Unfortunately, I did not have the 5 star experience that other brides have experienced. I was referred to Toni by Amanda's Hyde Park Bridal and a handful of my friends, so I felt that I was in great hands. Our initial appointment went great. We agreed upon alterations and I thought I was in good hands. Unfortunately, when I returned I knew something was wrong. I explained to Toni that I felt like my dress was altered incorrectly and her response was "perhaps, I will talk to the girl who did it." Never once an apology during any of my 4 appointments with her and asked if I would still pay for altering the hem and the bustle. Actually made me feel like I was the crazy one since I had to bring up the incorrect alterations. I am sure Toni does great work based on the reviews, but I would have never gone here knowing that someone else would be altering my dress. Hopefully no bride has the same as experience here that I did because what was supposed to be an exciting time for me was nothing but a stress filled, anxiety ridden handful of appointments and a dress I'm left with that I still don't feel 100% confident with. read more

I would not consider my daughters experience with Toni and her team to be positive. My daughters bridal gown had already been ordered Hollow to Hem so no hemming was necessary but it did need to be taken in a little and little details such as bra cups were added. It took a total of 6 trips to Toni's to finally get the dress right. Several of those trips were due to the fact of a miscommunication between Toni and her seamstress , the dress was actually taken in instead of being let out not once but twice. The dress was to be perfect, pressed and ready for pickup 2 days prior to wedding only to find out it had again been taken in and not let out (could not even get it close to zipping). We had to return to her shop 3 times on that day. My daughter was extremely upset and no apology, consoling, reassurance was given. Upon the last pick up she was hit with charges added that had NEVER been disclosed or discussed. After an extremely stressful and frustrating conversation , Toni reluctantly agreed to refund some of the charges. Could not recommend due to lack of professionalism. read more

I can't say enough about my experience with Toni! She is so sweet and caring. I went to the shop a couple times with all of my accessories and she took a careful look and helped me decide on a few different things. Every time I came in I felt very welcome and she did an incredible job in a very timely manner. The rest of her staff is very friendly and helpful. I wanted a last minute embroidery for parent gifts, and she had no problem doing it. I will definitely be back for future adjustments. I am relatively new to the Cincinnati area and needed somewhere to alter my maid of honor dress for my sister's wedding. I searched yelp and found this place to be near my home with decent reviews. I went in there, tried on my dress and was instantly made to feel like alterations for my dress would be out of this world expensive. After placing very large safety pins all over my dress, the woman told me I was all set and that she would put an estimate together while I got dressed. I was quoted $450 to alter my maid of honor dress!! That was almost as much as the dress cost me. I told the woman that was crazy and that I could not justify paying that much. Her response was "I agree, can you find another dress?" I did not feel as if they really wanted to help me. I still didn't walk out of this place without paying something. When I told the woman I wouldn't pay that much for alterations, she said; "Then I need to remove all of the pins." I didn't want her to remove the pins from my beaded dress and cause unraveling of the beads so she said I would need to pay $25. This place is very overpriced for poor service. My sister didn't even pay that much to alter her sample size bridal gown down to her small frame. Thank God for making new friends in the area who referred me to a great alterations man who charged me $110 and did the work with a smile. read more

I can only speak of the customer service I received. I have heard nothing but good things about the alterations. Unfortunately I heard up front that the customer service was sub par, to say the least. I decided to schedule my wedding dress alterations any way though since this shop was recommended by the store from which I bought my gown. I scheduled my appointment in May. At that time I spoke with someone that told me they were new to the job. I initially asked for a Wednesday afternoon or evening since that worked best with my work schedule. After being put on hold multiple times, I was asked if a Thursday at the end of July would work at 5pm. I said that would be fine since I knew we had to get the dress in before vacations in order to have enough time. The week of the scheduled appointment I called to confirm. I called the night before my appointment and left a message. I was called back the next day and told there was a "miscommunication " and my appointment was the night before. I was also immediately informed that Toni does not reschedule once you miss an appointment and they do not give reminders. They then followed this statement with, 'she is willing to give you one last chance but only at 7am the next day'... I fully understand that time is money, but there was NO accountability on their part. I felt as though I was being punished by someone I had never met. I think they have lost sight of the beauty behind this day and only look for how they can benefit. These things should be fun and exciting. I don't want to dread going to try on my dress because the owner is upset with me over her own employees mistake. I just feel like a little piece of humble pie may be good for this business. I was excited (like any other bride) and looking forward to trying on my dress again and making it perfect. I can not recommend this business based on customer service alone. I have also read the responses on here from the owner which show little empathy and poor taste in my opinion. read more

