My wife has been coming to location since their opening in 2007 and has been a loyalist ever since. Alicia and Tracy are amazing as they opened this place together as family. Locally owned and small business so what else do you want or need for these two professionals. First class in side and out as well as survivor from the Covid disaster. No better business to support in the 37206. My wife's hair always looks awesome and it makes her feel wonderful on every single visit. Hair, pedicures, and manicures are available. Absolutely great space and impeccable service. Love this spot so pleas show your love! read more

My haircut is ok but my stylist was not very personable. I'm somewhat insecure about my hair and have never really styled it. Despite telling her that I don't style my hair and don't know how, she kept asking me about how I wanted it styled. I don't know? I don't understand the options presented? Whatever you think? Whatever is easier for you? How many ways can I explain that I don't really understand the way you cut my hair much less what to do with it now. She also explained that she figured out how to do her hair in high school. Well I'm in my 30s and still trying to figure it out. No help here. Left feeling kind of crummy about myself. read more

Amber did a wonderful job! I had just moved to Nashville, trusted some recommendations that I saw online, made an appt with her ... and it worked out perfectly! I'm blonde and wanted a trim and highlights and it turned out wonderful. She also was super direct about if I needed a partial or full and recommended a partial. Really appreciated that for the pocket book! Haha read more

Everyone at Altra is the best! I came in wanting a shaggy bob... I just explained to Kristen what I wanted and she nailed it! I didn't even have to show her a picture. She took the time to explain how to style my hair in different ways. And offered to save my hair for donation (it was super long), I didn't even have to ask. She is wonderful!! Thank you Kristen! read more

Altra Salon - Hair Salons Near Me - Nashville, Tennessee

A friend of mine recommended Tracy @ Altra and I'm so glad I went! After my consultation I was very excited to see what he could do with my self-damaged hair. I ha processed it so much on my own that there was breakage two inches from the root. I will have to say he was a miracle worker!!! My hair feels so healthy and looks amazing! I can't wait to see what he does with my color in a few weeks. Check out the photos to see my before and after!!! read more

Altra Salon - My hair was so damaged before - I couldn't be happier now!!! - Hair Salons Near Me - Nashville, Tennessee

Altra is ultra awesome! I have gotten my 'do done here more than a few times, have sat for a few different stylists who work there, and I gotta say...this place is the jam. If you want a stellar cut, color, or anything hair-related for a decent price that is on par with their talent AND what is actually realistic to pay for a hair service...I mean, come on, maybe I'm crazy but I'd rather spend $100+ on anything BUT my hair... Altra is your salon. And the new-ish gal Kristin is fantastic! Super-friendly, super talented, very fun to chat with and a whiz with the sciss. Go to there! read more

Love this place!! My long search for an excellent haircut/style/color in Nashville is over! I see Christina and she is nothing short of wonderful. She is down to earth, a delight and super smart with hair! I've seen her for over a year now and am always ecstatic with the results. She hears me out and helps me get what I want. My fiancé (who HATES trusting strangers with his hair) needed a haircut before our wedding and she did such a great job, he came back raving about how wonderful the experience was! All the staff has been helpful, I wouldn't go anywhere else! read more

Altra Salon - Hair Salons Near Me - Nashville, Tennessee

I went here yesterday because my long hair was in desperate need of a trim. I booked because when I looked them up online they were offering a 25% discount for new customers. With that I was set! Dick cut my hair and he was very attentive and gave me exactly what I needed. The only problem I had that when I came (early thank goodness!) the receptionist had somehow lost my appointment that I had scheduled literally 5 days before! Luckily, the other person had canceled so they fit me in anyways, but I would probably call in confirm just in case in the future. The salon itself is nice, had a nice little sitting area, and parking was super easy since they have their own lot! read more

I LOVE Altra Salon and everyone who works there. I started getting my haircut here on a recommendation from a friend and it has been a wonderful experience every time. Kristina cuts my hair and does a great job listening and giving me exactly what I ask for. I also had my hair and makeup for my wedding done here along with the hair for all my bridesmaids. Tracy Hill gave me the most beautiful up do of my life and made my wedding pictures flawless. I highly recommend Altra Salon for all your salon needs! read more

