Altared handled the lighting, sound, photobooth and DJ entertainment for our wedding on November 5th at Barr Mansion and it was a blast. Everything was perfect, exactly how we wanted it to be. They know their stuff and helped us conceive of the perfect look for our reception, which wound up including a beautiful layer of fairy lights hung from the ceiling of the venue. This required a scissorlift to come in and put up, which they also coordinated and made happen with no additional stress from our end. DJ Andrew worked with us to create the perfect vibe for the dance section of the reception that kept our dance floor full the entire evening. He was also spot on for the music cues during the processional, recessional and first dance at our ceremony and reception. All of the coordinators and administrators who worked with us to get everything set up correctly in the buildup to the wedding were very quick to respond to any of our questions via email within a few hours at most whenever we reached out. They were also proactive with reminders and questions of their own when deadlines approached or decisions needed to be made. We felt that they had our wedding logistics well in hand at all times. A great one stop shop for a big portion of wedding logistics. Well worth the cost for such a comprehensive service. Cannot recommend enough. Would use again if we get married again, though I don't think we'll be topping the last one thanks in large part to Altared! read more

We interviewed with one of Altared's DJs for our wedding, and were really impressed. He was friendly, and seemed to have the qualities we were looking for. Everything except professionalism. Before we had a chance to book him, he called saying he had been booked for that date through the website and "there was nothing he could do". Considering we were supposed to have right of first refusal, we were obviously upset. I hope the rest of the DJs are more professional; unfortunately, all I can go off of is my personal experience. read more

We were fortunate to have Tommy as our wedding reception DJ. Tommy was both talented and professional. From our first sit down interview, throughout our email correspondence, to the wedding itself, our expectations were exceeded. Tommy was concerned with two main things; customizing the music to reflect who we are and making sure the crowd was having a good time. He accomplished both of those objectives flawlessly. He worked in conjunction with our day-of wedding coordinator to keep everything on schedule and in control; this was invaluable. I also have great appreciation for Altared Weddings as a business. Ryan recommended Jeremy as our wedding DJ and I could not be happier with his performance. He went above and beyond for our wedding! He played all the songs we asked for and knew how to get young and old up on the dance floor. I broke his heart when I told him "no country" but he reluctantly listened and didn't sneak any country songs in. Haha he's a great guy, thanks Jeremy! He did an amazing job with the uplighting too. What a great experience! DJ Davey (AKA Richard Gear) was originally recommended to me by one of my long time friends, who is also married to a professional DJ. Unfortunately he was booked at the time so we were still on the hunt. Fortunately for me, (perhaps unfortunately for someone else), there was a cancellation and Ryan emailed me and let me know they were available. It worked out great for us as we were still looking. I had a lot of very questionable replies to my craigslist ad or the good DJ's were already booked. It was a crap shoot. I wanted a good DJ and someone who knows good music, but also can emcee the party announcements, set dances, entrances, toasts, etc. It requires a good balance of professionalism without being cheesy or too stiff and most importantly play good music and get a party going. Luckily Altared and David have done this many times before and it worked out great. The selling points for me were: 1. Professionalism and no fuss business model. The web portal was great and everything was very clear and straight forward. No red flags along the way. They answered all my questions along the way. 2. Real DJ's. Not your typical artificial wedding DJ. Music is their first love and that translates to the dance floor. Once the party started all of the ladies were dancing. He listened to our music choices beforehand and everyone had a blast. David was very friendly, we chatted about music and had no hiccups. We are very picky about music. No cheesy typical wedding music, pop music, corny stuff. But also enough variety and recognizable songs to have fun to for those who are not so picky so the balance was great. Thank you guys! Absolutely loved working with this company. Word of advice: just trust them. They know what they're doing. Halfway through our 1.5 year engagement, our assigned technician left and we got a new technician. This transition was extremely smooth, the new technician proved herself to be extremely knowledgable and trustworthy. They were extremely professional and created a world of lights that was beyond my imagination! Everything glowed in the most beautiful way. For budget reasons, we ordered some lights online. Altered was extremely understanding and gracious about this and even helped the planner hang these. Altered provided lights that were gorgeous and awe-inspiring, but were not in the way. Their lights were for beauty and functionality but there were no loose chords, poles in line of sight, nothing. I don't know how they pulled it off but I would strongly recommend them to EVERYONE. read more