I had a decent experience here. My first and 2nd fitting went well and were quick. But my final fitting a couple days before my wedding was a disaster. She didn't seem to care that stains somehow ended up on my dress after they pressed it and offered a "discount". She also was not very friendly about it either as I was trying not to freak out. I took it to the dry cleaners to try to get it cleaned and it was too late. They also said that it looks like the stains were set in so it happened before they pressed it and will be nearly impossible to get off. Not happy about that and the way they handled it. read more

Friendly staff and nice facility. Mixed feeling about my actual alterations on my beaded bridesmaid dress. My alterations took 3 weeks and 3 try-ons until properly fitted. Thread used to take my dress in didn't even match the fabric and I've been trimming loose thread on the inside of the dress. Not a cleanly finished product. Also, I felt that the prices for the services were not reflective of the level of difficulty or the time spent on the alteration. $48 to hem a skirt versus $15 to hem a pair of pants?? I will shop around next time I need something done. read more

Alterations by Toni altered my wedding dress for my January 4 wedding. I initially emailed Toni to see if she could alter my dress in a short amount of time because I had waited too long to order the dress and would have a short turn-around between receiving it and the actual day of the event. Toni was very prompt in getting back to me and assured me that she would be able to accommodate my request. Upon receiving my dress, I was able to make an appointment to take it in within a few days. It was nice to be able to make an appointment and not to have to wait to be served. Toni was very helpful and professional. She listened to my requests and I did not feel uncomfortable or judged in any way. When my dress was complete, a few days later, I had another appointment to try it on. Toni was willing to open her shop early so that I could come in before work, which was very nice! Everything was perfect and fit exactly the way that I wanted it to . I am MOH in a wedding for which the bride was referred to this shop. The bride decided not to have her dress altered here, which is 4 minutes from my home, so I picked it up for her while she was at work. After all this, she was charged $100 for the pickup fee since she decided not to have the work done by the shop. My friend left a review with her unhappiness, you can find it below. The shop owner emailed my friend and accused her of falsifying the review! I'm appalled at the behavior of a business. As a customer, you should always be able to be in conversation with business owners about opportunities to improve and in fact the challenges should be seen as opportunities to grow NOT dismissed entirely. The only way that my friend is going to be seeing her $100 hidden fee back is if she were to remove the honest review. I wish I had enough room to share the email from the business owner. Utterly distasteful, as she called me "rude" having never met me nor being there to meet me when I picked up the dress. read more

I had a very intricate wedding dress with lots of beading and lots of layers on the skirt/train. The bridal store I got it from gave me only three options that they would trust to get this kind of dress altered, and alterations by Toni was on the pricier side of the three options, but I was impressed with how professional they were over the phone and the detailed explanation Toni gave breaking down the cost ahead of time, after I emailed her photos of the dress, and the responsiveness and how quickly I was able to get in. I had a great experience. Because of all the layers in the skirt and train, it was hard to get the length just right to avoid me tripping over it as I walked around in it, and Toni was more than willing to continue to alter it to make the fit just right, at no extra cost. She was very professional and responsive and upfront about cost, but flexible and was able to get the dress completed within plenty of time for my wedding, and the dress fit beautifully! read more

