Let me preface this by saying I would've given a 2-2.5 but my husband rated it higher despite his meal being the one that was subpar. We got there around 5:30-6:00 on a Saturday and it was busy although we got seated right away. This is a typical Greek diner which we knew before coming so our expectations were adjusted. We also had been here a couple times in the past for family breakfast/lunch. This time we both ended up getting breakfast for dinner- my husband had steak and scrambled eggs with home fries and toast. I ordered sunny side up eggs with beef and home fries and toast. We also did mozzarella sticks for an appetizer. They came out (not home made but we didn't expect that) and they were lukewarm with cold marinara sauce. Then our entrees came out. Our toast was not toasted? More like sort of stale bread. I was whatever about it but my husband requested his be toasted which our waitress was agreeable to. My eggs were a little runny but home fries were decent and the toast was...bread. I thought the beef option would be more like gyro strips but it was marinated hunks of beef. Tasted fine but not what I expected. My husband said his steak was cooked perfect but his scrambled eggs a little overdone. The waitress completely forgot his toast until the end of the meal and it was burnt. He couldn't eat all of it due to this. The price was below average for our area. Would I come back? Maybe if I wanted some Greek and probably get the souvlaki since it is highly rated. I'm hoping it was just an off night. read more

the food was disgusting i wouldn't feed it to my dog. also the waitress was a little older so she kept getting our order wrong. when the bill came out we didn't have an issue with paying for the stuff we picked over (couldn't eat the whole thing because it was disgusting) and my boyfriend had a whole plate he didn't TOUCH , they still expected us to pay for everything besides an orange juice which had black stuff floating in it. service was 5/10 and food was 0/10 yuck!!! read more

I love Alton's! I have been coming here since I was a little girl. I grew up in Depew off of French Rd. And my Grammy lived off of Dick Rd. We went to church every Sunday at St. Barnabas and more often than not we ended up at Alton's as a group for breakfast after mass, and I loved it. As a kid, I was an incredibly picky eater. For my breakfasts I would not eat any eggs, meats, or potatoes. I was a pancakes and waffles kind of girl, and adhered strictly to these two items. As an adult, I have branches out a bit more and will eat all of the aforementioned items happily, but I still love some waffles and pancakes! My husband and I found ourselves here for a late dinner after a trip to hospice nearby. We were in need of greasy deep fried forget your worries foods. We each got a melt sandwich, which are served with fries. We also got mozzarella sticks and onion rings. Everything was delicious and really hit the spot. The chicken finger melt was really done, next time I'd get the blue cheese on the side instead of inside it though. A couple things to know: *the entire menu is available from open to close *you pay up at the cashier counter when you are ready to head out. They take cash and credit. read more

It's always very sad when a Greek family restaurant starts cutting corners, usually that indicates that it's time to move on. This has been our go to souvlaki place for years now, and they've always had good salads until now. The last couple of times that we ordered salads they were just okay, and today was abysmal. If you call them to order takeout you get a recorded message to order online, the online menu says you can ADD shrimp to the Chicken Tuscan Salad for a fee. So we did that. We picked up the two salads, got them home, and there's no chicken and just 5 small shrimp. Clearly a mistake has been made here, so I call them. The woman I spoke with told me that the online ordering system is wrong and that I paid almost $17 for a salad with 5 small shrimp. To be fair to that woman she is very loyal to her business and was willing to die on that hill that she thinks it's reasonable to pay extra to get a minuscule amount of shrimp instead of chicken even though their online ordering menu says ADD and not substitute. She did eventually allegedly refund me $2 and told me that the owner would call me on Tuesday. So I paid almost $15 for a salad with 5 small shrimp 1/16th of an Apple, and was mostly cranberries. My wife said it was the worst salad she has ever had, and is trying quite hard not to throw up while I'm writing this. So let's talk about my buffalo chicken salad. Everything that was supposed to be there was there which was good, but then I had more hard ends of the romaine lettuce hearts than I had actual romaine lettuce, and the hard inedible end pieces of some of the carrots as well. Friendly service, reasonable prices, great food. All the things you'd expect in a neighbourhood eatery. This is kind of like a local Cracker Barrel, food wise, with Greek food added on. Meaning lots of comfort food like meat loaf, burgers, and all day breakfast offerings, but also souvlaki and gyros. I got the Philly, and my spouse got the sandwich they always get at diners and mom and pop eateries-a patty melt, extra cheese. It didn't need the extra cheese. It was greasy and delicious in all the ways a patty melt should be. My Philly was loaded and huge. It could've done with a little extra cheese, but didn't really need it. I'm just being greedy because I don't usually eat cheese, having a complete dairy intolerance and all. The staff was friendly and they circled around the rooms, coffee pot in hand. Our server forgot my spouse's coffee til we were almost done, but it's ok. Only thing I wouldn't do again is get the baklava. I was assured it was homemade, so ordered a piece to take with me. It was a standard sized piece, but was soggy and stale tasting. Oh, and it was $7.50! I was expecting maybe 4 bucks, not that much. Ended up throwing it away as it was not worth the intestinal distress from eating gluten that the Philly was worth. We'll definitely come back though, as it's close to our new home. read more

