I have also been scammed by Alex Solorio / Alpine Stove and Fireplace. After doing a lot of what I thought was due diligence, I paid a 50% deposit in May of 2023 for a new 2-sided gas insert as well as a complete remodel of the stone work and mantel, with the understanding that work would begin in September or October prior to the beginning of the winter season. They began the demo work in October as promised, but it was then that I was also told about "supply chain issues" with the actual insert, and I was given a nebulous evasive timeframe for when it would arrive. By January, I was told by Alex that the insert was finally being shipped and that it would arrive in 3-4 weeks. When that date came and went, it then became increasingly difficult to get anyone to return a phone call or answer an email. When a reply would come, I was informed that I was still a priority for finishing the project, especially given how long I had been waiting. But there was never a straight answer about when the insert was coming, or even whether it had been fabricated. Then came the stories about a flood, an injured worker, etc etc, as reasons for why the project was further delayed. When I was finally able to track down the contact info for the insert manufacturer, I was told that Alpine was no longer a dealer for them, they had no record of my insert being ordered, and that not only were there no "supply chain issues" since 2021, but they had my particular model of insert in-stock and if it were ordered it would only take 2 weeks to ship. When I began this journey, I had a working fireplace. Now, I have a large hole in my living room that leaks when it rains and which vents air in and out of my home through the chimney when the wind blows. I then read the article in the June 29th issue of "The Sheet" which reported on how many other people have been victimized by their fraud. I have now contacted the DAs office and filed complaints with the BBB and Contractor's board. (By the way, the contractor's license that is listed on their website is old, from the previous owners. You should check for yourself the status of their license on the contractor's board website.) My money has sadly gone "poof." Don't make the same mistake I did... run away from Alpine Stove and Alex Solorio and find someone else to do your fireplace instead. read more

We were required by the Mammoth Lakes Fire Department to replace our existing wood burning insert. We chose a wood pellet burning insert. Alex and Chris helped us get what we needed. They couldn't have been more helpful. Once the unit was installed, Alex spent considerable time explaining its operation and what to expect from our new insert. I was also scammed by Alpine Stoves. They were very friendly and helpful in 2021 when I initially bought my pellet stove. The stove had many issues and was replace under warranty in January 2023. This stove also did not work, many issues. I was promised by Alex that he would fix stove or bring me a new one this summer. When I started sending emails and leaving voicemails in July they were never returned. At least I have a stove. Now I have to pay out of pocket for another company to come fix my stove. I just hope it's fixable. I hope they find Alex and throw his ass in jail for all the money he has scammed from people! I'm sure he's moved on to someplace else and doing the same thing! read more

I needed my chimney repaired. I had Apline Stove give me a quote. I signed there agreement and gave them a 50% deposit. Now it's six months later and they don't answer the phone and I've left multiple messages with no call back. I think they shut down and took off with my deposit. I really liked Alex when I met him in June 2023, but sad to say that I have also been scammed!! Paid half of our estimate, almost $4500 for a new pellet insert for our condo. I was told it would take about 2 months. Every time we called to check the status, we were told it was delayed, that some people had waited a year, that there was a family emergency, a flood, the phone lines down. Many times we called or stopped by with no return phone call. It has now been over 10 months and I see all these terrible reviews. I called Regency, the maker of the pellet insert we bought, and they stated that Alpine Stove is no longer a dealer with them. The new girl, Laura, in the office, stated she would return our deposit.... it still has not shown up on my credit card. Alex, you need to return our money!!!! I honestly cannot say enough good things about this business and the people operating it: Alex and Chris. They replaced our old wood stove with a zero-clearance pellet insert that we absolutely love. From the moment we contacted them, they were super responsive and they gave us their honest advice on the units which they've seen issues with and which ones were reliable ones. They were super communicative and honest throughout the whole process with respect to any issues found, timelines, etc, no bull****, these are my kinds of people. Once they got to work, they tore apart our old stone wall around the fireplace and did beautiful work on the tiling for the new one, which we really wanted laid in the herringbone pattern. We decided last minute that we wanted to replace the TV and stand and mount it on top of the fireplace and they worked with us on getting the measurements they needed when we weren't able to bring up the TV for them in time to put it up (due to us having an issue with our car). They went above and beyond and stayed up late to finish up the project in time, before we had our guests come and stay with us. I remember looking at the mess of our place the night before the install was supposed to be completed and I could feel the panic and stress bubbling up thinking that it'll never get done. The next morning I woke up and started working while they were doing their own work on the fireplace downstairs, and two hours later I came down and everything was cleaned up and put in place, the condo looked as if nothing had happened there. No trace of the dust, the dirty tarps, the mess, they put everything in place as they'd found it, it was literally like magic and I just couldn't believe my eyes. The crew was just working on the finishing touches then, and Chris made this most beautiful mantel for us. We absolutely love how everything came out and we couldn't be happier with their work. Recently, when we had an issue with not being able to start the fireplace in the middle of the winter, Alex immediately made time to come by and check it out, either first thing in the morning when he saw my email, or after hours after their regular schedule. This part is so important to us, as we have our condo listed for short term rentals, and it impacts our business if the guests we have leave a bad review if they aren't able to stay warm. Because of their tremendous support, this has never happened. We are so lucky and grateful for these guys, their work and dedication to provide us with the best support possible. We purchased a Thelin Echo stove from Apline Stove many years ago for my mothers cabin summer cabin on Forest Service land. This year we had to sell the cabin. Neither the Realtor or the neighbor who had helped open the cabin many times could get the pilot light going. I went down to Alpine and talked to Chris Morrison, the manager, about getting a repair person to look at it. He asked me a few questions and declared that the probable cause was air in the gas pipe because the cabin had been shut off for 7 months. He told me the steps to try. I went back to the cabin and did what he said. Shazam! pilot light on, turned up the thermostat and flame came on. Knowledge is power! These guys know their stuff. Give them a try! I wanted to be in compliance with the Mammoth Lakes wood burning ordinance so I decided to remove the wood burning fireplace from our condo and replace it with an electric inset. Since we do not have gas in the condo, an electric unit was my only option. I contacted Tom from Alpine Stove. He came and looked at the project. He told me what he would recommend that I do. I told him the look that I wanted. He gave me a price and Voila I now have an electric fireplace. This review is not a normal review because it's not about their business directly as we do not live in this area. This review is about humanity. My wife and I are currently on our honeymoon and we came to this area to relax and celebrate. We are not from an area that snows and today a huge snowstorm hit. We tried to go get chains for her small car, got lost, and trapped in the snow. Thankfully Alex, the owner, was doing work nearby and came to the rescue with a couple of his employees. They tried to push us up the hill but my wife's car couldn't handle it. Alex then took my wife to go get chains. When they got back they put them on and talked us through how to do it. We made some progress but one of the chains broke off. They then reattached it with wire they had on hand. They then helped push again while also putting tarps in front for traction. Suffice to say they helped us back to our resort. They spent over 3 hours of their time helping us. I have never come across such caring and hard working people. We purchased a home in March after coming to Mammoth for 30 years. We thought our Lopi Wood Stove needed replaced. We were told by two local competitors that we should purchase a new stove. Tom from Alpine Stove, came out to look at it, pointed out the few bricks that needed replacing, and said he could paint and polish it to look new again including the gold band. Alpine Stove was the best. Tom to my condo at Chamonix and found me a quality gas fireplace from Regency. They are the only authorized dealer in Mammoth. So they were able to give me a $100 rebate. Regency fireplaces has the best warranty in the business. So if you go with someone else it my be a mistake. Alex has been great with follow up and put in a control to lower the fan speed so it is not so loud. read more
