The hype on social media for Al's has been reaaal. I've been getting ads for them for a long time, and then started seeing a ton of Yelpers post photos/stories/etc for Al's, but wanted to wait until the lines died down... We finally got the chance to try them before Christmas shopping on a random weeknight and I'm sooo glad we did! We got lucky and there were only a few cars ahead of us. It was a little bit longer of a wait than a typical fast food spot, but the staff was nice and we weren't in a rush so it was fine. We got the combo meal with two sandwiches and fries, and then ordered mac n cheese on the side. I got a level 2 on heat and my boyfriend got a level 3. The level 2 was very mild (almost no heat) and the level 3 took it up a notch. That's definitely where I'll order from now on - has a kick but isn't painful to eat. It goes all the way up to a level 6, which I'll leave for the experts. The sauce they put on the coleslaw is delicious and we were eating the pieces that fell out of the sandwich. The chicken itself? FANTASTIC. Super crispy, moist (sorry, ew), and full of flavor. I do wish the pieces of chicken they used on the sandwich were a little bigger (they're tenders) in terms of width, but they're super thiccc so that makes up for it. The loaded fries also had a good amount of seasoning and flavor to it the chicken was not dry at all. But most of all it's HALAL! it's one of the few places that has a full halal menu so I appreciate it as someone who eats halal meat. So I came here on a Saturday evening and saw both the inside and drive through weren't too bad and decided to finally try. I swung by Al's for lunch and on this particular day they were super short staffed and running about a 20-30 min wait after you place your order. I've tried Al's Hot Chicken 3 times, and the visits have been so inconsistent that I can't give it more than 3 stars. I waited until the hype died down to try it, so the wait time was not a factor in my review. (I waited probably close to 20 minutes to get my food from the time of each order.) Finally got to see what this hype was about. I didn't have to wait at all. They welcome you with old school jams from the kitchen and overall a good vibe. If I remember, I think this used to be a Wendy's. The menu is simple and they're accommodating with the sauce/heat flavors for the two sandwiches. That said, it's the best I've ever had in Washington and seriously better than the obscenely overrated Sister's and Brothers. I love hot food, but let me be clear I ordered a level "hot," which was the 3rd hotness from the top and it certainly was hot so if your going to taste the food I suggest you order a medium level. However, it makes little difference because on the sandwich, it's served with Cole slaw and pickles, which really offsets the heat and tastes great. If the heat does get to be too much, just eat the piece of bread. The fries, though, were delicious as well as their sauce. You can tell they take pride in their food. I came here on opening night and waited 4 hours via drivethrough to order my food. I wouldn't wait that long again but I wasn't disappointed in the food when I got it. The chicken was good. I'd give it 4 stars. It was fresh, hot and prepared well. The mac+ cheese taste like stouffer's and is expensive ($5 for a small container). If it was homemade I wouldn't have a problem with the price but it's not. The sandwiches are Chicken tenders instead of a whole breast which I didn't love and the fries were okay , just to much season for me, my husband likes them. The waffle was DELICIOUS!! When this first opened up it was way better then it is now. The employees don't seem like they don't like there job and there sense of awareness is not great. It took over 25 min to get a couple chicken sandwiches and a shake since they did not serve any other beverages at that time. How as a restaurant do you run out of CO for you soda fountain. The food was sub par and was such a small portion that I had at least 4 bites of just bread. They gave a side of coleslaw that was just one fork full for two sandwiches on the side in a pre made cup with pickles so everything tasted like the pickles.