We originally had Christian of Altared Weddings slotted to DJ our wedding but when he got an offer to DJ a huge gig in Europe (hope you rocked it Christian!), Ryan very professionally asked if it was ok for him to step in as our DJ. We said sure and Ryan KILLED IT! We had so much fun and all of our friends and family were raving about it afterwards. Ryan perfectly melded what we asked for with his own choices to keep the party going--and we had some pretty crazy requests! (being introduced to Back That Thang Up, for example). The last few songs specifically were truly euphoric, with all of our loved ones surrounding us and singing at the top of our lungs to Journey and Fun. Memories we will always cherish. I rate the company as a whole a 4, but our specific DJ (Eric) gets a 1. Our wedding was in June 2012 at One World Theatre. We met Christian from Altared Weddings at a One World Theatre open house, and were very impressed with his charismatic personality and the fact that Altared Weddings worked regularly with One World Theatre and were familiar with the venue, acoustics, etc. We knew that a DJ is important to helping the event go smoothly, getting guests engaged, keeping the energy level up, etc. Unfortunately, Christian was already booked for our wedding date. Based on a questionnaire we did, we were matched with DJ Eric. We met with Eric pretty early on to talk about what we envisioned and make sure we were on the same page. Two weeks prior to the wedding, we called and emailed Eric a few times trying to schedule our final planning meeting, and got no response. Concerned, we contacted the owner, Ryan, who was responsive and great to work with throughout the whole process. Ryan informed us that Eric was out of the country--that would have been nice for Eric to let us know he'd be out so close to the wedding because he should know people might try to contact them as the date gets closer. We met with Eric a few days before the wedding to discuss everything in detail. His basic attitude was, "Yeah, I got it." He didn't take any notes, and seemed very lackadaisical about the whole thing. The day of the wedding, most importantly, he messed up our first dance song. He started the song too soon, so we were rushing to make it to the middle of the dance floor on time and had to skip a couple of cool moves that we had spent a lot of time preparing. When it was time for my bouquet toss, the wedding planner instructed him to wait until I made it up to the balcony to start the song. I really needed to go to the bathroom, so I had to stop on the way (takes a minute in a wedding gown...). He started the song early. He also played the same song twice in a row, and then later played another song twice with just one song between it. How do you not notice that?! Also, we asked him not to deviate from our playlist and were very clear about that. I didn't want overly trashy club music being played in our reception, and he played some of those songs which were not on the list. We asked him to alternate pop music and then every 3rd song, tejano since we had a lot of older Hispanic guests. We asked him gauge how many people were dancing to pop music vs. tejano, and to adjust accordingly (play more of one or more of the other depending on the interest level--pretty common sense). He played only pop music, and no tejano, and hardly anyone was dancing to the pop music--pretty much just the kids were dancing most of the time. After he was playing crappy songs that weren't on our list, my husband finally asked him to play nothing but tejano the rest of the night. We paid around $1100 for these services because we really valued having a good quality DJ at our wedding, but we could have found someone for more like $600 that would have done the same or better. My best friend (also a recent bride) recommended Altared Weddings to me and I am so glad she did. We worked with Ryan for booking and Jason was our DJ. Both were great and easy to work with. I met Jason in person and he quickly picked up on the type of party my fiancé and I were wanting to throw. We collaboratively came up with an awesome playlist that mixed country, rap, and top 40's perfectly. Jason was great with last minute changes. The day before the wedding, my fiancé and I recut the song for the first dance and sent it to him. He accepted the change in stride. Moments before we were exiting the reception, we realized my car was not parked close by and we needed him to stall. He was able to stall without anyone noticing. In my opinion, Jason exhibited the defining characteristic of a good DJ: you noticed the great music but never noticed the DJ. Jason spoke when he needed to (introducing the wedding party, etc.) but not any more than that. I have been to weddings where the DJ monopolized the reception and it ruined the wedding. I was nervous that would happen but I shouldn't have been. Jason is a true professional and eager to please. I would recommend Altared Weddings and Jason with no reservations. read more

