I couldn't believe that I have not written a review for Alta Hair. I have been a regular since 2013 and have enjoyed a lot of pampering sessions in this salon. This is a mother daughter tandem salon. Silva, the mother , does the hair. I have noticed that she cuts and styles according to the growth of the hair. This way, the hair stays beautiful and manageable . Very easy and low maintenance. For working girls, I think that is one less trouble to deal with. Karmen, the daughter , does my face face and brows. She does threading without so much pain. Very light handed. She can turn back to life a dead brow workmanship. I know! It took her two years to cultivate back to life my murdered brows . I also like the quiet place and the calm personality of these two ladies. They are just so warm and welcoming. Carmen did so well with my eyebrows! Not only do they grow in different directions with odd patches, but the last threader I went to left them unnaturally thin and with different arches. I did my best to grow them out, but it got to a point where my sister would regularly comment, "so you still haven't found a new eyebrow threader, have you?" Well I finally have! Alta is conveniently located, has private parking, is competitively priced, and I didn't have to wait at all. They're also open later than most other salons (until 8pm), which is great for my busy schedule. Carmen worked quickly and purposefully, and the end result looked great! No need to hide them anymore :-) I walked out of Alta with renewed confidence, finally able to breathe peacefully because I've found a reliable threader near me. read more

Been coming here for a while, but only if I'm in the area. Silva really takes pride in making sure your haircut compliments your face. She is patient and friendly with her customers. She's very personable at the same time, professional. It had been over six months since my last visit, and she hasn't changed one bit. She's as sweet as ever and recognizes all her customers and their family. She takes pride in her shop and keeps it very clean. The salon is located just across from Whole Foods. There's a small parking lot out back that is very convenient and accessible to the entrance. There's also plenty of two hour street parking for free. read more

I was a walk-in. Never been to this place before. The woman (Karmen) who cut my hair was extremely pleasant and I left the salon pretty happy initially. After I got home and took a shower, I realized the two sides were uneven despite the intentional off-center side part. One side was flipping outwards regardless what I did. I don't know what kind of blow dry magic she performed on me when I was at the salon, but I certainly don't have the time to get my hair professionally blow dried daily to cover up her uneven, sloppy layering work. Pictures show the best I can manage at home and I can't go to work like this.... Either this person does not know how to cut straight Asian hair, or thinks that blow dry can cover up all the unevenness. I would not go back to let her correct it. Every business have their own price if you have problem with their pricing call them & ask for price before you walk there. Hi everyone! The way my mom was treated here by the lady doing hair was gross!!!! I can't even describe how broken I was when my mom came home crying. The hairstyle was so bad that if my mom did it on her own would be way far better. People can make mistakes, but what she had done to my mom after being asked to make it look better is unfair !! If I am paying I expect to be satisfied ! Literally no respect and care I am speechless !!! In any case, a very important day of my mom's life is ruined just because of this salon. I finally found the best hairstylist! Silva is incredible. I came in with a bad color and cut, she took one look at me and said "I will give you style." And that she did. She knew immediately the previous color was all wrong, and knew exactly what to do. My cut is perfect. It looks good straight, curled or wavy. Silva did so great I brought my kids back, twice now, they too are happy. Today I went back and Silva added highlights and lowlights. I am so pleased with the results. Silva is impressive. Let me start by saying that I'm a low-key, low maintenance girl. That said, I think I've found my favorite place to get my eyebrows done. You can always tell when someone has pride in their work vs just in it for your money. Carmen has definite pride in what she does and with good reason. She noticed things about my eyebrows that no one had before (one is shorter than the other; my eyebrows are actually curly to go with my curly hair). And the time she took to shape, thread, and clean one eyebrow was equal to the time spent on both at the previous place I went to. I'll definitely be back. :) read more

