BLUF: Locally made ice cream scooped up my friendly staff and served out of the fray of downtown Annapolis. From what I hear, there are several Always Ice Cream shops now but I visited the location in West Annapolis. On a cold December evening we were able to get parking right out front and we received a cheerful greeting upon entering. Always Ice Cream has unique flavors so we had to study the menu a bit to decide what to get. The staff was great about answering our questions too along the lines of what's in . . .? In the end I had a single scoop but the staff was willing to do two half singles so I could try two flavors. For the record, I love that! I had Egg Nogg and another ice cream with a vanilla base that had a chocolate/fudge swirl and other good stuff mixed into it. Both were solid choices and I am looking forward to trying more flavors, especially as they change with the seasons. This is a small shop so there are only two two-top tables inside. We sat and ate a little bit of our ice cream before heading out. I'm already looking forward to the return. read more

This is a great neighborhood ice cream shop. We visited here on a Sunday night for a sweet treat. The line was out the door, easily 10 people waiting inside and 15 or so in line outside. The 3 ladies that were working were fast and very courteous. Plenty of ice choices to select from. The ice cream was worth the wait and very reasonably priced. A must visit. read more

Our first visit was today--my husband has been clamoring for ice cream. It was great. The two young women manning the counter were awesome--very friendly and helpful. Always Ice Cream was our last stop on our way home to NoVa after a beach day with the kids at Sandy Point. Everyone got chocolate brownie brownie better which was decadent and chock full of brownie chunks. We got generous samples before choosing, and portions were also generous. A small is 2 scoops and a kiddie size is one scoop. The employee was so friendly! There's also a clean bathroom (single use), which is a huge plus with little kids. The inside is pretty small, so we opted to eat outside on a table with an umbrella. We had no problem getting street parking right nearby. Definitely recommend! read more

This little Ice Cream shop was such a delight to step into while we were staying near by. I love embarking on a trip with no real plans in store other than spending time with friends and family and enjoying whatever it is that unfolds. I had the rare opportunity to join my sister and nephew in Annapolis while my nephew attended swim camp at the U.S. Naval Academy, we stayed at an air bnb a few miles away and I happened to see this little shop on the way to the house! My dessert stomach and Ice Cream loving heart beckoned to be subdued by their sweet offerings. I asked my sis if we could get some ice cream before we picked up my nephew and of course she told me he wanted ice cream his first night there, the night before. So we stopped by and promised to take him there after picking him up. I ordered their creamy coffee ice cream with a chocolate oreo ice cream in a cup. Both were delicious! They even had T-shirts for purchase and pretty rad stickers too! I got a shirt for my nephew and my sis and I each got a shirt. I couldn't pass up a rad sticker for my nephew and boyfriend too. That night, my nephew enjoyed coffee and cotton candy. He was so happy we went there! The three of us enjoyed ice cream later on that week and though they were busy we managed to get a spot outside to enjoy it. I was so glad to see this little shop busy. I was very pleased with the flavors and service here. I had the cookie monster, my daughter had the cake batter, and my husband had the oatmeal creme pie flavor. I loved my cookie monster flavor but the cake batter flavor?? OMG. It legit tastes like you're licking the cake batter off of a spoon. Whenever I go to Annapolis again, I'm definitely stopping by to try new flavors... P.S. the oatmeal creme pie tastes just like an actual oatmeal creme pie, but it just isn't my thing :). My husband enjoyed it and I had a small taste and it was good. If you're ever in Annapolis, I'd highly recommend you give them a try. Always/Annapolis Ice Cream has been on my 'must try' list for a while, as I've drooled over photos of their specialty flavor combination scoops on Instagram, but unfortunately my experience visiting didn't live up to my hype from photos-I really wanted to like them...but my honest Yelp review...the quality & price compared to other local neighborhood ice cream parlors was lacking. I had one flavor in mind when visiting-the birthday cake- other than that what my daughter picked- what hubby picked- what my mom picked, who cared..I wanted birthday cake. The birthday cake ice cream was ok- it was stuffed with cake batter ingredients, but while I thought that would be a pro, it was a con because the vanilla cake was blan stale tasting in a thick plain vanilla ice cream with no pop. The photo made it look drool worthy but the flavor isn't craveable. Specifically, my woe with the experience...visiting from our small town in PA, where delectable ice cream joints are a dime a dozen with low prices, large cups, and high flavors- my mom was shocked to see $4.65 for one scoop. I let her know this was the average cost for the area and usually we don't mind paying that to support small businesses but then seeing the smaller size scoop cup, I really couldn't have Always' back. It was a really low quality, small scoop for the price tag-the ice cream barely rose above the cup edge! I was also a bit upset, becuase I asked the staff if offered smaller baby scoops for for my daughter, was told yes they could do that, got a very tiny scoop in a normal sized cup, then discovered on my check this "baby scoop" was charged a normal $4.65 scoop price- I didn't' hate my experience, but I have to be honest..other ice cream parlors in the area (Charmery, Bmore Licks, Cindy's) have reasonable family options (i.e baby scoops are $1-3, the 1 scoop cups are decent portion sized-at least rising above the edge of the cup) and the flavors are bolder..I do appreciate how much this company does for the community, but I wouldn't frequent enough to fill the sticker card; it's not affordable or worth it like others are. read more

I tried the mint chocolate chip ice cream in a waffle cone. Overall it was good. Nothing spectacular. They do give you quite a bit for just one scoop. Kinda pricey for what it is. Staff were friendly. One thing they do offer is a 'soft serve' which they use a machine to turn regular ice into the soft serve texture. Placed right outside of the bridge into Annapolis, just before the Naval academy, Always is becoming a local favorite. I first got to try the ice cream at the weekly Odenton Foodtruck festival. They have a variety of flavors, ranging from more traditional sweet cream and strawberry to more instagramable flavors like cookie monster, peanut butter oreo, etc... I got to try their strawberry, peanut butter oreo, and cookie monster. Honestly, I recommend just going for the classic flavors that look like it does not have a lot of additional food coloring. They are true to their flavor. I was disappointed by their cookie monster flavor but pleasantly surprised by the strawberry and peanut butter oreo flavors. They do not skimp out on their toppings/ flavorings. I feel like it's one of the few decent ice cream places in Anne Arundel county. I definitely recommend if you are in the area. read more

It is an expensive scoop, but still worth it for us once in a while as a special treat! They are always rotating flavors so you will never get bored if you enjoy something new! Don't believe the hype! Quality of the product has gone WAY down since the business was purchased from Annapolis Ice Cream Company. They are obviously cutting costs by skimping. Prime example is the oh so popular Cookie Monster flavor. It used to be chock full of of giant pieces of cookies and and cookie dough. Now it's little more than vanilla ice cream that's dyed Cookie Monster blue. Also, the prices are higher at the West Annapolis location. I guess they want to gauge all the kiddos from the elementary school right next door. Shameful!! read more
