Kootenay Centre Cinemas - The Cinder Block

Does it matter that Kootenay Centre Cinemas is an unattractive cinder block that looks as though it…read morewas constructed in one day? And does it matter that Castlegar sprawls, making the theatre difficult to walk to from the city centre? And tell me this, does it really matter that the concession is run by an inept, pimply fifteen-year-old, and that many of the signs are hand-written? The answer to all of these questions, my friends, is no. This is one of the few movie theatres in south-eastern British Columbia to show blockbuster films and serve hot, greasy popcorn. They have five small screens in this bunker of a movie house, and switch-up the films every week...just like a 'real' theatre. While the chairs may not be ergonomically correct, and the business as a whole may seem like a joke when compared to the AMC or Cinemark chains, it truly is a welcoming beacon of quality entertainment amidst the snowy hills and hillbilly towns of the Kootenays. Warm me with the radiance of mindless amusement and sustain me with the production of buttery popcorn, oh Kootenay Centre Cinemas!

They could use a better sound system and more comfortable chairs considering in paying a real movie theatre price for a small theatre. If your movie is in theatre 4 or 5 you may aswell wait until it comes out on DVD and just watch it on a big screen at home. The service is up and down but that's to expect from the typical movie theatre high schooler. It's a little pricey for the size and comfort but if your in town and want to see a movie, you don't really have a choice..

At first I thought it was weird buying tickets at concessions, but I thought it was because of the snow outside. Reading other reviews, I see it's common practice. My experience was particularly interesting because I apparently forgot my wallet. I saw a customer service desk and went to enquire if they accepted Apple/Android pay as I did have my phone and didn't want to find out after waiting in the line. No such luck. But the customer service lady was super nice and very patient while she tried to help me purchase tickets online where she was sure the Fandango website took ApplePay. Unfortunately both the T-Mobile and WiFi reception were so horrible that we could not get very far. I finally went over to Starbucks to use their WiFi as they always have a good connection. Only to find out, the website doesn't take ApplePay. Bummer! I gave up hope and went to my car where I finally remembered to use my Tile app to see if my wallet was anywhere in the car. It was, in a hard to find place. The moral of the story is, other than don't forget your wallet, is PLEASE get Apple/Android Pay at your theater. It's super easy to do and very helpful for us wallet forgetters. It's also more secure. 2nd: Please get good WiFi for the lobby area! Sheesh. And even just outside the lobby so we can purchase tickets online. If we have our wallets. But the movie experience was enjoyable at this theater once I got my ticket.
