In my opinion, it's one of the best places to buy bread, sausage, herbal tea and fruit juice. It's also fun to root around and discover foods that you might not be accustomed to. For example, the Polski Sklep on Talbot Street offers a great variety of biscuits and cakes. The sweets are very sugary and go nice with a cup of Barry's tea. Variety is the spice of life!

I got myself some Luchito honey and salsa with rare smoked Mexican chillies. My Lord. It's good. The honey also has chillies in it. It's ridiculous, I've gone through half a jar in two days. They also do small cooking classes in here which I've yet to try, but they could be anything from salsas to tomales to tortillas etc. If you're in the neighbourhood, make sure to call in. Lilly is only bleedin lovely to chat with, and if you're having a dinner party and want to be a bit smug about it, she'll sort you out with some serious ingredients and instructions for them too.

She'll answer any of your questions about the sweet eats she has on her shelves. Now, my compadres, if you've got your geography down, we're -not- a stone's throw from Mexico so the importing prices will reflect that. I was told there are plenty around, but this is the one I went to closest to the Temple Bar area. They had any and everything you'd imagine from snacks and seasonings to meals and plenty of cookware. Instead of wasting your money on a cheap takeaway, find the recipe of your favourite dish online (i.e. black bean rice) and go to the Emporium to get the ingredients. You can later spend the money that you saved on beer. Even if you're completely useless in the kitchen, you can still shop here. They have a new deli counter where I spotted a tasty roasted duck and on the other side of the shop, there's a fridge full of fizzy Korean drinks. Part of the fun is guessing what items are. I'm embarrassed to say but I had to google "bayanihan" to figure out the origin of this word. It's comes from the Filipino term "bayan" which means community. The term "bayanihan" refers to communal unity. I guess this shop contributes to the growth of the Filipino community in Ireland. In any case, this shop has some interesting produce, canned goods and frozen meats. I found a pig's head in a vacuum sealed pack in the freezer, sweeten canned beans in syrup and dried sardines. The ramen noodles, tropical fruit juices and leafy greens looked good.