I went to Altra Salon after reading great Yelp Reviews, and I couldn't have been happier. They got me in the day of my call for an appointment with Kristen. I showed up about 15 minutes early and they got me right in, which was really refreshing compared to other salons I've been to where my appointment is NEVER on time. I talked with Kristen about my style needs and she so got it. She gave me a great haircut and took the time to style my hair as I normally do to make sure it was going to look the way I wanted it-- I truly felt listened to. The salon was well appointed with roomy stations and a really great vibe. Super relaxing shampoo + massage. Good products. I had a great experience and will most definitely be back-- the 25% off for new customers was pretty cool, too! read more

Worst hair experience EVER! After completely messing up my color and ruining highlights I already had, i should have left, but instead I tell her I'm not comfortable with the color BUT let's move on to the cut. Apparently I hurt the poor young girl (who was least experienced there and the owner's "baby sister" - look out!) was too "upset" to finish. For questioning something different done to my hair - something not described under ANY service they offer there, because I didn't like the way they were coloring it (but willing to overlook that) they gave me choice of correcting color or nothing else!! No cut, no eyebrows. The owner offered to correct it "when she could fit it in" but did not offer to cut or do my eyebrows by anyone then or later. She literally tore my cape off and said "oh you're wearing our smock", said loudly there was no charge bc they don't want customers who leave not happy (!!!!) oh I was REALLY happy leaving there with wet hair trying to find someone at the last minute who could correct the color (can't be done) AND cut my hair AND do my eyebrows. By stroke of luck, I did! I found someone who gave me the best eyebrows I've ever had. And I found someone to do a "quick small trim" and then have me back to finished the cut when I have more time for half price! These other places were within .5 miles and 1 miles from Altra Salon. They get one star because Cheryl was nice And fit me in within a day. But now I wish she hadn't. Be careful which "service" you choose (or don't choose) Left with my hair worse than when I came in - much worse. Whatever they used made my scalp break out in a rash and my hair has been falling out! Do not be fooled by all these comments - or go with someine experienced and formally formally trained if you must. Don't say you haven't been warned!!! read more

Amber is hands-down best. Get your haircuts from her! And I love Altra--their whole staff is amazing.

After reading the "yes yes yes" review for curly hair I decided to give it a shot! I hadn't had a haircut in over a year and it's been 3 years since I've had a haircut I liked. I just had a baby so into of my hair being the longest, and most shapeless it's ever been, it was falling out by the handfuls! Aaaagh! I went to Nicole and I spotted her in the salon and HOPED TO GOD she was my stylist b/c she's got Beautiful curly hair and I always look at my stylists hair before they touch mine... It's gorgeous! I was scared I'd have to do the post baby cliche and lip it all off but she saves it! Now I feel like a hot mom! Yay! read more

My stylist was rude and impolite when I expressed my preferences and pointed out something that I wasn't happy with as nicely as I could. She became extremely defensive. Bottom line: there is a lot of attitude in this salon for mediocre work. There was another stylist who was asked to shampoo me, to which she replied with a scowl and an eye roll. I don't like giving bad reviews, but this was unacceptable and I was very unhappy with my experience here. My appointment felt very awkward and uncomfortable and I will not be returning. read more

I can't justify spending $60+ on a haircut. For the most part, my hair is long and straight. All that's needed is a quick trim of the ends and voila! For a long time, my mom cut my hair. No experience neccessary. Then I had a few friends here and there who dabbled on the side. But I always feel guilty... So I hit up Altra shortly after they opened. The owner Alicia cuts my hair - and she rocks. She gets that I'm not a hair person and cuts/styles it appropriately. No muss, no fuss. Plus the price can't be beat - and everyone is very nice. read more

