What cute little spot, nestled in a small Courtyard, this little gem is not to be missed. The staff was fantastic and super friendly. The owner was present and engaging. We started off with some Polpo de Gallician and it was out of this world. The spices were perfect, the octopus was tender and amazing. Then we went for the Paella, which was almost perfect. OBSESSED with this place! Waitress & owner are amazing and I loved the amount of recommended foods that were not found on the menu! Amazing Tapas! You must get the Piquillos Rellenos (Cod stuffed piquillo peppers), it was a sleeper hit. The Pulpo de Gallega (Grilled octopus) was the best I've had, and the portions were large. Chorizo a la Sidra (spanish sausage) was delicious and worth the order. Think twice about the Boquerones (smelts/anchovies), they're a bit much. You have to really like anchovies to get through it, my wife quit on me. read more

Located in a quaint cobblestone alley, our waitress was Cara and she was very friendly and attentive. We had the garlic shrimp which was very nice although a bit spicy and the Zarzuela, which was good but perhaps with too much oregano which completely overpowered the delicate fish. The atmosphere is so beautiful at night. The location is in a outdoor walkway type area next to some other stores but it's very peaceful to eat outside. There's also a cat I saw around there; a calico. The shirley temples are exquisite and the chicken alfredo was enjoyable. My mom got the lobster and it was a little too chewy and plain for me. Amazing little spot, especially if you have an appreciation of Spanish cuisine. The location is quaint, charming and picturesque. The list of tapas was impressive. The pulpo de Gallegos was top notch. The rest of the menu made it hard to decide, and my fresh local lobster stuffed with crab meat was enough to make me pause and exhale. Excellent Spanish cousin in most enjoyable Palm passage. One of my favorite spots for leisurely lunch. Excellent consistency of the dishes. Loved the gaspaccio, zarzuella and clams. We chose to have our final night dinner at the Amalia Cafe and couldn't have been happier with our decision. The staff was friendly, dynamic and made sure we had a lovely experience. Rum cocktails, calamari and octopus appetizers were a perfect start. Our entrees were fantastic, surpassed only by the amazing Blueberry Bread Pudding. (I normally dislike Bread pudding, but I couldn't get enough of this one!) We were pleasantly surprised with the impressively reasonable bill for the incredible quality food and service we received. Went without a reservation and they were full. Our waitress May came out and set up an extra table for us so we could dine at Amalia. May was a great, attentive, knowledgeable, and kind server. Nice setup on a side street. We decided to sit and have some drinks and eat a little something. We got there fairly early and so it wasn't no one there. It was 5 of us and the waitress sat us outside and she came over and took our drink order which we ordered some white sangria which was so so at best. They we ordered 2 garlic shrimps. She only heard 1 order so she had to go place another order of garlic shrimp. We asked her if they had bread or rolls but the rolls we $1 per roll in which we ordered 10 rolls so that was $10. Then let's get to the shrimp which was medium at best and you only get 4 shrimp for $14. Way overpriced. They charged $3.50 per medium shrimp when a 2lb medium bag at Costco costs $14. So we pay total $28 for shrimp, $10 for bread and $23 sangria. If you like overpriced food this is the place for you because the shrimp tasted good but just can't get over paying damn near $30 for medium shrimp. Not large or colossal. My recommendation is 2 thumbs down just cause they way overpriced and even with covid I can't see paying those prices read more

In hindsight, we all agreed we should have walked out. I mentioned that the server within 2 feet of us had his mask under his chin and can you please have him put it in properly. She then called me the "mask police" and spoke to me with such anger and disrespect. At this Point we had waited almost 30 minutes for just drinks. My husband was seething. He Asked to see Maynard ( owner) and we were told he was not in yet. The real disappointment here was that when Maynard did arrive he spoke with her and NEVER came over and wore NO MASK ALL EVENING. Again, we should have walked out. The food was Ok. The service was awful. I will NEVER step foot in this establishment again. read more

Now, in most cases some of you may want to find a place that is upscale for the Honeymoon, anniversary, or just want to sink your taste buds into something exquisite. I can understand the need to scour around looking for that "perfect" place or setting! So this place is in a business setting of a building located in downtown Charlotte Amalie. It is close to the waterfront of the bay and dining is outdoors. Now don't let that deter you away. The setting is quite elegant, Restaurant is highly recommended by myself and many others, the food is phenomenal, and the service is above and beyond my expectations! So to give you an idea I have dined at fine steakhouses where the bill toppled $140 easily for just a dinner of two. When we went here for dinner for the evening we thoroughly enjoyed the experience and dining of Amalia Cafe. My wife and myself came here during our honeymoon for a fine dining experience. The service we received was amazing, hands down, one of the best restaurants we have dined at! The menu is a bit small, but don't let that count against them. What they have to offer is enough for anyone to choose something and be happy. When we come back to St. Thomas we will look up Amalia Cafe for the same experience we have encountered. read more

Stuffed peppers were tasty but had too much sauce, paella on the other hand lacked most of flavoring. Rice in paella was bland and was missing that traditional flavoring. Went here for lunch my second day in St Thomas. Ordered the Ensalada Catalana (seared tuna, hard-boiled eggs, asparagus, olives, tomatoes, prosciutto, onions and peppers on a bed of romaine lettuce) with a lime coconut vinaigrette. Best part of the salad was the prosciutto - ridiculously savory. Had the Codillos de Cordero Asados - oven roasted lamb shank and sherry with carrots and pearl onions. Just very well cooked - tender, and juicy, with a side of rice with roasted nuts and raisins (not mentioned in the online menu). But the best part was desert with a blueberry banana bread pudding. (I will add a photo of this later). The owner was there, super friendly, and took the time to greet us. He said Amalia Cafe been open for seven years. I googled it and found the NY Times review, which notes that the chefs are actually from the Dominican Republic, but have all been "extensively" trained in Spanish cuisine, and make the best paella and sangria on island. read more