Never going back again! When I visited there for the first time to have my facial & my eyebrows done she charged me $18 but when I visited for my second time the other day she said the price is $25. I said I thought your price was 20 bucks just like last time, she lied to me saying "that's impossible, that's not true, I never charged anyone less than $25 ever". My problem is not the extra $5 or more, what bothered me is that she lied and also put me (a customer) into a position of a liar. So now I know how they work: they give new customers the lowest price on their first visit to have them coming back but once the customer is back they lie that they never had such a price! Today was my first time at this salon, and boy, did I get a great first impression! Silva greeted me as soon as I came in, and even offered me some of her snack :) She's very sweet, and set to work on me right away. Granted, there was only one other customer at the time (I came in 2 hours after they opened on New Year's Eve day), so my experience might be different from others, but so far I am loving this salon. Their location is very clean and they sell quite a few different products, but Silva didn't try to push anything on me, which I appreciate. I also liked that Silva was chatty, but didn't talk my ear off, and that she described to me what she was doing with my hair at each major part of the process. They offer a lot of services (but they don't have a service menu, I asked): cut, blowout, color (including balayage), brows, lash extensions, etc. I definitely want to come back once my hair is a little longer to get balayage highlights! Overall, based on my initial experience, I would definitely recommend this place. There's plenty of parking in the back, so don't think that you have to park on the street. I wanted to say that I continue to go here for threading in addition, to my boys who get their hair cut here. I tried 5-6 "kid" places and every single time it's been kicking and screaming. AND then, I finally discovered Silva. Not only do my boys not kick and scream, they ASK to get their hair cut. Silva has unbelievably good energy - that's the only way I can put it. I made an appointment for two people at 11 o'clock. There was one person there already so we waited until 12 patiently. She started to do my hair and two other people walked in and she left my hair and went to go help the other two and started working on their haircut. My friend was there left waiting. We made an appointment at 11! Shouldn't we be helped first! The other two people were walk ins! Also, I don't speak her language and while she helped the other two, I knew she was talking about me with them because they kept staring at me. When she came back to work on my hair, she kept pulling on it, kept nodding her head and walking away with a hair brush stuck in my head. Extremely unprofessional, unorganized and rude. Oh Sylvia, my blessing in disguise! I stopped by for a hair cut because I was driving around looking for some place affordable and quick. I read the reviews and decided to check it out myself. I was greeted (not warmly at first) and taken care of immediately since I was the only client present. Sylvia looked at my thick, dry and full hair; she already knew what to do. I asked for layers and blow dry style. I really wish I took a picture because I couldn't believe how beautiful my hair was. Even after I left the salon, I got nothing but compliments and heads turning! I felt so cute with my new hair do. She REALLY executed the style in her head. I told her she had a new client for sure! With wash, cut and style, it came out to 60! I tipped her well because she truly impressed me. I wasn't in there for longer than 30 minutes. I am mom of two and I work 2 jobs and I live in Santa Clarita but work in Glendale. I never have time for myself or do anything for myself. On Saturday, it just happened that both my kids were in bible study and decided to call Alta to see if they could cut my hair. I told them that i can come right away. I walked in. The lady remembered me from back in June when again called last minute. She sat me down and I thanked her for taking me in last minute again. I also told her that I needed to color my hair but didn't know when I'd come back. She told me that if I had the time she'd color my hair too and get me out within an hour. She was busy too but she knew that I very rarely get that chance to be alone so she happily colored my hair and cut it. I can't tel you how happy I was that I got that out of the way. I can't thank Alta enough that they took me in last minute during their busiest time. I would totally recommend going to them. They also do waxing too. Karmen does a great job with the threading. I've had threading done by a few others in the past and it hurt tremendously. Karmen's skill and technique is gentler, pain free, and most of all very effective. You can't help but to be satisfied. The job, consistently, looks great, every time. Getting my eyebrows cleaned up is a newer concept for me who, usually never cares about these kind of things especially as a guy but, I'm in the habit now. Thank you Karmen! It looked horrible I took it all down when I got home and replicated the look from the picture all by myself. Curls came out the next day. They use cheap products. I came in to Alta with a seemingly irreparable dye job. I had literally just come from another salon and my hair looked like it had just been soaked in bleach. I walked in without an appointment, 30 minutes before close, and Sylvia still took me in with no problem. 45 minutes later, I had a completely new head of hair, that I am now in love with. Absolutely horrible! Don't waste your time or money coming here. The women working here are aggressive and yelled at someone who mistakenly walked through the salon while I'm in the chair. A full on confrontation it just gave me a huge sense of their lack of professionalism and how to handle a situation that wasn't that big of a deal. Mind you i was the only one in the salon. I got my hair cut twice by the owner of this place, and it was my best haircut ever. I love short hair, but my head is deformed, and she found just the right balance. The price is two times lower then what I've been charged in another places. She does accept walk-ins, but you'll have to wait for a while if you don't have an appointment. $15 a haircut is as good as it gets. I've been getting my hair cut and styled by Silvia for almost 10 years and I'm never disappointed with what I leave the salon with. Many times I can show her a couple pictures on a magazine to show her what I want and she'll make it happen. For the past few years I would just describe to her how I want my hair styled and layered and she would do it and also suggest how it will look better. Thanks to her, I've always gotten compliments about my hair throughout the years and have also won best hair during my high school years.
