My usual alterations expert is a nice guy named Yi, and when I pulled up to his shop last Wednesday, I felt the door was locked and through the window saw everything had been cleared out. A 0932 Google search for, "alterations near me" led to a phone call to Alterations by Leanne. The titular seamstress picked up after the first ring and informed me she was open at that hour, giving me hope my dreams of hemmed sweats could be actualized that a.m. Her shop (doubling as her house), a two minute drive from Yi's old place on Martin Way, was tucked picturesquely between beautiful old growth trees, with clear signage that I had arrived at the correct place. Leanne greeted me at the door promptly, saw me to the changing room, and did the safety-pin-on-the-pant-leg thing. "If you have 7-8 minutes, I can have your pants finished and you on your way." Sweet! She once-overed the sweats and told me her intention for the style of hem she was thinking about using. I elected to not learn eight new words/concepts specific to clothing alteration circles and wisely deferred to her expertise. She ribbed me congenially about having cut the pant legs myself. "Just let me chop them off next time, ok, Jon? It will make the hemming much easier." Chagrinned, I replied, "Ok, Leanne." She charged me a fair (cash/check only) price for the job - I think about $16, and had me on my way in less than 20 minutes start to finish. She was listening to Christian radio as she worked and I waited. I'm into that kind of stuff, so I appreciated it. While leaving I thanked her and offered the standard, "Thank you and God bless." "God bless you, too. Please let me know if I can ever help again." I mentioned something like, "Please pray for me." Without pause she prayed for me specifically, aloud, for about 90 seconds straight, she asked what I was doing for Easter, and invited me to her Church. What a heart on this woman. Leanne knows how to hold space for people and make them feel welcome. Worth mentioning - she can provide a great hem in record time at a competitive price. I brought in a pair of pants and a casual dress to hem and a jumpsuit to bring in the shoulders and she did a perfect job on all three. Leanne is also so friendly, kind, and organized.