I was recently visiting Nashville from West Virginia. While there, I decided that it was time to cut off my hair. Unfortunately, I was only in town for one day - I was looking for something a little on the punky side, so I called around a couple hair salons in the area that seemed like they had that sort of vibe, but none of them had any openings. Based on the positive reviews I read, I decided to call Altra - they were able to fit me in very quickly and were super pleasant to talk to on the phone. I was a little nervous when I walked into Altra - the salon gives off a very mainstream, professional feel that, frankly, isn't really my style. My appointment was scheduled with Amber (I'm almost positive that was her name?), and after a short wait she greeted me very warmly. I explained to her exactly what I wanted - my hair was about halfway down my back, and I was looking for something more chin-length. I'm not terribly picky about my hair, but there were several things that I was concerned about - mainly that I have a fairly weak chin, so anything above chin-length doesn't tend to be flattering. She listened very attentively and made me feel incredibly comfortable. I was absolutely delighted with everything about Amber's work. She explained everything she was doing as she did it, asked my opinion about various aspects of the cut as she went, and gave me what is without a doubt the best haircut I've ever had. On top of that, she showed me how to style it (something I've always struggled with), so for the first time in my life I'm able to make my hair look like it did when I left the salon. Despite the amazing service I received, the haircut was only $35 - definitely cheaper than all the other salons I called, and worth much more. Since I left I've gotten nothing but positive feedback about my hair - several coworkers of mine noted how well Amber did the layering in the back, and I even had a woman stop me in the street to tell me how great it looked. Next time I'm planning on visiting Nashville, I'll be sure to schedule the trip around when I need a haircut. read more

I have been going to Altra salon for a couple of years now. I can only afford to get a few haircuts a year from her, but it is worth it to me to get a few good haircuts instead of a lot of terrible ones. She is always willing to accommodate what I want, appointments are on time, she doesn't mind that I'm not in every 6 weeks or give me a hard time about it, and she is able to work with my hair which is very long, very thick, and not typical caucasian hair. Customer for as long as I'm in Nashville. read more

I called around East Nashville today hoping to find an opening and luckily Altra had two stylists available for a walk-in. I was given the option of a $50 haircut or $35 haircut with a less experienced stylist. I opted for the "less experienced" stylist who I soon found out had four years of experience! I was expecting someone straight out of school. Amber was a wonderful stylist - she freshened up my current style and gave me some low maintenance styling tips. A shampoo, cut, and blow out took less than 45 minutes. I will definitely be back to Altra Salon. read more

The people who work there are friendly and the place is clean. Overall, I've been disappointed. My Mother-In-Law went there on our wedding day and told me that the girl hadn't listened to her and has been disappointed with her hair in all of our pictures. Despite her opinion, I read reviews and decided to have a very expensive treatment done to my hair. The treatment didn't take and my hair is no different than it was before. I scheduled a consult with them to find out if the treatment had been done incorrectly or if I had done something wrong with it- All I got was two of them trying to convince me that my hair was much better than it had been before the treatment. They reluctantly offered to do the treatment again but quickly insisted that it wouldn't work if it hadn't the first time. I left, disappointed. I was mostly disappointed because I've consulted with 2 other hair stylists who told me that the treatment clearly hadn't taken and that I should really contact the people who did it because most salons would want to know and they would fix it right away. Maybe another salon would have.... read more

This was my first time in a salon. I usually stick w/ barbershops because I'm afraid of the fauxhawk or front flip. I decided to branch out and go to the new Salon in East Nashville. The owners used to be stylists at Bishop Salon and this is their first ownership venture. Everyone was very nice, the place looked great and very upscale (check out the website). My stylist was Kristen Whittington. She did a great job. Knew what she was doing, asked the right questions, and I ended up with the best haircut I've had in a long time. read more

I really liked this place, I got great service, she knew exactly what I wanted and went right to work! I believe $44 for a decent hair cut is very well worth the money, I would recomend the place to any one. read more

The best!! I drive to Nashville from Athens, AL just for Alicia's skilled cutting and styling. You know how it is when you find the perfect one who does the perfect cut? I wish I could take Altra Salon with me when I move to San Antonio in Jan 2010 . Luckily I will get to come back to Nashville each month for work......and Alicia's cut! Check it out. You will not be disappointed. read more

Kristen W. gave me the best haircut I've ever had! I've been to high end and lower end salons, and I'll never go anywhere else again! I'm very picky and I can't believe how good she is! Nice salon and affordable too! I will recommend her to everyone! read more

