Altar Bridal Review I had the absolute pleasure of shopping at Altar Bridal for my very first wedding dress shopping experience. Nancy was a kind, thoughtful, and incredibly knowledgable consultant who made me feel so comfortable and beautiful! She listened to what I wanted and made sure to show me plenty of dresses that fit that vision, but she also showed me some gorgeous dresses that were outside of my comfort zone. She explained all of her choices, why she picked them and how she thought they fit my vision or would make me feel and walked me through the details on each one. I knew I wanted to try a little of everything since I had never tried any sort of gowns on before and she delivered! I was able to see myself in a variety of silhouettes and styles, which really helped me narrow it down to the dress of my dreams. It's also worth noting that she was extremely respectful of my budget, which is something I was nervous about with dress shopping in general. I left the appointment feeling confident, beautiful, and so happy. I felt like Nancy was committed to finding me the dress of my dreams, regardless of where I ended up finding it. She was genuinely happy to hear about my second appointment at a different store and told me I'd have a great time. She also let me know that if I ended up wanting to move forward with a dress that I'd tried at Altar, all I would need to do is call and let them know. I never once felt pressured to buy anything from there, which was something I was also worried about with dress shopping in general. Ultimately, my second experience paled in comparison to the one at Altar. At the end of both appointments I knew that a dress I had picked out at Altar was the one for me (coincidentally, it was the very first dress Nancy had me try on, which I think speaks to how well she understood what I was dreaming of!). I called and talked to Sarah, who was also extremely kind and helpful, and told me the dress was mine! I'm a woman who sometimes knows what she wants and sometimes doesn't. I NEEDED a designer dress that only Altar Bridal carried that didn't require me to fly out of state to. I booked an online appointment to drive to KC to try on a dress. I was contacted within the next day for confirmation of my dates, time, budget...etc. A 4 hour drive from St. Louis later, and I was ecstatic to say the least. Altar Bridal is a small boutique shop located in a outdoor shopping area. When you come in, you're immediately greeted with friendly faces. Sara took care of me and helped me get into several dresses before I slipped into THE dress. We toasted with champagne and I left a happy woman. In retrospect, I must say it went by too fast. I had the most wonderful experience here. I went here first of 4 popular places in KC for bridal gowns. The boutique is owned by a mother and daughter (Nancy and Sara) and they're extremely attentive and savvy. They listened to what I was interested in and picked out options perfectly suited to what I was looking for. They were easily the most pleasant, friendly, and fun of all the consultants I'd met with all day. I also didn't feel rushed AT ALL. Needless to say I found my dress here but it was the first of my three appointments that day. They weren't in the least bit pushy that I didn't walk out with a dress but were super flexible right around closing time to let me come back and purchase that day! The store is also in a super cute area and the layout is perfect. Basically... HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND. You will not regret it!! read more

We had the BEST experience at Altar! The store is very beautiful and the dressing room is spacious and private with comfortable seating and good lighting. They had sample dresses in many various sizes which was nice for a change! The selection of stresses was diverse and all were extremely beautiful and in good condition. After going to two other popular places in the KC area, we had our appointment here with Gail on a Friday afternoon. She was hands-down the best consultant we experienced throughout our search. She was warm, welcoming, and extremely knowledgeable. She pulled perfect dresses based on what my sister wanted and even pulled a few surprises that were unique and stunning. She knew what styles would be most flattering but also knew what styles to try just for some variety and fun. She made positive comments throughout the appointment about my sister's appearance and really made sure she felt confident and beautiful. When my sister picked her dress, they popped a bottle of champagne for us and gave us the cork with a bow on it as a keepsake! The manager Sarah was SO kind and thoroughly explained all the details of purchasing the dress. Both she and Gail seemed genuinely excited for my sister and showered her with genuine compliments. I will definitely continue to rave about and recommend Altar to all of my friends and family. It was the best experience we could have asked for, and my sister will look stunning on her big day! This was the most wonderful wedding dress shopping experience ever! I was not the bride, but the MOH tagging along. Nancy made sure the bride got what she wanted for her wedding day. She truly listened to what the she wanted and never forced a dress on her. It helped build a rapport and the bride found a dress that she truly loved! We had such a fun time! From the moment I walked in Altar - I knew I was going to find "the one". I had a previous experience dress shopping at another store that morning, which I thought had went fine, but my experience at Altar exceeded every expectation I had. The store itself is extremely well designed and filled with the top brands and today's bridal fashions. It is a small boutique store - which is a pro not a con! The dressing rooms are large and comfortable for you and your "bride tribe" to hang out in. Every sales associate was friendly, outgoing, positive and went out of their way to make you feel comfortable. I worked directly with Meredith and I was so impressed with her professionalism, expert advice and overall warm and welcoming personality. Upon scheduling my appointment, the consultant asked me questions to get a feel about the style, fabric, pricing and other details in choosing a wedding dress, she pulled some that was in my price range. After trying on the first dress, she told me pictures were not allowed...I was a little upset since I have tried on so many dresses and all of them were starting to look and feel the same and wanted to see what they looked like when I returned home. After being dissatisfied with the no picture policy, I decided to look through the racks for other selections and the consultant, who happens to be the owner, made a snooty comment saying they were way out of my price range. I asked to try some of the more expensive dresses to see if I would like them, her response was no because she didn't want to waste her time and didn't think I could afford it. How insulting!!!! I ended up spending more on my gown somewhere else but I knew the bridal boutique I bought from is very genuine and their customer service is phenomenal. If you want to be insulted, definitely go here!!!! read more