I went with Altared Weddings because I have always been obsessed with the musical aspect of my wedding the same way that other girls are obsessed with the flowers or their dress. They charge above the industry average but we cut corners elsewhere so that I could have one of the highest rated DJ's in this area because I wanted the music to be perfect. We elected to go with DJ Brad, who was one of the two DJ's available. He was not one that I had seen reviewed before (first red flag!) but I assumed it would be fine because Altared Wedding was so highly reviewed by others. Here's a list of why I would not recommend Altared Weddings: 1. Communication. From the get go, all communication with my DJ was initiated by me. With all of my other vendors, they were proactive in contacting me and getting a good feel for what I wanted. When I would email Brad with questions or concerns, he would essentially tell me " fill out the on line questionnaire and everything will be fine."I even got an email from the owner that told me I should be hearing from Brad around a week before my wedding to make sure we were on the same page. I never did and in the craziness that is the week before your wedding,I never called him Again, I assumed it was all going to be fine because I filled out the online questionnaire. 2.Repeated songs.Both the ceremony and cocktail hour ran a bit long, which does happen at weddings.I provided playlists for both but also told him the genre of music I wanted him to play from if things ran long.So imagine my surprise when I started hearing songs being repeated at my cocktail hour! I later found out from guests that songs were played over again at the ceremony, too. To some, this might not be a big deal but for the money we paid, he should have been able to come up with a song or two to keep from repeating. 3.The light show.I have laser hearts and stars on my butt in my first dance pics. Would have NEVER okayed the laser light show had Brad communicated with me. I contacted the owner about my disappointment after the wedding and I got a half-hearted apology as well as advice that I shouldn't let a few repeated songs ruin my wedding. While my wedding wasn't ruined by any stretch, I'm mildly irritated to be getting advice from a vendor I'm not pleased with on how I shouldn't be too upset over how bad their service was. read more

My husband and I have worked with Ryan on several business projects, and we absolutely love his videography work. But when our wedding day came, and the photographer (who was a member of the family) didn't show up, Ryan came through. He cleared his personal schedule to help us out, then he handled everything like a champ. He took pictures the whole day, traveled with us to multiple locations, and even seemed to be helping act as wedding planner during our reception so I could relax and enjoy the time with friends. Christian was our DJ for Altared Weddings. I submitted an online request, was contacted by owner Ryan, settled on a price and picked DJ Christian. Christian set up speakers for our outdoor wedding and played the ceremonial music. Then he set up speakers in the reception area for dancing. All the mikes worked well for the toasts and announcements. Christian played some of the songs we requested on the questionnaire and mixed in some songs he thought would also go well for the dinner. He did a great job keeping the party going. We had a diverse group of people: Pacific Coast vegetarians, South Texas hunters, Indians, etc. He switched between country music, electronic, Punjabi, top 40, etc., whatever he felt the crowd wanted to hear. We had people dancing all night even though we had a small wedding. Great job. read more

This review solely has to do with the owner of Altared Weddings, Ryan. I was searching for a wedding DJ and my planner recommended Altared Weddings. I contacted Ryan and he recommended one of his DJs and gave me his contact info. Unfortunately, the DJ's phone was broken and I was unable to speak with him. He said he was going to try and get a new phone and he would get in contact with me when that happened. While I was waiting for his call I decided to google him to find out which clubs in Austin he DJs at. The first thing that came up in my search for his name was mugshots.com and a photo of his mugshot from an assault arrest last year. I brought this to my planner's attention and apparently she mentioned it to the owner because a few hours later I get a call from Ryan saying that he does not want to work with me and I need to find another DJ company. He made up a million excuses why, acting like I was a bad client but I know it was solely because I stumbled upon that mugshot. A couple hours later the mugshot had been taken down. It still comes up when you google the DJ's name but when you click on the page it isn't there. Anyways, the call from Ryan was extremely unprofessional and he tried to put the blame on me when I had very little contact with the company before that point and never actually got to talk to the DJ. I would not work with someone who does business in this way. read more