Just got my hair cut and highlighted by Alicia. I love it!! The salon is easy to find, parking is no problem, everyone is friendly and professional. And, the prices are fair! I am so very pleased with my "New Do" because I'm not the typical head of hair. I've been growing out my naturally curly, reddish-blondish hair for a while now. For the first time in my life I can get it into a ponytail!! That's a big deal because I work out a few days a week and plus ponytails just ROCK! Now my new look shows off more curls, has a much nicer shape and flaunts exciting, yet natural looking blonde highlights!! All that plus I can still rock the ponytail! Oh yea! Alicia is sweet, smart and very attentive. She also has naturally curly hair so she had some helpful tips about styling. I am so glad I found Alicia. I'll definitely be back and will gladly recommend her to anyone who asks! read more

I just moved to Nashville from Cincinnati where I had been seeing my same stylist for years! I was really nervous to try a new salon (I have a WHOLE LOT of wild, frizzy, kinky, and stubborn hair, which can be awful for anyone who isn't used to curly hair), but I saw the positive yelp reviews and that they use Moroccan Oil products (which if you have curly hair and don't use, get on that train, now!), so I thought I'd give them a try. I emailed the salon for an appointment and they got back to me within 30 minutes. I warned them that I have a lot of hair and might need extra time, and they actually listened and scheduled me for extra time with Alicia, their "curly hair expert". When I arrived at the salon, they got me settled and offered and complementary drink, and allowed me to look at their products and sit. Although Alicia was with another client, she came up to me almost immediately and introduced herself. She brought me back, listened to what I wanted, and let the assistant (Jamie) shampoo my hair. Everyone was very professional and the salon was clean and sleek. Once she got my hair cut, she and Jamie both blew dry my hair and straightened it (which I appreciate, because with my hair it can take hours to blow out). The cut looks fabulous, I can't wait to see how it grows out! I will certainly be back! read more

I was disappointed with Altra. I really wanted to like it and overall it was good, but I was mad about how they handled my stylist being too busy. When I called to request a specific person, I made the appointment, but when I got there she was running behind. No big deal. The owner offered to give me a free conditioning treatment - sounds great! I didn't care since I wasn't in a hurry. Then, a girl with a similar name, came over and introduced herself and started the appointment. I wasn't thinking much about it since I was new and maybe I just misunderstood the name of the person that I wanted to see, but during the appointment, the stylist mentioned how the person I came to see, was too busy! So she filled in! I was so disappointed. First, because they didn't give me the option of saying if I wanted a different person. And because this girl cut my hair alright, but I requested the other person since she got reviews on here about cutting curly hair. So I was royally disappointed and I thought it was rude of the salon not to even ask me if I minded, instead they just filled in with a girl with a similar name. So I will not be going back. I liked the owner until I overheard her whisper to the girl washing my hair that she might have to cut it. Bottom line - I'm not stupid and to suggest that I didn't know that I didn't get my hair cut by the person that I requested is ridiculous. Oh well...I can always find a better salon. read more

From the quick response to my email request for an appointment to phone call with Cheryl to understand my needs, my entire experience with Altra was above and beyond and true customer service in every sense of the definition. My hair was cut and styled by the fabulous Tracy. Tracy listened to my needs and offered suggestions and did a beautiful job. My hair hasn't looked this good in forever. Everyone is fun, warm and welcoming. Cannot wait until my next appointment. Thank you all so much for treating me like a queen. read more

My mother, sister, and I have gotten our hair done exclusively from Alicia for the past almost 9 years...and there's a reason for that! We would not have dreamed of going anywhere else when she left her previous salon and opened Altra, and this salon has given us nothing but top-notch service. Having gone to college in Murfreesboro, I made the 45-minute drive for every haircut I had because i've never once had an experience that was anything less than amazing and I will always be a loyal customer of Altra! They do not hire anyone who is sub-par and everyone i've encountered has been very professional and eager to meet your needs. read more

I went twice hoping it would get better, but quite the opposite. Both times I went it took over four hours for color and highlights, my hair is past my shoulders but not out of the ordinary long. And both times she messed up the color, and the second time she fried my hair to the point it broke off. Nice people, but not competent stylists. Do not waste your time or money here. read more
