Stopped by for some ice cream on our trip, and while the ice cream itself was delicious and the drive-thru was super convenient, the experience left a bad taste in our mouths-literally and figuratively. We ordered two waffle cones, which were advertised as $3.75 each. However, when we got our total, it came out to $10.70. Confused, we asked about the discrepancy, and the staff casually said, "Oh, that's just tax." But after doing the math (8.25% combined state and city tax), that just didn't add up-it should've been $0.61 in tax, not nearly $3 more. We went back in to get clarification, only to be told that the cone prices had recently increased by $1 each. Even with that adjustment, the math still didn't work. It feels like they're just making up numbers and overcharging customers, which is incredibly frustrating. It's a shame because we're in town all week and had planned to come back nightly, but after this experience, we won't be returning at all. They have so many different kinds of ice cream you won't know what to pick. Get a cone, cup, or on a stick, you won't be disappointed. Lots of different fruit desserts or treats. Update: went back today and the same woman was working and she was nicer...I'm thinking she is just a quiet person. I had a Rosa and OMG my life has been changed forever! I'm knocking off a star because the Mangonada was frozen solid when she handed it to me so all I had was a rock hard treat with Chile and tamarind on top BUT the ice cream here is amazing and while I waited for my mangonada to thaw out I ordered an ice cream cone which was amazing....so maybe it's a good marketing ploy who knows lol The woman behind the counter says it's her sister in law's place....I'd like to come back when someone else is working as this woman wasn't SUPER friendly or helpful...but she was okay. I recently moved here and was so excited to try this new paleteria. Their drinks exceed my expectations! They were AMAZING! But that doesn't mean everyone is super nice here, no. All but one. She was extremely rude to me as a new customer, the whole time she was giving me the rudest stares and talked to me in the most diminishing tone. To top it all off, she gave me all ice in my drink! I thought she did it to my friend too but as it turned out she hadn't given him all ice. Now, this first encounter wasn't the first or last, I have continued to come here because their drinks are quite delicious and wanted to give them another chance! But it really disappointed me to have to deal with such rude service! Everyone else is lovely! This lady needs to really work on her customer service, because I know all I've been is nice to her. I'm very disappointed of this adorable and establishment for still employing a woman this rude! read more

A very cute, local place with some delicious desserts. I'm never sure what to order when I get there, so I just ask the employees there and do what they tell me to. So far, this method has yet to fail me! Their popsicles are wonderful, and the strawberries with cream is especially fantastic--though a bit pricey for my budget. I still think they're worth it, though! This a great place to get all you Mexican candy, ice cream and other sweet treats, I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because it is a little more on the expensive side. Not impressed at all. Poor customer service. I let the lady know it was our first time in and she just seemed irritated with my confliction on what to get. Not to mentiont I had my whole family with me and would clearly be spending $$. (By the way NO other costumers there). The ice cream I got tasted like frost bite. I may not have tasted it if i had covered it in chocolate and toppings however she didn't offer or mention them to me and i opted not to ask after i saw a young girl walk in with her 2 kids (clearly a relative) walk behind and prepare her own ice cream without gloves taking the toppings putting them in her childs mouth then back in the toppings dish. I ordered some Tostilocos and they barley put any fruit in it and barley added any chamoy. I'm very disappointed on how they made it, I could of got more at McDonald's with those 5 dollars I spent for those tostilocos. read more

A small family-owned ice cream shop. That description would likely not get you to stop here. If you don't, that would be a huge loss for you. This is quite simply one of the BEST kept secrets not just in Abilene but in all of Texas. They hand churn all of the ice cream here. They have about 20 flavors on any given day. And not just your ordinary flavors either! How about cantaloupe or banana pecan or chocolate strawberry? They also have many other frozen items, plus excellent homemade drinks such as lemonade, mango, cantaloupe and several others. Although we didn't try them, their Mexican food plates looked very appetizing and generous portions. The portions served here are large. The prices are low compared to the average ice cream store. A large waffle cone runs about $3.25. You can also get prepacked pints and quarts to go. They are happy to let you sample any of their delicious flavors. I know this sounds to good to be true. It is every bit as good as it sounds! I don't think you'll be disappointed regardless of what flavor you try. This was my first time here; it certainly won't be my last! read more

This is definitely a place I would make a point to visit again. Perfect place to bring the family for a quick afterschool treat or just to cool down for a bit. There is no way you would not find a Popsicles or ice cream to please. Yes, I can understand a concern about its location, but it is really not that different from most of Abilene I have seen. The horchata tasted exactly like melted vanilla ice cream. Now, that is actually not my favorite way to drink horchata, but I suspect it would make others very happy. Texas can get unbearably hot so I had a huge craving for ice cream. I normally don't go out to ice cream parlors because most places' desserts are too sweet for my taste. Yet, I enjoyed the ice cream I got from here. The joint is a cute Mexican ice cream shop with a variety of flavors and candies. If you order a small ice cream, you would actually get a huge waffle cone with a good amount of ice cream. The prices are very cheap too! I definitely recommend people to come here. read more

I drive in from Dallas a few times a year and Mary's Paleteria is my first stop every time. All their ice cream is amazing but I normally get a giant pina-colada (non-alcoholic). I don't know how they make those fruit drinks but they rock. One of my favorite stops in Abilene for sure. Tnly down side is a bad location. read more

I love this place! i just went for the first time today with a friend and it is mexico in one store! Order the horchata drink! It's delicious, the ice cream is so culturally intact! I got the cucumber,watermelon, and pineapple with limon and chile. It was awesome!! I even put a little valentina sauce on it. Want a just a little snack... buy fritos or potato chips ask them to put cream on it and valentina sauce. TO DIE FOR!!! So good... =D read more