The store and gowns are lovely! Dede knew exactly what kinds of dresses I was going for and was able to accommodate my price range. They have beautiful and unique bridal accessories, as well. Honestly shocked at how many pleasant experiences people had here given our terrible experience. The owner was horribly rude to us, and overall we just felt very uncomfortable. When we walked in she was kind to start off and then it immediately took a turn. When trying on dresses we were asking questions about the dresses or stating concerns and she was quick to dismiss us. She interrupted us multiple times and didn't listen to what we wanted. There were multiple times that our bride was trying to tell us how she felt about a dress and she would interrupt her and say "let's change!!" Without giving her the chance to actually process. There worst part was when we asked her what the name was of a dress that we really liked, because we wanted to be able to look at the pictures online when we got home. She very harshly said "why" and then said "I'll show you on my phone." (I now understand that she didn't want to show us because she didn't want us to buy it online- totally get that. But that genuinely was not our intention, we just wanted to look at pictures.) She could have explained why she didn't want to show us or tell us and we would have understood. Instead she decided to be so so so incredibly rude to us and then continue to be short and honestly mean to us the rest of the time. It was so so disappointing. Especially considering this is supposed to be such a fun experience! We left feeling dejected and uncomfortable. It was such a bummer. We ended up going somewhere else we LOVED and we're actually treated with respect. I wouldn't recommend anyone go here. Truly. read more

I hate the words "off beat bride" or "non traditional" but that is exactly how I would describe myself. I went through so many ideas of what I wanted to wear for my small beach wedding from a short dress, to pink, to a very specific designer and that is how I landed at Altar. They were the ONLY salon in the midwest area to carry Sarah Seven, who I had found on instagram and loved the romantic, boho vibe of her designs. The staff at Altar was amazing. The second I walked in they had pulled the Sarah Sevens for me but I still walked around the store and say this ombre, petal Theia gown that I fell in love with. It was the first dress I tried on and I was hooked. Because of finance and family drama (every wedding, duh) there was a delay from when I tried it on (Sept 2013) to when I actually purchased (February 2014). They staff was good with follow up but NEVER pushy. I just got married and the dress was a show stopper. I can't thank Dede and the staff enough! read more

Save yourself the time and effort of making multiple appointments all over town, and go directly to ALTAR BRIDAL! You can not go wrong with the personal treatment that they give you the minute you walk in the door. As a bride, you go into wedding dress shopping with cautious optimism (or at least I did). This is the most important day of shopping you will ever do, and with high hopes you want to find the most perfect dress... the one you've been dreaming of wearing since you put your dress-up clothes away the final time in 1st grade. The most comforting part was the listening that happened before dresses were even seen. Dede and her staff first and foremost want to know what is important to YOU. What do you look for, dream of in your wedding gown? And, maybe more importantly, what do you dislike? They're also pretty good at knowing what might fit you well... :) (this is not their first rodeo...) Once we had developed a good understanding of the style and look I was hoping for, they went to work. I know I was one of the lucky one's who find their dress on the first day of looking, and only put on 6 total. But, I honestly think it was because they didn't waste my time making me try every dress in the store, and listened to my style, the style of my wedding, and my budget. Also, although my dress was custom ordered/made, I knew there would be alterations involved once it was here. The alterations were done by Janet at Fine Stitch, who was amazing! She paid the best attention to detail, and made it fit absolutely perfect (and as comfortable as a strapless dress could be..)! Dede and Janet work together, so you don't have to fret who's going to be stitching on your dress after you've grown or shrunk in certain places :) Dede and her staff are always smiling the minute you walk in the door, and willing to find you exactly what you are dreaming of! I have nothing but happy memories of working with Altar Bridal's services, products, and of course my gown and accessories. My wedding was a picture perfect day, and I could not be more thankful that I was confident in my dress and had such great service at Altar Bridal. PS... The accessories are fabulous as well! Had a very relaxed and fun experience at Altar Bridal with my daughter and her bridal party. She tried on a number of dresses and also skirts that could be matched with different tops. This was the first place we went and although my daughter found a skirt, top and beaded belt that she liked we decided to keep looking. I could not have asked for a better experience finding my wedding gown! Altar Bridal has a gorgeous selection of gowns and their staff are knowledgeable and friendly. The highlight of my experience with Altar was their owner, Dede. She made me feel like the most beautiful bride-to-be she'd ever seen when I first visited her store. I had certain details I was looking for - lace, keyhole back, not strapless. Dede didn't even miss a beat - she said, 'I have the perfect dress for you, but let's try on a few others first, just to be sure.' I tried on a few, that were beautiful but just not 'the one', before finally trying on the Augusta Jones that she had in mind. It was everything I was looking for and more! She knew my vision down to the smallest details. When I went in the week of my wedding to pick up my gown, the excitement she showed me was like that I'd expect from an old friend! She is a beautiful person inside and out. Altar was easy to work with every step of the way, helping me make some custom alterations to the gown and then referring me to a top notch tailor for my final fittings. She picked out amazing dresses. Someone commented that they don't let you take pictures but I certainly did, I don't know if it was against the rules?