We had Andrew of Altared Weddings DJ our wedding, and he did an AMAZING job. Our venue (Memory Lane) paired us with Andrew, and after we filled out a form with some information about our song tastes and choices, we put all our trust in Andrew. He was very communicative with us before the wedding, and as for the day itself...well, the day was perfect, and everyone had A BLAST dancing. He absolutely nailed our music tastes, just by simply reading the info we had to send leading up to the day. I was so happy! So many of our friends and family came up to my husband and I throughout the night to tell us how much they loved the music, and I think it was pretty obvious by all the dancing how much fun everyone had! Thank you so much, Andrew, for knowing exactly the type of music to play for our wedding; it truly was perfection. Ryan DJ'd a school event for us. I can't even begin to tell you how awesome it was. The number one comment I had from the kids and teachers was how awesome it was to have a DJ. He totally set the mood and made our school event feel more like a party! He was awesome! The process from start to finish with Altared Weddings was such a breeze! They are very professional and hardworking! Our initial contact was with Jasmin and she provided a lot of information on the front end for us so there was very little back and forth question/answers which was so helpful! Their is also a client portal where you can modify your questionnaire at any time. They have a lot of services to offer but we only elected the DJ services for the ceremony and reception. We chose Christian as our DJ and we couldn't be happier! We spoke over the phone twice and towards the end I was nervous about the music selection timing during the ceremony and Christian and I had a long conversation a few days prior and it was such a huge sigh of relief and was one less thing to worry about. Christian knew exactly what to do and he delivered! Christian fed off our guests and played such a great list of songs to keep everyone on the dance floor! Not only did he build a custom curtain light masterpiece he made my wedding day truly SHINE. From the mix of music in at the start of the reception that had my 80 year old grandparents on the dance floor doing the twist, to the classic 90's music our friends were signing every word to at the end of the night it was perfect! We used Ryan & Altared for our November 2010 wedding after researching numerous DJs. Music was very important, as our family and friends love to dance, but we wanted to avoid the "corniness" that we had seen at other weddings. Ryan has an energetic, fun personality, but as others have noted, he was all business when it comes to execution on the "day of" for your events, as well as the final product. Working long distance, we were able to create the song list (with multiple last minute requests), arrange for a slideshow, lighting, etc.; yet kept it all within our budget at a very reasonable cost. We actually only met him in person for the first time the week of the wedding! Then, we presented perhaps the greatest challenge he's ever had - the groom was hospitalized and missed the entire dinner and reception. Ryan had to quickly reengineer the song and our pre-scheduled plans, but he didn't miss a beat (no pun intended.) He had an excellent sense for the vibe in the crowd and never once played a song that jarred with the mood. I have used Altered Weddings separately for my son's and daughter's weddings. We had Sean Hunt as our DJ for both weddings. Sean's work is flawless. He worked closely with both my children on the music they wanted (specific songs and genre) and was completely prepared for the wedding. In both weddings, he setup music for three locations (ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception). Sean perfectly setup special microphones for the pastors and for singers. After the ceremony and the cocktail hour, Sean was fully ready for the reception. He was an excellent master of ceremonies running the entire reception with our wedding coordinator while playing the perfect mix of music for dinner and then dancing. His work in the dancing part was especially exceptional. He played a mix of oldies and current music with perfect transitions and wonderful timing. He was able to take requests as well as follow the original plan offering a mix of songs that encouraged individual dancing, group dancing, and line dancing. Sean also did a perfect job mixing special music together for the mother/son and father/daughter dances. Sean managed the atmosphere of the reception by setting up lights after pictures were taken and most of the day of events were finished. We highly recommend Sean and Altered Weddings and will not hesitate to use them again! read more

I am completely disappointed. I've heard such wonderful things about Altared Weddings and Christian. Seriously, I had no worries about music on my big day after having a phone consultation with Christian. He assured me that we'd keep the party going and the only 2 requests I had was that 1) please not a lot of country music and 2) keep everyone dancing. Let me tell you, both of my requests, which I paid a lot of money for, were not met. Alongside of that, he didn't announce big events (cake cutting, our exit, s'mores bar....). I am extremely disappointed. I don't understand what all the hype is about these people. Also, Ryan forgot to invoice us about an additional $650 outstanding balance and did not call to notify me (the bride) until the morning of the rehearsal. Out of all my vendors Altared Weddings was one I'd for sure stay away from... It seems like now their reputation is high from working hard in previous years that they now are coasting and not putting in the work. read more
