Welp it's true that nothing ever stays the same. Tonight we decided to get a pizza. I talked everyone into getting Amato's. I have been a fan since the 80's. We would go to Chicago's Galewood location which has been around since the 60's I think. Pizza was always delicious. Fast forward to tonight. We ordered a Cheese / Green Pepper/ Onion for pickup. Order was ready as promised. My friend picked it up right away and got it to us. We were excited and hungry. Presentation looked good and somewhat inviting. Pizza was very bland and lukewarm. Crust was sort of doughy in spots. I had to add an abundance of crushed red peppers to help it. Family members tried to push through a couple of slices but then stopped as did I. So very disappointed. However I do plan to go to another location in the city. (Chicago) Just for nostalgia sake. read more

Our most recent Amato's experience resulted in a demotion. For years, this has been something that we all look forward to when visiting family in Aurora/Naperville. This time we picked up three pizzas for our first night of celebrating just after Christmas. Something has happened here. None of us remembers specifying a thin crust, including one of us who lives close by and has had it many, many times. The cheese is still great. The sauce and toppings including well flavored sausage, are still what we remember. The crust, however, was underdone, thick and tough. We have never experienced this before. In my previous review, I stated that we have never been disappointed. I can't say that anymore. Of the six of us, we were universally disappointed. The tough, and underbaked crust was a huge disappointment. We ended up throwing a bunch of it away. I apologize to anyone who ordered this based on my recommendations and received what we received. If they really do offer a thin crust and it now needs to be specified, I will try that one more time. I will never, knowingly, order what we had this time. I am going with three stars, based on our history with Amato's. If we can't get better crust next time, it is going to a weak two stars. Next time will be the last time if it is not better. read more

Long story... Moved into area in 2017. Tried several pizza restaurants and then found Amato's. Bingo, became my favorite. Then something changed a few years ago and not good...too much oregano or something. Back to trying others and nothing was good. Decided to try Amatos again and wow, very good. My coworker recommended this place. They have awesome daily specials. On Monday they have two slices of pizza for $8. We got pepperoni and sausage slices. I wish they have better drink options but the pizza was decent. I like pizza by the slice so it was perfect for me. Great lunch recommendations. read more

Last night was our first time ordering from Amato's. The pizza wasn't bad. The only issues that we had was #1.) one of the two pizzas we ordered was cooked "well done" (see photos), which is an option when ordering (but we didn't order it that way). #2) we ordered an appetizer that should have come with onion rings but they were out of onion rings so they substituted with mushrooms instead. We do not eat fried mushrooms. I do feel like my money was wasted because the mushrooms weren't eaten and the overcooked pizza the kids really didn't like it. I did call and relay my issues with the manager who was very nice and apologetic (and that's it). I would probably give Amato's another try but not anytime soon. read more

I stopped in for the first time today for lunch and ordered the two slice special. I was delighted to see you had more options for a slice beside the standard sausage, pepperoni, or cheese. I settled on one slice of cheese and one slice of Margherita. A fountain or canned soda is included for about $7. I had to go with a can of rootbeer, not wanting to deal with a fountain machine's "water" (I know the area and their water is disgusting). I first tried the Margherita slice. While there was plenty of basil (albeit, most of it was inside the box and not on the slice), it was nothing more than a regular slice of cheese with basil on top, and a slice or two of roma tomato thrown under the cheese. I've had better Margherita pizza at Buona Beef. Pretty disappointing. The cheese pizza was your average slice of cheese; nothing special there. Even though it wasn't my favorite pizza, they have other menu options including pastas, salads, and sandwiches (just like every other pizza joint). It's relatively close enough to work, so I can easily add it to my list of places to stop at for lunch. read more

Fantastic pizza! I discovered Amato's about a year ago and haven't looked back! The pizza always arrives hot with fresh ingredients and delicious sauce. (Good chicken wings too!) OMG! We ordered two pizzas. First time ordering. The super thin crust pizza was soggy and had no taste. The double crust was average at best. So I phoned the manager Justin who informed me that in his 18 years of business he's never received a complaint. Funny, because I've read Google and Yelp reviews and there are several complaints from customers. Seems Justin is illiterate. He refused to make it right. He offered nothing but an apology. So his cheapness will cost him two poor reviews, a dispute with VISA, and of course his reputation. And we all know word of mouth is a powerful tool. You've been warned folks! Today was the first day I have ever tried Amato's and I had a great experience. The online ordering was very simple and I ordered for delivery. I instantly received a receipt in my email as well as a separate email with my estimated delivery time. The delivery was a little earlier than the estimated time so that was good too. I got the cheese pizza, thin crust, and added basil, feta, and ricotta. I also ordered some chocolate cake with it. The pizza was awesome, but I wasn't a fan of the cake. Not a bad place to grab a slice or two of pizza, since they have all-day pizza by the slice and it only takes about 15-20 minutes to have a pie made. The crust is great, which is big if you're a pizza nut. It is thin, has a nice crunch, but still a bit of chewiness to it. The toppings are tasty and plentiful. My one minor nitpick is the sauce. The pizza doesn't have much (I'm a sauce guy) and what is there is a little on the bland side. If it were more tangy, I'd seriously consider giving their pizza 5 stars. read more

I've lived around here for years and finally decided to try out their pizza since a neighbor of mine swears by it and says she takes her family there to dine almost every Friday. Ordered the plain jane cheese and sausage xlarge thin crust and a spaghetti for about $30. It was good pizza but nothing to rave about so that's why I only gave 3 stars. I ordered and picked up and the pizza was ready in about 20 mins. I consider myself to be a true pizza snob. I have my favorites and am not often impressed with a new (to me) pizza joint. With that said, Amato's has quickly become a regular spot for my family. The pizza is truly, very good. Two things that set this place apart for me are the dine-in area and the great service. With two small kids, I don't always want to commit to a "formal" meal out with a server, so their self-service dine-in area is perfect. It is nicely decorated, clean and always stocked. There are two TVs, one on each end of the dining area, and every time we come in, the manager turns Nickelodeon on for my kids. This small gesture makes a world of difference for two hungry parents just trying to get through a meal while it's hot! We love this place and will keep coming back! read more

I ordered a vegetarian deep dish pizza from Amato's last week. The crust was pretty plain, but the sauce was good. I liked the olives, onions, and green peppers that went into it, but I have to admit the broccoli added a different twist. Since broccoli is so flavorful, it didn't mix well with the olives, which on their own are pretty empowering. If you order the vegetarian pizza next time, I'd recommend no broccoli. O When I'm out in Aurora again and REALLY wanted to a deep dish, I'd probably order from Amato's if I couldn't find another alternative. It wouldn't be my first pick though. read more
