I got suit altered. A lot of $. When i went to pick it up she was busy so i did not try the suit on to see how it fits. Next day i left for a wedding in Europe. I was gone for almost 2 months. When i put the suit pants on, the pant was going into my butt. Wore the suit that way and just put it away for the rest of my stay in Europe. When i came back i went back so she can get it right. She did get it better. Today i bought a sport coat and a pair of slacks and made an appointment to have them altered. First appointment cancelled . Made another appointment which was also cancelled. Having read reviews here... wow! In some cases it sounds like perhaps she needs these policies clear and expressed on her website so as not to take you by surprise, but it is what it is and you're in Portland, not NYC or LA. If you're not chill, go elsewhere. Some basics: You pay for the service first. Don't like it? Go elsewhere. Turn around time is based on demand and the type of work needed. My opinion? Never rush an artist if you want your piece done well. Do not just show up. She is appointment-only. Go on her website and take a slot. If you are unsure what to choose, do your best and then book it with notes (be detailed, so she can determine if she'll need more time than what you selected). Ok, onto my experience: Brought my coats in with the buttons I wanted added to them. Expressed my disappointment with the original designer's single snap closure and stated that I would like both an internal button and three external buttons on each coat. Her approach. Try on each coat. Determine where buttons will need to go, then pin those places. Discuss how, though they were both from the same maker and supposed to be of the same design, they're different in how they hang and in the collar. She then explained why one was weirdly stiffer than the other (felted wool). She discussed how the work would be done and said she couldn't give me a firm date for return because eyelets need hand-stitching. One coat also needed to be tact in the arms so the liner didn't move through the coat with my sleeves and come out the arm hole (really poor cleaning job by the designer shrunk and hardened the wool, leaving the liner loose and stretchy inside on one coat). Total? $50/jacket, which was enormously fair in my opinion, provided it was done well. At some point you just have to trust the person doing the work will do it well. If you're super picky, then take a sewing class or two. The full payment up front was a bit surprising to me, but hey!- if she got it right, these two beautiful coats I was unable to wear would be wearable again and wouldn't that be wonderful!? Paid in full up-front. A couple weeks later I was sent a scheduled appointment. I assumed this meant the jackets were done. I changed the date and time, since what was sent didn't work, then picked it up a couple days later. I tried them on, they looked FANTASTIC!!! They were better than I expected and, if I'm honest, her extensive knowledge of fabrics helped us both understand what needed to be done the the shrunk and hardened coat that was poorly cleaned by the designer. This knowledge led to the tacking in the arms and a coat I now wear almost daily, love, and get lots of compliments on! I cannot speak to all the services that she provides, her knowledge of the work, willingness to jump through hoops for overly demanding customers, but I'll say one thing for certain: I trusted her to cut holes in my jackets and make them wearable again and she did that and then some. I'd trust her again in a heartbeat and her prices are more than fair. I'm unsure what happened with the woman who complained about her daughter's wedding dress, or the person who couldn't process a credit card- sounds like these were unfortunate situations, but I would not suggest writing Alteration Central off because of those reviews. I was Referred here by my sis in law. Brought in 4 dresses to get hemmed and other alterations. I tried on each dress and Atina pinned me up and offered suggestions to make it fit better. It was a good first fitting session overall. The location is in a quiet neighborhood and easy to find. There's Parking right out front. Appointments are Recommended as she gets busy in the summer time. I'm glad I found a seamstress close to home and look forward to bringing her more business! Turn around is fairly quick. I purchased this dress for a red carpet event. It was a complicated dress with a long train. The owner was able to hem the dress and add a gorgeous loop onto the dress so I could wear the loop on my wrist to life the dress up while I was walking. I didn't give a lot of notice. She was able to fit me in and the results are below. I know there are good and bad reviews . I had a great experience. However she is not the cheapest in town. The cost of the alternation was twice the cost of the dress. It was worth it for me because not every seamstress could work with a complicated dress. I was required to pay upfront. Bad customer service. I called in advance to set a time to drop some clothing for repair. I drove 10 minutes. She said that it would cost $25 . I gave her my card. She tried to run my card but her square app was not working (nothing to do with my card). She said I needed to bring cash before 5 pm or she could not work in my pants. I asked her if I could pay when I pick them up. Her business is in a residential area, there are no ATMs at a walking distance. She said, no you have until 5 pm to bring me cash. I found it unreasonable since it was her square app that was not working. I left with my pants, what a waste of my time. read more

I was very happy I found this tiny little shop. They did a great job hemming my 2 pairs of jeans. Drop off was on a Saturday and I picked them up on Wednesday afternoon. There was even a holiday on Tuesday. One pair I needed to have hemmed with the original jean cuff and it came out perfect. The rates are lower than the 4 nearest places. I have brought in other items and received consistent good service. This is a world of extra long jeans to which I have half the length of leg required to rock those jeans. I needed to get my Dad's pants hemmed in a hurry for a memorial service. I dropped off the pair I needed hemmed along with 4 other pair on a Wednesday (hemlines already marked). I told Khanh that I only need one pair by Saturday, the 4 other pants I could pick up anytime, whether it be a week or two that would be no problem. Khanh messaged me on Thursday afternoon to let me know ALL 5 PAIR WERE DONE! I was able to pick them up Friday and deliver them to my Dad. He is very happy with the hems. Our ten year old daughter is in a wedding and we needed to have her dress altered. So we took it in. Oh my what a nightmare. After the lady stuck pins all over she said it would be $160. $60 more than the dress itself. Said Wow well that must be how much it costs. Ok lets do it. She demanded we pay 100% up front. I told her I would give her $100 and pay the balance when we picked it up. All is well and off we go. I got five minutes away and she called and said she wont do the dress because I wouldn't pay her up front. She said I needed to come back and pick up the dress and she would refund my money. Took my wedding dress here after having a nightmare experience at a tailor in downtown Portland. What a relief! It had a jeweled bodice with a lace overlay and was by no means an easy alteration. She did an excellent job and even finished early! Perfect---since I had to mail my dress to the East Coast. I recommend this place highly. Amazing work, reasonable price! My collection of vintage ties needed miscellaneous wear-and-tear repairs. Mostly, the keepers and stitching on the back were coming loose. This sounds simple enough but is actually a tricky project that requires fine skills, so as not to damage the ties. Ateena, the owner/seamstress, did an amazing job in restoring my ties to its original glory. Not only that, she also organized them in a neat storage box. While I have used this seamstress on numerous occasions, I will not go there again as she is unwilling to stand behind her work and make things right when necessary. I had a zipper replaced on some running tights. Unfortunately, the new zipper broke after two uses. When I took it back, she informed me she would "make me a deal" and only charge me half price to fix it--an additional $8. Good business people stand behind their work. Don't bother, I took some curtains in to be hemmed and out of 10 curtains none of them were the same length, several attempts to contact them to schedule a time to bring them in and never received a call back. Unfortunately one was sewn at an angle so couldn't use at all. Have asked for my money back so I can get them all redone, have asked for them to call me so I can pick up a check, gave them until the 20th, will keep Yelp posted. Have gone there numerous times and always have the best service and am able to pick up my alterations within a few days. I even had my wedding dress altered there at the best deal I found in town!
