We just got back from our weekend get away at Amangiri, It was amazing.
Cons:
* Noises coming from the HVAC venting kept me up at night, but turned the fan on medium and it stopped. Annoying, but at least I figured out how to make it stop.
* Phone system in room is hard to figure out, had to use my cell to call the front desk. Didn't see any buttons on the phone for hotel departments.
* Whole the bed is quite cool looking, it has some concrete bolsters that are shin killers if you hit it. Not very easy to get in/out. But, looks cool.
Pros:
* Most likely the best hotel we have ever stayed at. A step above the Ritz and Four Seasons level hotels. Top Notch.
* Amazing architecture, being a general contractor of luxury modern homes, it's really amazing. The use and land planning was top notch, many cool and unique details through out the grounds. Loved it.
* Food is THE BEST we have ever had at a hotel. Not overly presented, but tasted great and we liked everything. Not overly seasoned and somewhat healthy. The lunch salads are AMAZING.
* General staff is great. Ask anyone for anything and they handle it. Not the "I will let so and so know". Most impressive. While eating dinner one night, a couple sat down next to us. The bus boy poured them waters and they asked him what the specials were for the night. He replied, Justin will be your waiter, but since you asked he went into the whole speech perfectly on the specials and preparations. Amazed he let the guest know he wasn't the waiter, but then accommodated them and answered their question. Impressive training. Also, while they have set meal times, simply ask and they will make it for you. Wife is a major ice cream sunday on cheat day type, they made it happen in an over the top way. Great!
* Loved the check in. First it is very secluded and a long road with a simple gate at the end. I honestly thought we were lost. Drove about 1.5 miles own a secluded road and found a unmarked gate. Hit the intercom and they ask whom you are and welcome you in. When you pull up to the resort the staff is waiting for you. They take your bags and give you a tour of the resort, finally take you to your room and everything is there for you. Great service.
* The staff will all know your name, They approach you and address you by your name and I never even met them.
* So many great little hiding spots to sit and be left alone, I sat and chilled for 3 hours and never heard or saw anyone. So quite it's amazing. We sat at a side patio each night and watched an amazing sunset all by ourselves.
* We did a private tour of the canyons and it was great. Guide was a native Navaho Eli and gave us a great education. Very casual and never felt like a tourist. We got to visit private canyons and be all by ourselves. While other canyons had a hundred tourists, we had 2 all too ourselves.
* Spa was great and well appointed. Spa and steam rooms could be a bit hotter, but nice.
We had a great time. Most of our trips are to cities, LA, SF, Seattle, this was the first seclude type resort, simply stay, eat, chill, workout. At first we were a bit taken back by the chill type setting, but after a day you really get into it. It is simply amazing. Now, you will drop a bit of cash to stay here, but all meals are included so it really isn't that bad for what you pay for. Honestly it is the best hotel we have ever stayed at. I would love to try their places in metropolitan places. Spend the money and try it. read more
