern and appealing Indian music and serves entrees you will likely not soon forget. I already miss it as I write. The chai is creamy and buttery. You serve yourself from a chai dispenser machine. I just needed to add sugar. The garlic naan is good. You can really taste the cilantro. They have perfected the dough here: the dough on the samosas is so warm and soft and fresh. Very tasty. The same for the naan delivered with the meal: this is the first time I ever smelled naan that smelled like buttery pillsbury biscuits. It didn't taste like them, but the smell was reminiscent. Delicious. On their own, the chunks of salmon tandoori are perfectly marinated, moist and delicious. The butter chicken sauce is delightful. It is sweet, with actual tomatoes and a creamy sauce. The chickpeas are the best I've ever had, also! They are so fresh. These chickpeas adds actually are not over marinated and sauced to a point where they cauld be virtually any bean. More on the decor: the seats are oversized, soft and comfortable. They are fit for a king. The two-top tables are also gorgeous, gilded and lovely. Yet it's a casual cafe. Love the irony. Maharani Palace in Herndon and the Royal Tandoor in Gaithersburg are also owned by the same 'Royal' brothers. It's high time that the University of Maryland had a proper Indian restaurant as its student population is comprised of many Indians over at least 4 decades.

I…read moreactually planned to visit in person, but when I arrived at my hotel and noticed they were in my food delivery app, my tired body took over and I was soon ordering their tasty goodness to enjoy from the comfort of my hotel room. Of course, I had to order a mango lassi (soooo good) to accompany my butter chicken plate. It came with a heaping portion of piping hot basmati rice, and I also grabbed a side of (spicy!) samosas and some garlic naan. This place did not disappoint. It was incredibly tasty! And the portions were huge. I actually had plenty to eat for breakfast the next day. I especially loved the reusable bag it all came in - I was able to use that as a modified packing cube when I headed home. Highly recommend this spot if you're in College Park and having some Indian food cravings!

My friend and I split a dal and the spring dosa, both of which were delicious. Others at our table had the iddly , the lamb tandoori, and the mango lassi and gave them rave reviews. There is also a tasty lime soda with basil seeds in it. I hadn't been to a local Indian place since the old days when I would to Woodlands and Tiffin. Amber Spice will become my new go-to.

We were headed to Amber Spice for a late lunch, and fortunately, we made it in before the 2:45pm cutoff (I called ahead to check). Since it was almost lunch closing, they did request that we place our orders soon after being seated. We already knew what we wanted to order, so we didn't feel rushed otherwise. We started with the veggie samosas ($6, two pieces), which were served with the traditional tamarind sauce and spicy cilantro chutney. The samosas were packed with the potato and pea filling and had a lightly crisp exterior. They were as good as any. For my entree, I ordered the butter chicken ($20), which is served with a side of basmati rice. When ordering, the waiter didn't ask about spice level. I did find their butter chicken to have some heat to it, but it wasn't anything crazy - I'd say a 3/10 for spiciness - I felt the warmth. The chicken was super tender and moist. I would be happy getting this again. I also ordered the garlic naan ($5), because you have to have something to sop up the curry goodness. The naan was hot and fresh; you could also taste the garlic. One basket came with four pieces (one whole naan), which is perfect for sharing. I finished the meal with the gulab jamun ($6) for dessert which came with three pieces of the fried dough balls served in a sweet syrup. My friend ordered the mango kulfi and loved it! She described it as a mango lassi, but frozen, which made it that much more light and refreshing. Amber Spice is a casual dining spot and it has the service to match. We were brought a carafe of water for the table to start, so it was self-serve the rest of the way. Food was brought out quickly and plates were cleared at the end, but we weren't checked on during the meal. Perhaps since we arrived near lunch closing, service was winding down, but we got what we needed. I enjoyed the food here and would come again. Everything that we had was not only super tasty, but also reasonably priced. There's also plenty of parking in the shopping center.

Everything was packaged in a paper bag and the sides were double wrapped with foil and labeled on top to distinguish the different sides. I ordered the palak paneer (full side - $10), black daal (half side - $7), and veggie samosas. I'm not sure how the full and half translate to ounces, but side by side, I feel like I'm getting gypped somehow - like the half isn't half and the full isn't full (and not in a beneficial way)... you can look at my pics and be the judge. We enjoyed the veggie samosas ($7.50 on Grubhub, comes with two pieces). It was served with the sweet tamarind sauce (no mint cilantro chutney/green sauce). The samosas had good crunchy texture and weren't too spicy. The palak paneer and black daal were adequate but not my favorite. The palak paneer had a few large chunks of paneer at the bottom (but I wouldn't say generous) and the flavor was too gingery for me. The black daal was pretty standard in terms of flavor, and a little chunkier than I'm used to. But, I do love daal anything, so this fit the bill. Food was just okay overall - I don't plan on adding this place to my normal rotations.
