I recently brought in my Stehl chain saw after it stopped working. Tang who has helped me in the past quickly inspected it and determined a chock clip had worked itself loose. In ten minutes Tang fixed the chainsaw and without charge! I then asked about a chain sharpener. He told me about the Stehl brand but also the no name one which was less expensive. Tang didn't try upselling me. He once again saved me money! Alta Saw and Tang are honest and trustworthy! I highly recommend them both for your chainsaw and small engine repairs! read more

I don't know what the negative reviews are about - this place is great. I went in looking for a Stihl chainsaw not knowing much about the models, but I wanted something durable that would last (which is why I skipped the box stores). Anyway, the gentleman working the counter that afternoon walked me through three different models in the size I was looking for in great detail, and recommended the MS250 since I didn't really need the features of the more expensive models. Most importantly, though, was what they did next. The mechanic in the back came out, filled up the chainsaw with fuel and chain oil, and CAREFULLY walked me through the start-up process. I am not new to 2 stroke engines - I have rebuilt two of them in the past - but I never would have guessed how Stihl designed the throttle lock mechanism to work with the choke; once he showed me, it all made sense. I didn't ask for the walkthru - they saw that I was new to Stihl and knew I would need help. They also covered the break-in (the fuel mix they added was a bit heavier on the oil) the sharpening (they sell the tool there so you can do it yourself) and the warranty (ask them about getting two years instead of just one). Anyway, point is: They didn't just hand me something in a box. This was a very personalized sale, and they were incredibly friendly. These aren't toys! They aren't made for amateurs! The help they provided was not just a convenience, it was necessary. I will definitely be going back. read more

They have had my concrete saw for over a year cant fix it, worst customer service, I asked for my saw and they looked at me and said they cant fix it, i talked to corporate there mechanic never asked for help, and when i ask for saw back they said they put too many parts on it, but couldn't fix it and just looked at me. theses guys suck. i cant get saw back, i have talked to corporate office 3 times, talked with area manager was promised they were going to tray new parts, I have not herd from them, It would be a mistake to due business with alta saw and mower, and i will never own another Stihl piece of garbage again. read more

Horrible customer service! I have a brand new DR trimmer that was shipped with damage (Alta is an authorized DR dealer and service shop). DR made arrangements with Tim at Alta to have it repaired but when I arrived to drop it off yesterday they told me that it'll take 8 weeks due to a backlog of scheduled repairs. In NorCal we had a ton of snow and rain; if I owned Alta I would have anticipated the increase in business in spring due to heavy weed growth and would have hired more repair technicians. I guess planning ahead isn't part of Alta's business plan. I decided against Alta and when I picked it up this morning to ship it back to DR in Vermont, I found it'd been left out in the rain overnight (nice job, Alta!) AND they'd ripped the brand new foam grip on the handle. I immediately pointed this out to the counter person who could only muster a "OK...." Whatever happend to quality customer service, Alta?! You lost my patronage for life. read more

Brought in my weed-eater to have a new trigger put in, and they bring it out "fixed". No one started it for me to make sure it ran. I come outside the store to start it and make sure it runs and the trigger is still broken. Was charged for labor and part of that $40 fee is a "Clean and Teated Unit" category. Don't know how they tested the unit when the trigger was still broken. So in the end they want me to pay a fee for labor when the unit wasn't fixed. It wasn't until I was leaving and told them to fix the cable and call me when it was done, one of the workers came out and told me he can fix the cable. Bad experience with them, but at least they fixed it. The owners who were at the counter did not help at all. Almost wasted my time driving out there to pick up a broken unit. read more

Mom and Pop were great when buying Stihl blower but after warranty repair needed done the mom and pop shop fell apart . after close to a month in there I lost patience with excuse after excuse but delivery day finally came. with mom and pop fazing themselves out of all morning hours leaving hot head son in charge, this business is doomed. not even test starting his repair job they told me to take the blower with profanity and border line assault, the son threw my blower at me and tried to engage in an physical altercation. Mom and pop should get a new mechanic, a competent manager and save their thirty year investment. read more

I have worked as a local landscaper for years. When people have asked me where to go to get equipment, I have told them to check out Alta Saw, in Auburn, because I had heard their equipment was high quality. I went in there today for the first time, and they do have a decent selection of nice equipment. Unfortunately, their customer service is poor. In the middle of my sale, which I was looking to spend hundreds of dollars, the female who works there interrupted my conversation with the male salesmen, without saying excuse me, so she could have the salesman help another customer. The salesmen then directed all of his attention to the other customer, and they all turned their backs to me. I felt unimportant and undervalued. Clearly they are doing well enough for themselves that they don't need my business, so I will make sure to take all my future business, including business referrals, elsewhere. read more

I have, admittedly minor experience with these folks. However based upon that experience I have found them to be extremely expensive and tremendously rude to the customer. I walked in there and spend over $200 the other day on chains no less and didn't even get a thank you. They make you feel like you were bothering them when you walk in the door. We have had our saw blades sharpened here on numerous occasions. Justin has always done a great job. And they are very reasonable. Anytime we had questions or concerns about our blades or even our saws for that matter the owners have always been great answering them. I would recommend them too anyone. This was by far the worst service I have had. I am a firm believer in supporting small local business but I wouldn't refer Alta Saw to my worst enemy. They told me my lawnmower was not worth fixing and that parts were broken on it. Which this diagnosis took them three weeks to tell me and I had to call them. The front counter gal was almost annoyed that I was calling them for an update and then asked for a $35 deposit which wasn't taken at the time of drop off or discussed when I dropped it off. They quoted me around $125 for a tune-up. I immediately took my lawn mower to another local shop and he had it running within 5 minutes. He confirmed that none of those parts where broken that Alta Saw reported in there diagnosis but pieces were missing such as bolts, air filter and the cable was not put back on. Alta Saw gave a bad diagnosis and gave me back my lawnmower with missing pieces...and charged me for it!! When I called to speak to a manger he didn't care nor was apologetic. I said it wasn't so much about the $35 more importantly about the bad diagnosis and bad customer service...He told me to go to Sierra Saw and said he treats his valued customers well. #stihl read more