I'm not sure why this is so highly rated. It is a decent restaurant for a late night Nosh if needed. Service is mediocre at best. After my food was delivered no one showed up again until I actually had to get up and go to the cashier to pay my bill. The meatloaf, usually a nice comfort food staple was hard and flavorless. Stopped in for a chicken souvlaki and rice pudding. Please keep in mind during this review that I have another place that has always been a personal favorite for chicken souvlaki's. The service here was wonderful and it seems to be a well liked place as it was pretty busy the day I visited. The chicken on the salad was seasoned well, I just prefer romaine lettuce over iceberg. The rice pudding was delightful and was presented with a mound of whipped cream (whipped cream makes everything better). Overall, I will stick to my favorite place when it comes to salad. However, I'd be open to stopping back in to try a different entree or another round of rice pudding. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE!!! my family and I went here last week, we were so looking forward to a nice dinner out seeing as we cant afford to go out often. I didn't eat all day so I could save my appetite for dinner and I ordered the Tuscan salad with chicken...the whole meal I thought something tasted funny but played it off as maybe it was the crumbled blue cheese, but then I gave my daughter some pieces of my chicken and she said she didnt like it and this girl loves chicken! This diner and meal hit the spot tonight while we were out for our pre-Christmas Eve shopping extravaganza. Our server Jenna was prompt, friendly and informatative. She had some good suggestions for dinner which were delicious. We shared a bottle of the $15 Pinot Grigio which was light and fruity. A good pairing with our meal. I started with the New England clam chowder. The flavor was very good with large pieces of clam and potato. I prefer my soups to be a little warmer than the temperature this one was, and my pop thought it was perfect for eating right away. I was craving roast beef on weck and Alton's did not disappoint! This dish was incredible. I asked for the fries to be extra crispy, which they were. The beef was juicy and piled high on a toasted weck roll. A side of the dill sauce was a good additional for dipping the French fries. My sisters both got the chicken souvlaki dinner with Greek potatoes, salad and pita bread. The chicken was tender and marinated through and through. My pop had the NY strip steak which was also cooked just right with plenty of flavor. To complete our dinner we shared one piece of the baklava layered cheesecake! There are not enough words to describe this delectable dessert. The baklava was flaky and sweet. My husband and I came here specifically for the calamari and the chicken souvlaki. We haven't been here in atleast a year. The host sits us down at a booth and another lady hands us menus, then another waitress comes over frantically and tells us that we are in the wrong seats and we need to move. Um...what? Turns out there was already a lady sitting there but we were seated in her booth when she went to the bathroom. We were walked around the entire restaurant before they sat us. Then we were very disappointed to find out that the Calamari was taken off the menu. They always had the biggest calamari dish! (Maybe it was just this location?) So we skipped an appetizer and went right for the souvlaki. It's delicious, but I wish they would clean their grills or something. The chicken always tastes like breakfast sausage. This was my first time here, having found it after quickly searching for a place to grab lunch after dropping my car off to get work done in the area. The place didn't look like much from the outside, but the parking lot was packed...much more so than the surrounding few restaurants. The inside has a 'small town diner' feel to it - nothing fancy but home-y and welcoming. The menu is quite large - your typical diner foods but with a Greek influence. Our waitress was very nice and prompt throughout our time there. I was with my boyfriend and we decided to split the bowl of chili and the open faced chicken souvlaki dish based on the waitress's suggestion. (She said it was there most popular dish and very good) I would have to agree with her! While the base of the salad was nothing special, the chicken tenderloins were perfectly done and their homemade dill dressing was delicious. All together I really enjoyed the dish and the meal as a whole. Chili was tasty as well. This was a good amount of food for the two of us too. While we finished everything, we were definitely full after splitting the chili and salad. The entire bill with the food + two coffees was about $22 so very reasonable. Went here last night because I was just feeling like diner food. I wish yelp would allow you to give half stars because this is definitely worthy of another half star. We came at 8pm. The place was extremely busy but we didn't have to wait at all. We sat immediately which is nice when you have two toddlers with you. Upon seating our server came over immediately and took our drink orders and left us to look over the menu. I decided on a patty melt and bowl of chili, my husband