Quick, friendly service!! I lost my car key fob and didn't' want to pay the dealer's CRAZY prices…read moreto replace it, and Bakers was recommended to me by many locals. I put in an order for a new fob ($50.00 deposit since my make/model was not in stock) and crossed my fingers that I wouldn't lose the one remaining one I had while I waited. Not only did I manage to NOT lose the one fob I had left, I (of course...) found the missing one soon after the order was placed... Well, I had a choice-- let the $50.00 non-refundable deposit float off into the sunset, or go ahead and bite the bullet and get the $285.00 (-$50.00 deposit) fob anyway, to have as a second spare. Debated for a minute or twelve and decided to go ahead and still get the extra fob. SUPER quick, friendly service, and the new spare works like a charm! Great local option, in a good, convenient spot downtown, they're really VERY efficient at what they do. Told me 1/2 hr. and they were done in 15-20 minutes. WISH they had later walk-in hours than 4:30 on weekdays, but they do have emergency 24-7 service from their other locations. I'd use them again should the need arise (hopefully NOT!!) and definitely recommend their services here in Springfield (and the other areas they serve...).

We had no interest in modernizing our current set up, so that eliminated the big box retailers. We were hesitant to pay for a locksmith right out of the gate but needed a solution quickly. An internet search reminded me of Gem City Key Shop, which I had seen many times while downtown. I hoped that a well established shop located in the same city as our old home would know best how to help. My husband and I headed in and were greeted by a lovely, helpful gentleman. I showed him the pictures of our lock and he immediately diagnosed the issue. He pulled a similar style lock from the back and proceeded to explain to my husband exactly how to fix it and what pitfalls to beware of in his attempt. He told my husband to bring the innards into the store if there was an issue. I was delighted! In that moment, he secured our future business. He offered the best solution for our problem without trying to sell us a thing! My husband went home and upon removal of the lock saw the very issue, along with a couple of other things likely caused by age/wear and tear. He returned to the shop and they fixed things right up. Re-keyed the lock and made keys for us at an insanely cheap price. The key making was a real treat since over the years we have only been able to find one other business able to make keys for a lock as old as ours. TLDR version-We had a big problem, Gem City Key Shop had a simple, economic solution and stellar customer service.
