Last week one of the salesman for this company knocked on my front door to offer services. At first, I have to say I wasn't too excited because we get a lot of door to door people selling in our area, but he was super nice. I let him know that right now wasn't a good time and he offered to come back later and left me with his name and number. I thought more about it after he left and called him back cause we have had some trouble with bees lately in the yard. A few hours later he returned and we signed up for a Wasp/Bee service. I scheduled the appointment for a few days later and they tracked down the hives. Turns out there was a large bee hive on the inside of our fence in the backyard and another inside the basketball hoop connection thing. I'm happy to say that it's been over a week now and no bees in the yard and my kids are not scared anymore. We are probably going to have them back in the fall to start spraying for spiders as well. read more

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE I signed up in June for Alteras service and signed a one year contract BAD IDEA! After one spray around my house ( zero results) and then them saying they would have to come out a second time which they rescheduled on me many times. I paid my $69 and canceled my service. Just got a call today that I am in collections now. I realize I signed a contract but they failed to comply with returning to my home. And if I did get some "special" I would be willing to pay the difference but not $202 that I now have a collection for. William signed us up and was really direct and transparent about the service so I signed up and later that same day Landon cam by to do the service and was prompt, polite and did exactly what they said they would do. Highly recommend this service if you have a spider, ant etc. issue. Everything is pet and environmentally friendly also which is awesome. read more

Everything about my experience with Alterra has been super positive. From the door-to-door approach by Rene, to my technicians Sean and Jose, they were all super professional and never pressured me into anything. I had my service completed this morning, and they were right on time.... even took their shoes off before coming in the house. Time will tell if I am pest free... but so far so good. read more

I've been an Alterra customer for the last several years and have been very happy. When we first purchased our home we would occasionally see black widows in our basement, but since getting Alterra we haven't seen a black widow (which is important since we have kids). There have been occasions during the summer where my wife has called them out to do a service in between the quarterly treatments and they did that extra service for free. " Update" This will be the biggest waste of money you can spend. They spray water on your lawn for 100 bucks quarterly. I've never felt so ripped off! Even after having them come back to spray multiple times they can't get rid of spiders or snails. In fact this year was prob our worst year for bugs. I'm pretty sure they just feed them instead of killing them. I promise you that your money will be better spent anywhere but here!!! I also never received credits for my initial review. I felt the sales reps were friendly and not overly pushy. I did think it was interesting that they acted like they were doing me a huge favor by "throwing in the snail treatment" when I asked if it was included. Turns out it is included for everyone. I cannot comment on the actual effectiveness of the service because I just received my first treatment. I will surely follow up with an additional review after the second service is complete. It better work because it is not cheap. It also rained the day of my first treatment so hopefully that won't be a problem. It also didn't look like much was done inside. I've been using Alterra for over a year. Here are the pro's and con's: Pro: 1- You can call them pretty much whenever you want to come and reservice. I've even called them to come and remove a wasp nest. They are great that way. 2- They don't get too finicky. I live on a farm and if I need my garden shed sprayed that service, they are more than happy to accommodate. 3 - The service men are always friendly and easy to work with. We get a lot of scary spiders on our farm!! Benteen was our last servicer and me and my husband have never seen someone who goes above and beyond like he did to ensure everything was sprayed thoroughly. That type of service alone is keeping us with the company. Con: 1 - It takes awhile for the spray to settle in. Don't expect immediate results for your first 6 months with the company. It really took a solid year before I failed to see a spider in our house. The last 6 months have been awesome. 2 - We still get oodles of spiders outside. Now, I'm sure this is partly our fault and not theirs. We have a huge alfalfa field across the street, woodpiles, a big garden, etc. Lots of places for spiders to hang out. Still...it would be nice to open my front door and not see a big spider hanging out on the doorstep. After Benteen sprayed though that might change! I sure hope so. :) Overall, I say use them if you need a continual servicer. You won't find better! read more

Do business with this company at your own risk. They are exactly as described in the reviews. Pushy, poor quality, and unethical IMO. Signed up for 1 year, wanted to cancel after 1 service but was told we could not. After we did the time and dropped $400, our year was up they still came and sprayed. Would not refund money on the service we didn't order. In addition, I called the number to cancel, just like I did after the first service, and the representative said she couldn't cancel the account and I neeeded to speak with a manager. What is this 1970? Are you kidding me. Needless to say I would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

I would not recommend working with this company. They try to push up the services so they can get additional sprays in. That way they can start charging you $99 a spray. They completed our service two months earlier than expected. When they came out to spray again they told me that this one would cost. They pushed our service up 3 weeks on the first service and 3 weeks on the last service. What a rip off. Would not use Alterra again! read more