got the buffalo finger melt (we always split sandwiches). The kids got fingers and a pancake. My husband also ordered the sampler for the table. I got a strawberry shake as well. It was delicious, made with vanilla ice cream which is my favorite way to make all shakes. It was thick and had to be scooped out with a .... fork. I would suggest bringing a spoon with the shake. I also saw in other pictures from yelpers they got the tin cup with their shake. I didn't get a tin cup shake with mine .... The chili was okay. Nothing to go back for. Not spicy enough for my palette, had decent flavor. They could kick it up a notch. The sampler was made wrong... usually you put stuff down in the fryer like mozz sticks or pizza logs last because they take the shortest amount of time compared to chicken fingers. When we received them they were cold and gross compared to the piping hot onion rings and chicken fingers. My patty melt wasn't good at all. The best part was the rye bread. The patty was huge and tasteless. The meat to bread ratio was off and the onions and mushrooms were still hard and non existant . I asked for them to put thousand island on the Melt. Thank goodness because it saved it from being spit out. I only took a bite. Thankfully my husband and I always split our sandwiches . The Buffalo finger melt was very good. I would go back for it alone. It was creamy with the blue cheese tomato mixture and the bread was delicious. The fries were standard frozen out of the bag diner fries. Nothing to be excited about. First the bun like it just came out the oven. Fresh lettecue and tomatoes And the beef cooked to perfection. First bite felt like a prize fight And you've been training for months but Bang your hit with that combination that you didn't see coming. But your glad you got caught. And as I delightful enjoyed each bite Hamburger against tatse buds. And down goes T. B And as I sat there caught up in a daze I'm asking myself what can I compare this hamburger with. What creation am I enjoying. And as I bit and tatse. I realized there's nothing to compare to this one. And believe me I've tatsed a few. But not like this one. Taste. Breakfast review. And it didn't go well. Item 1 was the spinach feta omelette. Instead of having the omelette made and spinach and feta stuffed.as the egg was folded over it, they were mixed into the egg and made on the flat top. Wrong. You can't whip the eggs this way, so instead of the perfect fluffy omelette ( like Sophia's for eg), it comes out flat and dry. Item 2. Sunny side with hash. Running egg yolks, yum. Runny egg whites, horrid. The CB hash had tiny cubes of potato. Dead giveaway of factory prepped hash. Any restaurant making their own will have shredded delightfully misshapen potato bits, not cubic bits. I hate cubic bits. My most recent experience was with their gyro wrap. When it was placed in front of me my eyes bulged and I questioned how I could possible eat that much food. Well, it's pretty easy to accomplish when it tastes that great! Perfect ratio of all the ingredients which were not stingy at all. The pita was soft yet perfectly grilled. After a long day of working and it being so hot outside, a chicken souvlaki salad sounded wonderful. Having not been to Alton's since the Covid-19 outbreak, it felt like a perfect opportunity for me and my wife to grab some dinner here. We arrived around 6:00PM on a Friday night. There were some people waiting outside and upon entering, we were able to sit in their waiting area after checking in. One thing nice about Alton's is that they have a decent-sized waiting area with seating and a half wall that you could stand and wait. They also have a separate counter/register for take-out orders which keeps the customer flow moving. We were seated after a very short wait. I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki Dinner and my wife selected the Fish Fry. Our server was fantastic! Not only did she continually bring us refills of drinks unprompted, but it is the other little things that separate an excellent server from the others. For example, she brought my dill dip with the bread service before my meal. That allowed me to dip my rye dread into Alton's amazing dill dip (i would kill to get that recipe!). Little things make the dining experience so much more enjoyable. I was seated in a part of the restaurant facing the counter and I was able to watch the staff. You can tell these servers have been doing it for a while and worked really well together. Bravo to Alton's for putting together such a good team. My Chicken Souvlaki was perfect. I was hungry by the time we received the food that I had forgotten to take a picture...lol! I do not care for olives and only enjoy a little feta on my salad. They got it right and the salad was cold, which is a big deal to me. The chicken was perfectly cooked and well seasoned. Their dill dip is perfect and really enhanced this dish. I ordered Greek Potatoes as a side and they were great. In my experiences, a lot of other Greek restaurants overcook their potatoes of let them over-marinate. These were truly great. My wife did not like her fish fry and barely ate it. I did not have it, so I cannot comment on it other then to say that even the waitress noticed my wife barely touched it but did not offer any recourse. That is my only ding on Alton's through the whole dining experience. We also purchased some Rice Pudding to take home for dessert later and it was also terrific. I prefer raisins in my pudding, but that is preference more so than a criticism. For anyone concerned about Covid-19, the staff all wore masks the entire time but were not enforcing customers at all, even entering or exiting the restaurant.
