I had an Epson printer that needed its inkpad replaced/reset and I've tried/failed with a local HP specialist before. So when I found CMI as an authorized Epson shop as another shop (just a bit closer in terms of an audio repair I needed to run to Arlington Heights from Rogers Park), I gave them a call for an estimate. They quoted a rate that matched the competition of $89 (that was just a little farther) and offered to do the job while I waited. Since I was going to be back in the area to pickup my audio repair, I left it with them. On pickup day, I was running behind and I called them at 4:40 p.m. before closing to see whether I could still stop by. They said they'd still be open and was glad for not needing to make a separate return trip. (Will update review after I get my printer up and running again). Glad that there two great Epson repair shops in town, even if they are a haul from home.

This place and the owner, George, had excellent reviews. I called and he recognized the message, said he had the part, and said he could fix it and have me on my way in 30 minutes. Cost was $89 on a credit card. Discount for cash. Service was great. Printer producing great color photos again as well as beautiful text. I recommend George and this place highly. They are on Cortland now in Addison. Only the Epson website has the correct address. Their own website and Google and yelp all show the Fullerton address which is incorrect. Have George confirm the address when you call him to make an appointment.

They have 3 different printer models on demonstration in the store, the well known Makerbot Replicator, the Up Mini, and a very high end expensive unit (EOS Formiga P110) that prints high resolution art-quality pieces. They sell various 3d pieces printed from the machines ... the nylon printed art they have is really unique and cool. They also have computer terminals where you can design a pendant and they will then print that out. If you have a part or piece you want replicated, you can bring it in and have that done. Ever wanted to stand on a platform, be spun in a circle and scanned by a sensor that creates a 3d digital model of yourself, then prints out a bust of your head? For $24 (and up for bigger sizes), you can do that here. Want to take a printer home? The Up Mini 3D Printer for $999. For the price it's a great model / value. And it's in stock with no waiting list. They sold 3d printers before Staples, and theirs is less expensive! The guys that work there are enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the topic... it's a store but also a low pressure introduction to the concept. This store is an original--you won't find it anywhere else (yet). It's awesome. Take a friend, take a tourist, take mom. (psst, they have a coupon for free 2 hour parking in their parking lot on their web site)

That's impressive, folks. Print X-Press got back to me with a quote within a few hours, but beyond that communication among the office members was fairly disjointed. Normally it wouldn't be a huge deal when our print job would be ready (by the hour), but when things are rushed, a few hours makes a big difference.