I wanted a christening gown made from two old, and not so clean, wedding dresses. After I found a pattern, Toni and Karen made the gown and a jacket that turned out beautifully. I had asked for a handkerchief also and they did a remarkable job. Now my grandchildren will be wearing some of my dress and their great grandmother's dress on their christening day. TON IS A LIFE SAVER. I am the maid of honor for my sister's wedding. We had ordered our dresses back in March and didnt get them until late August. This gave me about a month to get alterations if needed. I tried my dress on and it didnt fit! Come to find out I was measured incorrectly when I ordered my dress. I WAS FREAKING OUT AT THIS POINT. I was so upset about the dress and my sister kept telling me go to Toni, she will help you. I stopped in had the dress on for less than a minute and Toni knew exactly what to do. Came back 5 days later and the dress is perfect! I would highly recommend Toni to anyone. Not only is an amazing seamstress but she is extremely nice and welcoming. I found Toni by searching for the highest rated bridal gown alteration seamstress in Cincinnati and she definitely lived up to that reputation! Given my short 5'2' stature, my dress needed shortened quite a bit as well as taken in too in a few places. Toni was able to create a perfect fit for me in every way and also added a beautiful bustle that was easy to manage. My dress looked absolutely gorgeous for my destination Halloween New Orleans wedding and I received literally hundreds of compliments on my dress all night as my husband and I had a traditional second line brass band parade through the French Quarter! She was very polite, professional, easy to work with, and made me feel very comfortable and confident in her work. IF YOU LOVE YOUR CLOTHES, GO ELSEWHERE. I wish I had read a couple of these reviews before going to Alterations by Toni. My experience was terrible and may involve my attorney at this point. I just moved to Cincinnati after living abroad for several years and read good reviews about this place. I brought in 11 items for altering and returned home with problems on 6 of the 11 items. The worst was that all 4 jeans that I brought in were shortened more than an inch shorter than I asked for. And most women know how challenging it is to find jeans that you love. When I told the team that I was so upset I didn't sleep the night before, the receptionist replied "It's not as if you lost your house." RUDE! Additional problems: Toni's team did not use double thick thread on the jean hems as I requested. A seam on my dress was coming undone after trying on the dress twice. And there was a half inch discrepancy on the sleeves of one of my shirts. The team tried to regain length on my jeans using sewing tape; however, they are still shy of the length that I wear them. The only reason I agreed to accept them was that Toni promised me a complete refund on my entire order. I had to return to the shop 4 additional times for all the corrections, and in the end Toni did not give me the full refund. She asked her receptionist to refund only the messed up items. This in no way compensates for my shorter than expected jeans and for all the trips I had to make to her shop. Very unprofessional. I would definitely not recommend the shop. read more

I thought Toni did my wedding dress alterations but learned it was her staff which would have been fine if my dress looked awesome. My dress took 7 times of me coming in before it was ready. Granted, a couple of times were on me changing my mind. My dress isn't perfect but I'm not sure it's their fault. Frustrated nonetheless for the price I paid. Toni's staff is not friendly. Another family member witnessed this and as did I when I'd hear them interact with other customers while I was there. I never got a congratulations or a have a great time when I picked it up. It's a little detail I know but they are in customer service after all. Overall my dress is better and fits now, staff unpleasant, and prices are high. read more

