Amari was our first destination on our Friday date night. We were the first ones there around 5 o'clock and we picked the back booth in the corner, one of three tables. I have been to Amari several times and am finally getting around to leaving a review! It is such a great addition to the Midtown area. Last night my friends and I had dinner at Arario across the street, then came to Amari to sit on the patio for some cocktails. The menu has enough variety for everyone to find something to enjoy. I had the White Linen cocktail and my friends had the Black Manhattan and East India Sazerac. We all loved our cocktails and the ambience of being out on the patio with the string lights and ivy wall. I have also had The OG and The Royale which are both great options as well. The inside is just as beautifully decorated with the green velvet cushions in the booth seating area, black and white floor tiles, exposed brick, dim lighting, and wrap-around wooden bar. Even the bathroom is aesthetically pleasing with a black and gold color scheme! Coming to Amari feels like a boutique cocktail experience and is a lovely place to hang out and enjoy a drink with friends. I will definitely be back and look forward to trying more drinks from their menu! read more

We dropped in on a Thursday evening after grabbing an early dinner at Midtown eats. They usually have patio tables with bright red umbrellas in their small courtyard, but they must be put away for the winter. But that's ok, because it's chilly and the ambience inside is romantic and intimate. There is a small bar to the left and bench seating with small cafe style tables and chairs to the right. The place is dimly lit with tons of candle light and old Italian music being played over the speakers. The bar behind the counter showcases mostly Italian liquors; Campari, Amaro, and many colourful more. Small jars of fresh roses sit on each table. There was one other middle aged couple when we arrived, but they departed shortly after so we had the place to ourselves for the rest of the visit. Ivan was at the bar, if you've ever been to Death and Taxes next door, you've probably already tried his handiwork. He seems a bit reserved at first, but as we asked him questions about the cocktails and bar, you can see him kind of light up with the passion, pride, and dedication he seems to have for his craft and place of business. We ordered the Cherry Blossom and Marzipan Old Fashioned. The old fashioned was handsome and tasty. Yes, I called a drink handsome. Plus, I love the touch of the rectangular ice cubes with an imprinted "A" on top. Their logo is an A on a sliver of a crescent moon. It's adorable. These are the details I'm talking about... The Cherry Blossom had a delicate flavor and was garnished with a rose petal. Pretty in pink, for sure. The cocktails were great, the price, as expected was high. Total was $29 for the two cocktails. This isn't your everyday-for-happy-hour-after-work type place, but boy, with the romantic and intimate space, the unique and delicious cocktails, and the old Italian cafe style music playing, you can be transported to Italy a whole lot cheaper than flying! read more

From the same folks who brought us Death & Taxes, comes this new addition to the Reno drink scene. Amari, named after 'amaro', the class of Italian herbal liqueurs and bitters, is a niche sort of joint centering around Campari, Chartreuse, Luxardo, and many other brands of flavorful, herbal elixirs. If you have never had experience with these types of spirits before, then you are in for a real surprise, as the flavors and aromas infused into the often brightly-colored beverages are pretty remarkable, whether you try them in a cocktail or straight up. Perhaps the best way to get an introduction to the Amari cocktails is the classic Negroni. Sweet with smooth bitterness, this was truly a delightful beverage to sip on. Something else to ease your way into the world of bitters would certainly be a Spritz, made of various combinations of liqueurs and wines. There are several other cocktails to choose from, but frankly, I would ask the bartender for their recommendation, as they are certain to find something new to delight your taste buds. As far as prices go, you can expect most cocktails to fall somewhere in the $10-$14 range, but this is one place where I think the higher cost of the drinks is certainly worth it, as you are getting fantastic quality of something not too many places mix up. I should digress here to make mention of the bar staff, as they really stood out on both occasions I've visited. They are very knowledgeable about the products and seem quite eager to go into detail about the various drinks and bottles available. You know you're in a place where they take their craft seriously when your bartender, in the midst of a discussion about what you're drinking, pulls out a book or two about niche cocktails and tells you a bit about the ingredients and the history of the beverage. Beyond this, the folks here have been very friendly, prompt, and helpful. Cannot commend them highly enough. Amari is located on Cheyney Street, a street already lined with several fantastic drinking and eating option. The building itself is a delightful tiny shop, with a few seats and counter spots inside, and a wonderful outdoor patio for when the weather is nice. They've done a great job making it look snazzy and homey, and I have a soft spot for small little alcoves such as this. Parking is a bit hit or miss, as with the rest of Midtown, being mostly street parking in the surrounding area which is usually pretty easy, but can fill up on weekend or event nights. If you are already in the area, though, just walk right on over after dinner or after a show, as these are the sorts of drinks you would feel make the perfect end to an evening. I will for sure be stopping back in when I need a cocktail in this part of town. It was a fantastic way to get exposed to these forms of drinks, and I am very curious to see what else Amari has up their sleeves. Cheers! read more

I come here for my all time favorite spritz in town... the ROYALE!!! Whenever we have the opportunity to have a quick date night, we ride our bikes to midtown and my husband orders me my "purple drank with the baby's breath" and I am one, happy wife! The two stars is for the lady bartender though. She was rude possibly over whelmed/ worked poorly trained for human interaction. Will not be back with my group. I've been to this place 3-4 times in the last year or so. Great ambiance and the drinks are delicious. Menu is a spin off of classic Italian cocktails in the best way, adding a creative flare to traditional cocktails. However, I have a major bone to pick with this place. They have an outdoor patio and do not serve food but for some reason, dogs are not allowed on the patio. I showed up with 6 friends and 2 dogs and they came out to tell us dogs weren't allowed due to 'washoe country health code'. This is a load of crap considering that a stones throw away across the street at piñon ( less then 30 feet away), they are very dog friendly. Not sure why county health code would change in the distance of 30 feet. Every time I've been here in the past this bar is empty which is quite unfortunate because it is a really cool bar and makes me think they might not make it in the competitive Reno midtown bar scene. After we were told to leave, we headed across the street to piñon ordering 2 rounds of drinks. Really wished we could have spent our money at Amari but with their no dog policy, it's their loss. read more

I came here last week with a relatively large group (~10-12 slowly trickling in). We took our seats outdoors and waited around 10 minutes before we went inside to order, after not seeing anyone doing table service. We were greeted with a "I'll come out and take your order." We returned to our seats and she came shortly after to take our orders. It was only her working and the menu, chock full of delicious and complex drinks, all take a while to prepare - around 15 minutes for the three of us that had ordered. As other friends arrived, we went to the taco shop behind this location to get some food. We returned and started eating our meal, and halfway through the bartender came outside and informed us we were not allowed to eat food on their deck. We took our tacos to the sidewalk and finished them there. After everyone had ordered, she informed us that she was only able to split the check three ways. Not a huge issue, but it would have been much easier if we were able to go to the bar and order the drink and pay there individually. Overall the drinks are good and unique, but they are expensive. They could definitely afford to have more than one person working on a Friday night. I'm not sure if this staffing issue is because of difficulty hiring or if this is standard. I would return, but probably with a smaller group of people, and only after having eaten elsewhere. read more
