AM Donuts has always been the best in Abilene. Sadly, George has passed away, and now his wife runs it. I always go on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, because that's the only time they serve all three different fritters. Apple fritters, Cherry fritters, Blueberry fritters! Oh my! Just the thought makes me hungry! Blueberry is definitely my favorite. Donuts aren't exactly on my diet anymore, but I still stop once in a while! Fresh selection. The blueberry fritter was STILL WARM when we ordered it and soooo good that you just can't have it any other way. The donuts were pretty standard and hard to compete with that perfect fritter. I mean...Honestly I would get a box of just those heavenly blueberry fritters and maybe some croissant type treat. The ladies working were very patient and sweet. The best part is the William Wallace Braveheart cutout in the wall so good. The decor in general is so fun. AM is the most WHACK donut shop I've ever been too. Perhaps the American dream of the owners; You're eating donuts while checking out the Spiderman, Iron Man, etc tin signs and action figures that adorn every nook and cranny. Action figure everywhere! Coca Cola, Marlboro, Classic car stuff too! Owners are Asian so there is also a fish tank (Koi?) and some Buddha wood carving section too. Lot's of indoor plants. There could honestly be a million other interior observations; but let's get to the grub. Yes, AM means breakfast..so donuts, kolaches. But, then there's a chalk board with Thai food served after breakfast hours? Kinda of a central area for condiments in the dining area with traditional condiments for said food with fish sauce, hoisin, and sriracha. OK, the AM grub. Donut holes were tasty bites as well as the cherry fritter. Never seen any fritter besides an apple one; yet kinda the same flavor. Even with the cherry flavor involved. GF's dinosaur chocolate glazed was playful and delicious. I'm still awarding five stars because of the oddity of the place. Only tiny gripe would be my croissant sausage spent a little too much time in the microwave. The classic soft and complex texture of the French delicacy was a bit tough. Stopped by here to pick up donuts for a business meeting. The people working were very nice. I ordered two dozen donuts and they threw in a few extra donuts. Very cute place decorated with pictures on the wall, plants, and a cool giant fish tank. I came from out of town, but if I lived here I would definitely like to sit down and eat breakfast there. My son and I were on a hunting trip Labor Day weekend. Every morning on our way to the hunt, we'd stop into AM donuts and grab a kolache, a donut and a cup of coffee. The food was good, but the service was great. The first two mornings there one young lady. Then Monday morning there was a different woman. Both were very kind and professional but the young lady that helped us the first two mornings was extremely personable and kind. She was the reason we returned the other two days. I got the croissant sandwich and the girl at the counter asked if I wanted it warmed up. I said yes. She threw it in the microwave and when it came out, it was inedible the cheese he'd melted completely into the bread and half of the croissant was likely chewing on a piece of wood. Boston creams were pretty good. Kolaches were more bread than meat. I think the sausage was pretty much the same as most kolaches so you're just getting more bread than typical places but it's pretty tasty. Staff was pretty efficient. Seemed clean enough. read more

I think we got there kind of late (close to 10), not much to choose from. Everything was good not great, the yeast donuts were kind of dry but the cake donuts were *amazing.* Super soft. The frosting is a bit over sweet for me, particularly the maple. The kolaches (koblasniky) were ok, fatty sausages, very small, more of a croissant style dough than the traditional pillowy sweet rolls. My new favorite place for sweets! We are new in town and thanks to Yelp I decided to take the kids here for a sweet fix. The donuts are seriously the best that I have had in Texas. Light, fluffy, toppings that aren't overwhelming or too sweet. My husband said the jalapeño cheddar Kolache was great and it's HUGE! The place is interesting. It's like Lord of the Rings meets Happy Days meets Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon...you'd just have to see it. They also serve food in the evenings some nights that I can't wait to try! I love Pho! So I got doughnuts because damn, they looked good and scrummy I was not let down-they were fresh and poofy at first bite. Their glazed doughnut was just heaven. Loved the blueberry fritter!!! I eat donuts like twice a year, if it's not from here I'm disappointed in my life choices lol if you're going to eat donuts make them the BEST donuts. Melt in your mouth, sweet and still warm, soft, fluffy little pillows of perfection. I'm a tried and true glazed fan but my son loves the more exciting varieties and gets the chocolate with sprinkles. We both always savor every bite when we get them. Obligatory donut holes are awesome too. My favorite thing to get is their outstanding sausage egg and cheese croissant sandwich pocket. It tucks all of the fillings inside this flaky buttery parcel and it's just wonderful. Only bad part is they disappear too fast, I hear customer service department is working on this issue. I cannot even begin to describe how delicious these donuts are. They are always fresh and melt in your mouth. There is always a line so plan ahead but that just shows how great they are! Pho on Fridays and Saturday's is great only thing I might suggest is a smaller bowl option because omg they load up the bowl and I'm about to burst I'm so full. Reminds me of pho places in Dallas. You may think like I did ten dollars for a bowl of pho but it is a lot to eat. Easy two meals which is why I suggest a bowl half the size as an option. Wish you guys served it everyday. We stopped in here on a Sunday afternoon for a dozen doughnuts and we thought that these were some of the best--if not THE best--doughnuts in Abilene. The inside of the bakery is a really eclectic mixture of comic book memorabilia and paraphernalia and other random piece of pop art. The selection is great. We got some glazed, chocolate, long johns, jelly, and apple fritters. The apple fritters are really delicious! We grabbed a dozen, got a bag of doughnut holes, and some milk--our came about to about $12, which we found very reasonable for the size of the doughnuts. We will definitely comeback here! read more

AM tops SM by so many levels Not only is their food delicious but they are the friendliest people I've ever met. The owner, George may not always remember your name, but he knows your story.