I have just had a horrible experience at this shop. And I must say that this was this first time I've ever done anything of this sort. It began a few weeks ago when I came in to have a mother-of-the-groom dress altered. I was told that I would need to have my shoes before they would begin determining alterations. That didn't make sense to me as the dress was cocktail length, but spent the next 2 weeks shoe-shopping. I returned to the shop with shoes and the appropriate undergarments. When I came out of the changing station, I was asked what I wanted done to the dress. I thought that was odd as I was coming to these folks for their expertise in altering and fitting clothing: I thought she would be making suggestions about what was needed to make the dress fit me well. After collaborating, it was determined all that needed to be altered (the woman told me that it would be a complicated effort as the bodice would have to be separated from the collar to make adjustments, the skirt of the dress would have to be shorted from the waist, and the zipper would have to be taken out and then put back in). I was given a price of $187 and they wanted the money "up-front." This dress had already cost me, and I have never spent this amount of money on a dress before--let alone having it altered--but figured it would all be worth it. I was given a date of 16 days later, allowing just a couple of days in the event further alterations would be needed. Went in to pick up the dress today. The woman with whom I had the initial session was not there. The owner was there but disappeared before I came out of the dressing room. I stood around for a bit before anyone attended to me. The bodice of the dress was still way too loose. The neck/collar piece had totally changed and wasn't even laying the way it had originally; further, one side of it was wider that the other side and it was lower on the neck than it had been (these were not included in the adjustments that had been discussed). The back of the dress was loose. One side of the bodice was lower than the other. The young woman working with me pinned and marked, and then told me that she would let the woman altering the dress about the modifications Monday. I let her know that I would be leaving town Wednesday. She remained nonplussed. No sign of the owner. I noticed a feeling of dread as I approached my car, realizing I had little trust that this expensive dress would actually be altered to fit me as it should. I phoned the shop and after receiving an answering message, left word that I wanted the owner to return my call. When she did, I explained to her my anxiousness and worry about the dress and what had already gone wrong. She offered no apologies and did not express any concern. She stated that all would be fine and that the original alterer would make sure I was happy with the dress. I did not feel confident that anyone was committed to addressing my worries or needs, and decided to pick up the dress and take it elsewhere. While I understand that others hold this shop in highest regard, my experienced was completely different and I will not recommend this shop to anyone. In fact, I am still shaking. Also, I do not believe that all the complicated aspects of altering this dress were actually done; e.g., I believe that the lace overlay of the skirt of the dress remained the same and that the lining underneath was hemmed to "shorten"the length and I do not think the zipper was taken out and then put back in. I am hoping that the shop will refund my money. read more

I would never return here. I took my wedding dress here for minor alterations, and the alteration itself was what I asked for. However, I was treated very poorly. I drove over an hour to have my alterations done here, and I ended up having to make three trips instead of two. I went to pick up my dress the second time, when I was scheduled to, and it was not finished. I was told at that time it was for a second fitting- but the first time I was told I was to pick it up on that date. Between my second and third trip, I was comparing pictures from my two fittings, and the color of the dress looked wrong to me. I contacted Toni and she was extremely rude with me. I told her I wasn't sure if the dress was the same or not, but to me it looked different. I was very professional and calm about it, although I was very anxious- as any bride would be. She continued to tell me I was wrong and she was very defensive. I would have been okay had she said "I think it is the same dress, but we'll take a look at it together when you get here to pick it up." But she did nothing to try to assure me or make me feel better about the situation. A couple days later I get a phone call reminding me of my appointment to pick up my dress the next day. 30 minutes later I get a phone call saying "Please disregard that last message. I realize you have already picked up your dress." I had not already picked up my dress...... When I told her this she said "oh okay, see you tomorrow then!" I asked her to check to make sure my dress was actually there. I said I would hold, but she insisted on calling back later. She did call back, and my dress was in fact there. I went the next day to pick up my dress and she asked if I would like to look at it before I left with it... I took one quick look at it and she zipped up the bag.... I asked if I could try it on and she said "I guess but I have an appointment in 10 minutes." Overall just a very bad experience, poor customer service, and a bad attitude. I would highly recommend taking your dress somewhere else. This experience added a lot of unnecessary stress to an already very stressful event. Working in the wedding industry, I would assume this is something a business owner would be conscious of. read more

After another local vendor didn't alter my dress properly according to my requests (and I felt like she didn't really listen to me when I voiced my concerns), I was left with a wedding dress that didn't fit 3 weeks before the wedding. I panicked, thinking I wouldn't be able to find someone to fix it with so little time to spare. I contacted Alterations by Toni, and Toni was able to fit me in within a few days for an appointment. During my initial appointment, I felt like Toni really listened to me about the problems I still saw with the dress. She came up with various solutions and talked with me about different ideas she had for alterations. She was able to alter the dress within about a week (although I'm sure this isn't the recommended turnaround time!), and it fit like a dream on my wedding day! I'll definitely be taking everything else I need to have altered to Alterations by Toni. read more
