Hmmm. $7.25 for a cup of ice cream. Finally tried the new place. Other reviews are correct. A loooong wait for a cup of ice cream. A vanilla base is poured on a freeze pad and your ingredients are added in. Mix, mix, chop, chop, and then spread out very thinly. When it freezes, a putty knife rolls it into tight rolls that are put in your cup. Top with sauces or goodies and your ready! My caramel Wall-e was ok, but Glenda's Levi was a chocolate lovers dream. Wow! We were blown away. My family came into Abilene and were looking for some ice cream. This looked different so we gave it a try and were amazed at the ingenuity of how the ice cream is made and rolled into these amazing creations. Delicious. The Annie is my absolute favorite. Probably the best ice cream you can get in Abilene. Although, it is a bit pricey. I'm assuming that's due to the ability to watch your ice cream be rolled. This factors in to one more predicament.. the wait time is almost always 45 minutes. Just a rather quick review. Roll Shack is one of the avant-garde type ice cream shops that have cropped up in the last few years. It is an ice cream dish that is made from a "cream type" base that is poured into a round cylinder and then it is manipulated on an ice cold platter to incorporate your ingredients of choice and to thicken up the base. After everything is mixed and the ice cream is the right consistency it is spread ultra thin on top of the platter. Then a putty knife, for lack of a better term, is used to scrape the ice cream from the platter into long rolls which then get placed in a cup and topped with goodies. It's quite a lot of ice cream and the toppings are thoughtful. I enjoyed it. Because of the method, it takes about 3-5 min for them to make each cup. If it is at all busy this brings the place to a halt quickly. Even with 3 stations up and running u can plan on waiting 20-30 min easily. They told us that at the really busy times, people have waited 45-60 min. Overall the ice cream is pretty good and the staff were very friendly. 4 Stars read more

This was the worst service I have ever had. The two high school employees did not care.. they served 3 rolls in the cup and the kid was cutting the rolls to make it look like it was full. So not to get into it with high school kids I asked what the males name was so that I could just make my complaint to a manager that he said he could get on the phone. Who in the world when asked your name will not give it to you? He refused to give me his name... said he didn't feel comfortable giving his name. What would help with that would be to require at the VERY least that your employees wear masks, instead of having them sign some manipulative waiver saying they aren't sick and that the shop (that is putting them AND the public in danger) isn't liable if they DO get sick. The Roll Shack in Abilene is a wonderful place to stop by for a delicious ice cream treat. Each young person working behind the counter had a smile on their face and it was obvious that they enjoyed doing their jobs. They were very polite also. The owner, Jerry Salinas greeted me personally as he did many of the customers with a smile and a handshake. The atmosphere is charming with the decorations and outdoor seating that is available. The most difficult thing I had to do was decide what to eat but I decided on the Levi since I prefer chocolate and vanilla ice cream. There are several photos available online and honestly I couldn't stop to take a photo before I ate my treat. I spoke with Jerry about the ice cream and he explained that every step in preparing the ice cream is done in this shop. It is truly hand crafted. This ice cream easily rivals the most expensive and popular ice cream chains that I have ever tried.