Every year in the spring we get ants like CRAZY! Last year I had another company spray and within weeks the ants were back and at it again. This year we called Alterra and had them come out early and haven't had a problem with ant so far this year. The technician was very friendly and asked a lot of questions about our ant problems so he could spray in the right areas. He found several places to spray that were missed last year. We signed up for a years contract and never saw them. Even when we were home they would spray outside only and leave the bill on the door. We had to call them every couple of weeks because our spiders just kept coming. One neighbor came to tell us that Alterra came and sprayed one strip in front of our door and then left the bill and took off. ONE tiny spray for $90. When the contract was over I called a highly recommended company to come look at some weird webs that were covering our back yard where my two young daughters play. A second opinion confirmed that we had a severe hobo spider outbreak! This while Alterra was supposedly taking care of us. Alterra put my daughter's lives at risk because of what I can only guess is laziness or just general lack of caring. Be warned. read more

It's been a completely terrible experience with this company from the beginning. Was advised by the sales person that if I didn't like it after the initial visit I could cancel. Failed to advise of cancellation fee so I asked when I could cancel and was told after 4 treatments. I have yet to ever see a technician however they say they are coming out. I'm supposedly set up to get emails of when they are scheduled to come but only ever received one. I have no fewer bugs than when I was spraying myself. I received a call today that I hadn't paid for the last service (never saw a bill nor was I aware they had even been to my house) I gave them my debit card to pay the bill and said that this would have been my 4th treatment and want to cancel. I was told that I can't cancel yet. She said that I can't cancel until the 4th treatment after the initial treatment. Lied to yet again. After the next treatment I will definitely be canceling. I have a neighbor that had a similar experience and we have both shared our experience with several of our neighbors. Will never do business with this company again. read more

Signed a contract with this company because I had nephew who had worked for them. 3/4 of the way through my contract I called, and told them to never come back. I was pretty sure what they were spraying was attracting spiders. Especially after getting so many funnel spiders in my shrubs. When I found a wolf spider bigger than a silver dollar crawling on my mantle I was done. Called the company I had used for years,and magically the spider problem was gone. read more

DO NOT RECOMMEND! Sign up at your own risk! Got mediocre results with the treatments, slight decrease in ants, no noticeable difference in spiders. Most treatments left a powdery residue around the doors to my house, which I did not like. Fulfilled my contract obligation and called in August to cancel service. Now it's October and they just sent me a notice for my next service, so I called and said I had cancelled in August. Then I thought I should double check my credit card and yep, looks like they billed me in August too, but I'm pretty sure they never came out (they say they did). Asked for my money back but they won't give a refund because whichever incompetent receptionist I spoke with didn't keep a record of the call or cancellation. This time I made sure I sent cancellation in writing. read more

I work from home, so I see that Alterra really does come as scheduled each quarter and don't skip out on every bit of preventative pest control that I am paying for. My last service by Kamilla was great--she was very friendly and made sure to ask me about any wasp nests I may have seen that she might miss, and offered to spray inside if there were any problems (never had a problem inside the house due to their excellent preventative work outside). read more

We've used Alterra for a few years now, but I just realized after my last service that I had never left a review. From the way it sounds on some other reviews of them, people didn't understand how the service worked. We had them the first year (there's a contract for the first year-this was not a surprise), and we've continued to use them because they did their job- we had gnarly spiders where we are near the east bench in Provo, but they've been basically gone, even in the basement. They've also improved a nasty wasp situation around (and in) our wooden patio covering. Their technicians are always friendly and helpful, and the office staff is polite and happy when we call for an occasional re-service. They've done exactly what we've needed them to do, and they've done it with a smile. read more

We had really bad spider and ant problems in our basement. I wasn't able to be at home when the technician came by so my wife handled it. Mat, our technician, was super friendly though. Apparently he had a big goatee that my little boy loved and when I came home my son couldn't stop talking about it! He called it the "goat". Mat was friendly to my wife and boy and took time to explain everything in detail to her. The ant and spider problems have gone away. We're extremely satisfied! read more

The technician Lane Q was very pleasant & professional. He showed up around the time that they said they would. The company even emails you a day before to remind you. I like that they will make appointments after 6pm because most of us have work all day. The other good thing is in-between scheduled sprays if you have problems they will come out again free. I would give it a 5 Star if their price wasn't higher then most & that they don't do flying insects(flys, bees, moskitos). read more

I just had my first initial service with Alterra Pest Control and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised!! Kevin was super efficient and took his time to make sure he got full coverage on the perimeter and the inside of my house. I told him I had concerns with a mouse and he had me show him exactly where & he set about 4 different traps around the area. He explained in detail about the contract I was signing (that's a first!!), and he was clean and respectful. He also didn't DESTROY my window cleaning job when he sprayed the outside in the eaves....all the other pest control companies I have used would always get it all over my newly cleaned windows!! I called Alterra because I have organic gardens and honey bees that frequent them. We had Moxie and they would constantly show up without the non toxic products I requested. Alterra has non toxic always. The service man, Greg, from Alterra is very knowledgeable and always tells me what he is going to do, does it, then reports back to me what he found.
